Lines of the day – ‘I call em like I see em and I always will’ and ‘I’m like a hippy from the 70s – I’m addicted to the acid’.

Solid quickfire show

If you can manage to get the 999 or 1000 show on the anniversary, that would be amazing. Was taken to Big Table Farm this past fall and I have to agree, I wasn’t blown away by their wines but they were nice people to meet. Will continue to try their wines. Maybe just wasn’t the best year in Oregon for them but was for almost everyone else.

  • GV…Needed to give big props to the fact that every label is hand-made. Their web-site goes through it a little bit. My kind of place…I love it.

QOTD: Only do a weekend show, if you know, you actually do it on the weekend! 😉

Thanks for the shout outs. Second pronounciation was right on. Farrin rhymes with baron 😉
QOTD: Do the math: 52 weeks a year x 5 days a week = 260 work days per year – 12 Federally mandated holidays = 248 work days – 15 paid vacation days (VERY liberal employer) + 10 paid sick days = 223 hnet work days per year x 5 = 1115 WORK days in 5 years. By any definition, you, my dear friend, are a SLACKER! Of course you should do double duty for a month! At least make it look like you’re trying 😉 We’ll cut you a little slack because you’re doing it for free but, be careful not to take advantage of our kindness 🙂

  • QOTD: more, shorter, guest-free shows to make the magic number of 1000 episodes on the 5th anniversary.

I’m not sure if it’s bad form as the winery to post here but since we are just brian and I not a big fancy winery anyway what the hell … someone tell me if this is bad form please… I just wanted to say thank you so much for tasting our wines on your show! It really means a lot to a small upstart project like ours!!! I thought it was a great review – if a wine is well made and has good balance as long as it flips some skirts and is a good solid wine I’m happy and I think I can speak for my hubs on that one too : ) !! We look forward to you trying out other pinots each are very different from each other! Again a big heartfelt thank you!! and Gary if you every come to OR we’ll make a you a kick ass farm meal at our big table… cheers! Clare – the wife

ps – that was the 2009 vintage for both and a yup a chanterelle mushroom on the label : )

Glad that Ravens fans aren’t the only ppl that think that about the steelers.

Sorry for your loss, I know how you feel.

The damn dirty Jers has Gary all the time. And what the hell is wrong with you Castello? 😉 Last time I checked you were an SF boy. Start campaigning!

  • Anonymous

Glad to see you are out of your slump.

QOTD: Yes, YES, Yes. The more episodes the better.

  • Anonymous

wonder if the 08’s might have faired better?

qotd; who cares it’s just another show

  • Anonymous

Enjoyed the show, but I have to run will comment more later. Way to come back strong on a Tuesday!

  • QOTD: Do it, be all that you can be!

Viognier has really intrigued me lately, ever since I went to Pine Ridge in Napa and had their Viognier I have enjoyed it.

BTW Gary you definitely should make the trip up 17 to the Finger Lakes for an episode, there are dozens of producers who would impress you. Especially the fact that you dig the acid. Plan a trip!

  • NJ Big Chris

    QOTD – Do it…

Good to see your in a better mood today. Where’s the score on the Bourbon by the way?

  • Anonymous

Oh, right Pete, rain on our parade 😉 Where the hell has Kahuna been lately anyway? On his own vlog?

  • Big G, good job and well done!

    QOTD: Yes!

QOTD: If you have the energy and motivation for it, synchronizing the anniversary with the 999th/1000th episode would be pretty darn cool. And I wouldn’t complain about some extra episodes along the way.

I pretty much completely hate sports. No one I know even bothers to talk about football around me because I’m totally ignorant and apathetic. And yet, I found myself wondering who had won the game on Sunday… just because of you. Sorry about the need to turn to bourbon.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, how’s that working for ya Jeremy? 🙂

  • NJ Big Chris

One size DOES NOT fit all… 3X please.

  • QOTD: I would love to see more shows, any format and even on the weekends. Go for it.
Whatever you do I will support it. I am excited for the five year anniversary.

I try not to question you (GV) but that label looked a lot like a Chanterelle mushroom, not a flower. I am also looking forward to trying some of the 08 vintage from Oregon after the write up in the NY times by Asimov.

Happy to you see rebound from a rough loss dude.

I’m sorry for you Gary. I know it meant a lot to you

  • Nevah!!!!!! 😀

  • John__J

Great to see you in better spirits (even though this episode didn’t feature one) and bringing the thunder!
Great episode even if all the wines weren’t.
qotd: It would be kinda neat but I don’t think it really matters. If they’re separate, it would be two special episodes to look forward to instead of one. And with this being my 984th comment on here I’ll probably be hitting my 1000th comment just before your 1000th episode.

I’m really looking forward to trying more ’08 pinots with all the talk they’ve been getting lately.
For a nerdy wine, I’ve been really into Sorin Coquard’s Cuvee Antique from Burgundy lately from the cesar varietal

  • Feel your pain, sorry about the loss. I was rooting for the Jets. Never have liked them tell I started watching you. I’m a huge fan of the Niners……and yes we are putting all our little footballs in one basket with Jim Harbaugh, but that’s ok.

“Oregon is making a move”. Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing wines from Oregon. We have amazing wines here and new ones are popping up. There are many diamonds in the ruff.

QOTD: Feb. 21st is the day. Do it then, we can all mark it on our calendars and watch.

Thanks again for the wine knowledge.

I got alot respect for you today for snapping back and giving us Vaniacs a great show. Kudos to you. QOTD: Absolutely! Do it!

  • John__J

I hear that, I’m from Baltimore.

  • NJStickist

Purchased a bottle of the Viognier after watching the show. Looking forward to trying it. I’ve had Viognier before but I don’t think I’ve ever had a really good one. QOTD: 1000 on the anniversary.

  • QOTD: Yeeessss!!! Do it!

My girlfriend got us a bottle of 2007 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Premier Cuvee. Haven’t opened it yet, but 2007 in Oregon is supposedly a blah year anyway. Looking forward to drinking it nonetheless!

  • Jeremy

Lack of success only encourages me, Lord Farrin!

  • I bet you have half a mind to demand whether Kmurph had bewitched your horse. 😉

  • Anonymous

Then you must be one enthusiastic son-of-a-bitch 🙂

  • John__J

One more thought: Whenever that 999/1000 episode is it would be nice if you had the rest of your crew at least make a cameo like Mott (stepping in front of the camera), Ian,
K Murph, and of course Sasha. Maybe you could even get SIR Gary Vaynerchuk to pop is head in for a quick second

  • Hey Hey Gary. Great to see you recover from the defeat. It happens to the best of them.

The picture on the Riesling is of two Chanterelle mushrooms not a flower BTW=) QOTD: Do it! 1000 on the 5TH ANNIVERSARY FO SHO!

  • QOTD: oh yeah, you need to land 999 or 1000 on the anniversary.

  • 999 w/ @kmurpf and 1000 with Sasha.

  • Ok, first things first… I’m pretty sure the label on that first wine is a picture of a Chantrelle mushroom, not a flower.

  • solid point lol

  • it was 100% a mushroom LOL

  • FARON- got it

  • LOL good call!

  • yes read the comments, i like , like it!

  • can u really?

  • Double up and get it to 999 or 1000.

I am excited to find the Viognier, it sounds great. I will say that I have noticed a bit of a trend with some of the california pinot’s that seem to be a bit lighter in color, interesting that it might be similar in Oregon.

  • No worries, the drawing was still insanely impressive.

  • As a 4.75 year watcher, my vote is land episode 1000 on the anniversary.

  • Anonymous

What about a committment to the important part of the comment wine boy? Are you down for catching up to your responsibilities or what? 😉

  • Anonymous

QOTD: I think you stick with what got you here, and don’t “fudge” the numbers to line up episode numbers with anniversaries. I don’t know why, but to me the 1k mark is a bigger deal than the 5yr mark anyway.

I think it would be funny if the Oak Monster made an appearance during the 5yr show though!
