Short sharp episode most notable for the worst pronounciation of a wine of all time!

Congrats on Jets. Glad you are showing us some new Italians. SO many unknown wines from there!

  • Anonymous

Congrats on the Jets, bro. Glad to see you introducing us to new Ital wines too, since there are so many there!

A “creamy cedar juice component?” Cedar juice????? 🙂

    Lord Gary?

Am I a noble member of the Top 10? I do hope so! It is my plan to marry the fair maiden, Lady KMurph. Being a premature and immediate comment poster is part of my strategy to convince her to be my bride!

    Cheers!

In my ‘cellar’, I have 2008 Bolognani Armilo Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti. I enjoyed an earlier vintage but I haven’t tasted this one yet.

QOTD: I want to explore a varietal I haven’t heard of yet.
QOTD: TV show? Hmm. I like several HBO shows. Oh wait got it, I like Modern Family and I like 30 Rock.

  • Ian

I’m poor now, very very poor so I have to take a break from wine drinking and also will be taking a break from exploring new regions. But I can still enjoy your shows gary.

QOTD: Biggest Loser, makes me cry every week

  • Anonymous

Wow, a pretty early show today! (even if short) Okay, you got me with a different variety!
    Sorry, no tv!

  • ALLAN

This is what this show is all about.!

Quick Nerdy Wine Fix. Loved It.!

Qotd: Havn’t had any nerdy ones lately. Will explore Champagne & Burgundy in 2011.
Favourite TV show: hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe Twin Peaks.

Cheers to all my favourite Vayniacs, you too Randall…. 😉

Love the outside of the box Italian shows. I like the one wine shows also, they are quick and to the point. A good for thing for lots of folks nowadays. Gary two words BAJA CALI!!!!!!????? Yeah you know me @pedrothethird ???????? Yeah you do 🙂
QOTD 1 A Nero D’Avola not really too outside the box but fun anyway.
QOTD 2 Lie to Me I’m a poker play and I love body language. Plus I love languages period. Body language is a big part of language that most people don’t consider.
Love your show, love you man. Keep up the great work!!

  • ALLAN

You were talking about formats, as you do so often. My two cents= Keep on mixin’ it all up GV, That’s when I like you the best, when I don’t know what to expect. :oP

Since you have been back from your vacation I have not been able to download episodes to my iPod from Apple podcasts.

    Go Jets!!!

Good show, I’ll have to try a Teroldego, though cedar juice does not sound very appealing. QOTD: Either human target or covert affairs.

  • Thanks Gary! You’ve encouraged us to explore different chiantis (than the regular supermarket stuff), that’s been fun and always looking out for a Primitivo. Best TV Show? Definitely Top Gear on BBC America. Would love-love-love to see you as a guest and race their reasonably priced car around the track!

  • Nice quick show… like these once in a while…

QOTD1: Not too much other than Chianti… need to ‘step out’… 😉

    QOTD2: Big Bang…

  • Fav italian wine had in 2010 was a Brunello di montalcino… Would love to get into super tuscans, can’t get them here in Argentina. Fav TV show is a 1980s English comedy series called “Black Adder”, with Rowan Atkinson and Hugh Laurie.

    Italian Varietal : Refosco
Region to explore: switzerland (if i can find any)
tv: about to start in on the wire (i know im so late..)

QOTD 1: Didn’t drink anything wacky from Italy in 2010, but the white wines have been interesting in the past.

QOTD 2: Favorite current show, Mad Men I think.

  • Still catching up with some of the shows I missed last week (Oldman was great!), so thanks for making this an easy QOTD. I definitely enjoyed discovering Aglianico in 2010, but I also tasted a red from Val d’Aosta that was VERY interesting – smooth but quite complex. Overall, I’ve realized I like what Italian reds can do, and some of the values are outstanding.

The fav TV show question feels as though it’s been recycled. Am I right in saying that it has appeared before?

  • Can we get a campaign going for this?

  • Yeah, creamy cedar juice. You pack the hunk of cedar in your Jack LaLanne Juicer(tm), and don’t skim the top off the resulting mess. Can’t call GV out on it until you’ve done it yourself.

Q’sOTD: None stands out; Spain (specifically Sherry); and probably Big Bang Theory.

I had a good valpolicella wine in 2010 and in 2011 i want to explore more of Italy. I honestly get stuck in Cali, France an Argentina for the most part. When I had the Valpo I liked it, but only drank it the one time. I need to try more from the boot.
Best TV show Funny or Die Presents.

Had a Cannonau from Tenute Dettori which was my first italian grenache….thought it was great.

Probably enjoy Modern Family bc its quick and funny….Seinfeld and Family Guy are still the stand-by rerun shows.

  • This year I have really enjoyed crisp wines made from the Friulano (formerly known as Tokai Friulano) grape. I love how the people of Friuli in northern Italy have made this wine such a part of their everyday and hospitality. The floral bouquet, dry minerality, and flavor of nuts are the characteristics of Friulano that I like. Is this outside the box? Maybe not, but it?s what I?ve been drinking this year from Italy.

For 2011 I?m interested in exploring more cheap but good WHITES from Italy.

#1 – Montepulciano. Would like to explore more Nebbiolo wines.

    #2 – 30 Rock/Modern Family.

  • And my husband and I have become addicted to the show Blue Bloods.

My great varieties from 2010 are Carignano del Sulcis and Nuragus from Sardinia and an excellent Fiano made in South Australia!

  • Anonymous

I forgot a very interesting nebbiolo also from sardinia!

  • Anonymous

Great show…love it when I learn about something new.
QOTD: I live in Australia and we get a fair bit of US TV. Some great, some not so good. At the moment we love Modern Family. As I am writing this however, I have a re run of The A-Team on a pay TV channel…..possibly the worst TV show ever made….in fact it is so bad that I am quite enjoying it.

  • Anonymous

-Need to drink more from Italy in general…especially Nebbiolo.
-SHAMELESS on Showtime is showing some promise.

  • I like the one wine format, but wouldn’t complain about a couple either…

QOTD: Nothing crazy in terms of varietal, but did fall in love with a really oxidized style of sauvignon blanc from Italy.

  • It would have to be Petite Rouge (major part of Torrette) but also Cornalin, Fumin, Mayolet, and Petite Arvine. All these are from the gorgeous varieties from the Vallee d’Aosta region. They are making some really high quality wines up there out of grapes that none of us have probably ever tried before. I like the Pinot noir from that region in general also.

    Reruns: Family Guy

1,000th episode is coming up. Just an idea: Wine Library tv LIVE! That would be a blast.

    Love the Avatar!

  • QOTD 1: Believe it or not: Gavi – out of the ordinary for me – first time tried in 2010

QOTD 2: (The new, out of the ordinary, artisanal) Chile

    QOTD 3: Fringe

Nice taut episode. Very good QPR

  • Anonymous

Good tight show; I dig the one wine format but if you stuck with it for more than a week it would get old. Like many others have said keep mixing it up!

QOTD 1: Nothing too crazy, will have to branch out in 2011!

QOTD 2: Californication. Have recently started getting into Battle star Galactica because multiple people have told me it is a fantastic show, not bad but I have not gotten very far yet.

Nice short episode GV, really dug it.

Liked Veneto a lot in 2010. Want to try to mid-Italian wines- Umbria, Marche, Abruzzi, Basilicata- in 2011.

Love the nerding it up. Does not matter to me if its short or long show as long as it got some info that I do not know already, which this one did. Don’t think that I’ve ever heard of a teroldega before. So thank U for bringing that one to my attention.

QOTD: held my first wine tasting a couple of months ago. Something new me and some girlfriends started up. wine tastings- girls only. Anyway, we tried a “Il Frappato – Arianna Occhipinti” which is made with the grape “Frappato”, which I’ve never tried before. Very nice.

  • Anonymous

Cool and super nerdy, love it!
I’d like to see the “one wine from an obscure region” maybe once a week along with a “head to head blind battle” and the occasional super- cool special guest. Keep the variety and the inspiration flowing.

Didn’t get much of a chance to explore Italian wines last year, so it’s on my list for this year as well as more Riesling. I really want to delve further into the Alto Adige region.

    Love Top Chef.

  • Don Simpson

You are in such a great mood, its awesome!

QOTD1: In 2010 I drank a lot the interesting Italian white varietals (Garganega, Verdicchio, Vernaccia, Vermentino, Falanghina), but not too many Italian reds. In 2010 I also drank a lot of southern Rhone, Loire, Languedoc, and a crap load of sparkling wine (which I will also do in 2011).

QOTD2: In 2011 I would like to drink more Barolo, Barbaresco, and start exploring northern Rhone wines. I also need to give Rose a fair shot.

  • Don Simpson

I forgot QOTD3: Right now its a tie between Top Chef and House.
