89/100

Lines of the day – ‘I call em like I see em and I always will’ and ‘I’m like a hippy from the 70s – I’m addicted to the acid’.

Solid quickfire show

    I’m a little late! email!

QOTD: Absolutely you should land 1000 on the five year anniversary, perfect. And your honesty/integrity in the way you rate is a big part of the appeal of this project. Thanks GV, keep it up.

  • DaveAll

QotD: Feb 21 or 5th anniversary – not sure i buy making it line up to 1000. Just doesn’t matter. if you do 1000th on Feb22nd, then you can say going on 6 years. or 61 months. or how do you want it to sound? Gary is now 44, doing it since he was 24? Gary has now tasted 3400 wines in 1000 episodes? (made this up). It’s all marketing and making a story.
Good show – we make Viognier and Rieslings – love them both for different reasons. Spatlese Rieslings go well with dehydrated apples (or apple pie) while Viognier is good with white chocolate. yum.
Your palate does change when emotions happen. or maybe it’s what you ate during the game that put your palate more acid? alkaline? or maybe it was yesterdays bourbon! ha.

  • DaveAll

I’m 99.83% behind you on that! snicker

  • steve

Cool to hear from the winery! Keep up the good work, Im excited find some of your wines.

  • Anonymous

Agreed! Reading comments was awesome, keep the shout outs coming, gotta love em!!

  • DaveAll

sure. me, too. I’ve watched enough “LIE TO ME” episodes I can tell by your expressions, lip quivers, and Mott’s reflection holding up the score for you to read. snicker.

  • DaveAll

    double like like like this!

  • Anonymous

Love the effort! if you ask enough she is bound to say yes!!

    Hey!
    Glad you posted.
I’m no business guru, put it’s disappointing to me how many producers, especially guests on the show, fail to take advantage of the forum, sometimes even to answer questions. Isn’t this a freebee?
By the way, where in Oregon are you? Did I miss it?

    QOTD: Yeah Gary. do that.

  • Anonymous

As a physicist/engineer, of course all numbers are the same, 1000 has no special significance over 823. But we are all humans, and nothing was more fun than watching the analog odometer ticking over a milestone… Feb 24 is my birthday so do the 1000th show then and dedicate it to me. Haha.

But seriously, good show. I love viogniers. And rieslings. And pinot noir. Dang it I like em all.

  • Anonymous

Loved today’s show and wine selections. Great labels on the Big Table Farm wines.

QOTD: If you can work it into your schedule, it might be nice to have the 5th anniversary coincide with #1000, but that episode will be epic regardless of what day it airs.

  • Anonymous

Not a bad show, too bad the wines did not fair a little better. I am a huge fan of Viognier! I have been digging the whits more than ever recently!!

QOTD: I am all for double headers, weekend shows, quick shows on the week days, whatever it takes to reach that 1000 mark on the 5th anniversary! GO FOR BROKE!

  • Anonymous

1000 on the 5. No question about it. Too bad about the two Pinots, at $45+ they should be killing it. Love the Oregon episodes—keep them coming.

I’m with you…seems that way to me too why not connect? – we are in the Willamette Valley our farm is in the Yamhill Carlton AVA and we buy fruit from this ava and eola hills. We are about 15 min from Ribbon Ridge if that’s an area you are familiar with … we are 1 hour outside Portland…

  • Anonymous

Thanks Steve – wines are available directly from us we ship to 43 states … they may be hard to find otherwise as we aren’t widely distributed due to our wines being such small production most vineyard designates around 100 cases…

Speaking of entitlement, the Rooney family was not particularly popular in Southern Vt (they owned a racetrack there) when I was growing up, and by way of association, neither were the Steelers. Can’t say that my opinion has changed.

QOTD: That’d be cool, but only if it’s not at the expense of your family time.

  • Anonymous

    Go STEELERS!!!!

Yep that;s what happens when you have been to 15 AFC championships and 7 superbowls!!

  • Anonymous

You’ll be much more like a hippy from the 70’s if you continue to mistake fungi for flora… 😉

It was a nice show Gary, you?re steaming back fast! By the way, for all this years giving us so much of your time, knowledge and friendship, we can only be supportive and most grateful. It?s been a long journey GV, and it?s been a lot of fun from the beginning! THANK YOU!

QOTD: Episode 999 and 1000 could coincide with the 5th year anniversary of WLTV, but I think the 3 shows could each be special on their own. So the fans would have 3 nice dates to look forward !!!

Just for the record: I miss Sasha on the show, the brown bags and the Laid Back Couch!!

Mott!! Did we heard you yawn a little bit? KKKKKKK?.

    Big shout,

    Mauricio F. from BRAZIL.

QOTD – Go for the gusto man… 1000th show on the 5th anniversary would be epic. I think the sacrifices necessary to make it happen will pay dividends – big time!

Liked the show today… please continue to tell it like it is… it’s so refreshing. I have a bit of Viognier envy now… huge fan of the grape and tough to find great examples like that one up here.

    GV:

Again… You DID NOT SUCK. Wow. Appreciated the “balls and strikes.” Keep callin’ ’em.
QoTD: Double Up. But, don’t suck.

  • He’s baaaaaaaaack! Way to pull up your bootstraps and move on to a great show. “I feel like Smokey the Bear is up my nose” was a great description though one would guess the pinots would have fared better. Thank you for telling it like it is. We don’t want it any other way.

QOTD: By all means, pump out double-headers and on the weekend if it means getting to 999 on the 5 year anniversary.

    Cheers!

P.S. Yes, the Steeler fans believe they are entitled. Go Pack!

    Great show Gary!

QOTD: It would be cool to blend the 1,000th episode with the five year anniversary.

  • Anonymous

QOTD; I don’t think you should worry about getting the big 1000 in five years, plan something
    special, and roll.
Thanks for doing an OREGON show!

  • Glad you called it like you saw it (with a malaise caveat no less!), I think this biz can get a little too swept in its own hype. Nice work!

1000 should totally be on the anniversary if only to give us more WLTV ;)! Oh, it should also be just like 500: in SF. Come back Gary, we love ya!!

First of all, best Pinot I have ever had is JCB No. 22 Mendocino Ridge 2008. Extremely low production, and only available at their Healdsburg tasting room. INCREDIBLE… there were lots of wild fires in that area that year and you can taste it, unbelievable.

    Ideas for Show 1000

    A) Should review the same wines from the first show
    B) Have Nick Mangold as a guest
    C) Have Robert Parker as a guest
    D) Gary gets wasted

    Everybody vote!

  • Ha, looked like a chanterelle to me and my daughter wouldn’t even believe me!

  • Randall

QOTD: I don’t care WHEN you get to the 1000th episode,
I just want to SEE the “Epic-sode 1000”, baby!!

p.s. I would probably have enjoyed all 4 of these wines more than you did…

  • Randall

btw Clare… an 89 from Vaynerchuk is a really good score. ;P

  • Nice to have the ‘happier’ Gary back…

QOTD: Whatever it takes to get to 1000…

  • Anonymous

    QOTD – a little conflicted

I like the thought of more shows in a shorter period of time but the benefit of not forcing them together is creating a kind of celebratory period. You can have the 5 year anniversary week with a countdown to the 1000th show. Then we get an intense burst of shows building up to the crescendo of the 1000th WLTV.

  • Anonymous

thanks randall – I’m pretty new to ALL of this ; ) – I’ll be very interested to see what he thinks of the other one of our pintos I sent him from the resonance vineyard.. it’s a TOTALLY different wine from the Cattrall Pinot… I also sent him our White Hawk Syrah.. that one will totally throw him : ) he he …

  • Anonymous

Yep, two of ’em. Btw, you’ll regain your intelligence when your daughter turns 20 or so…

  • Randall

I, myself, am not in Any way familiar with these “flora” and “fungi” of which you speak…
p.s. Is my “lying font” activated?
    :D!!

  • Randall

Cool. But where’s the Mott love?

  • Randall

    Ok…
GARY, do some domestic sparklers (Cali, NY, etc… doesn’t matter) to celebrate and give props to the country that does so much to enable people to achieve the heights of success that you have been able to reach.

That’s my sincere vote, PurpleGrillz. And a huge Cheers! to you and yours…
    🙂

GV, I give you major props for coming back strong even if the wines were not quite up to expectations. In 2003, after the Aaron Boone game, I couldn’t work for several days. It shows your commitment.

QOTD: Definitely would love to see you go for 1000 on the 5 year anniversary. Have been watching since episode 126. Thanks for all the awesome shows and keep it up.

  • Anonymous

GV, so glad to see you back in good form. One passion has yielded no reward, but no reason not to reap the rewards of another.

QOTD: Separate them. Why throw one party when you can throw two?

  • Anonymous

Episode 1000 = The entire WLTV team doing the tasting of a MONSTER wine. Crack open one of the super high $$$ wines for this episode for the entire WLTV team to give their review. Then give us a full tour of the operations and conclude with a bloopers reel.

Can you squeeze that all into 12 minutes…LOL

  • Anonymous

Thanks, G. Good timing as the wife and me are planning a trip out to the Oregon wine country this Spring. Too bad the wines all didn’t show. And yes, American Viogner is starting to look quite good, ie: Paso & WA.

QOTD: Whatever you do, please stick to good wine content. That is how the show started and that is how it should progress…IMO.

  • Randall

I love good wines and good beers, but my favorites would have to be Belgian beers and Pinot Noir! I like Oregon and Anderson Valley pinots esp., so the next time I am up there (Salem) from Sacramento, I’ll bring my palate and wallet along for the ride over to your place. I love finding wineries that are new to me, and everything you’ve described sounds good to me.

    p.s. Alredy bookmarked your site…

  • Anonymous

GV, we don’t expect anything less from you than you giving us your honest opinion when it comes to the wines your profiling for us. We have come to expect this from you because that is how you roll and we love you for that.

G, Dude, what’s going on with that Boof hairdoo you got going on there? It’s starting to look like the business end of my dog.

QOTD: Do what comes natural for you. If it is weekends, doubling up, or whatever, we the “Vayner Nation” will be there every step of the way, “March-March-Marching” right alongside on your quest for 1000! BRING IT BABY!

  • Anonymous

Gary, when are you gonna do some non-willamette valley oregon wines?

  • Anonymous

Glad to see you out of your funk. Good episode and appreciate the information.

QOTD – I think it is a good idea to merge the date and the episode’s. Go for it.

  • Anonymous

Good show Gary, I am always interested in Oregon wines, they seem to be coming on strong overall. I think 1000 shows by year 5 would be great! Glad to see you back to form.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: In my humble opinion, or not so humble opinion, I would choose/suggest/encourage/ask that you land numero 1,000 on the 21st. I have no basis to how I came up with this suggestion, only that it seems right.

Have you tried Patricia Green Pinot Noir out of Oregon? That is my all time favorite Pinot.

  • OREGON! The first thing I did when I saw Big Table Farm was call Brian Marcy. It is always exciting to see Oregon wines on WLTV but I worked for Brian while he was making wine at Coelho Winery and have some of his first Syrahs that he made when he moved to Oregon. I am kind of sad to see the scores so low but I really enjoyed the show.

QOTD: Weekend shows would be great

  • Anonymous

    A) Love that idea!
    B) How ’bout K Murph back on?
    C) Wouldn’t THIS be a coup!
    D) DOH!

    Oh, and STUCK THE FEELERS!
