This episode was really fun to watch! The Finger Lakes wines seem very interesting. I liked how Gary explained each one in a simple way. Are these wines easy to find in local stores? Thanks for sharing!

BTW, I once had an AMAZING Canadian Riesling from the Niagara region… I was very surprised at its quality.

  • Gary,
How about a Super Bowl wine show? Wines to drink with Super Bowl foods – chili, wings,
chips, salty stuff, dips, giant hoagies…I really liked the Mike M. Sommelier show.

QOTD: favorite thing from NY state? My wife of course! 😉 She’s from Yaphank out on Long Island.

Can’t honestly say that I’ve tried any Finger Lakes whites, I’ll have to give them a shot. I’ve definitely tried a few of the Long Island reds from my wife’s neck of the woods, and was always pleasantly surprised. That might make an interesting show for ya, Gary!

I enjoy NYS Reislings. I think that, and this is only my opinion, but not only do wine lovers have to start respecting FingerLakes wines, but the Fingerlakes producers have to start being more serious and start respecting their own wines. Having visited Napa/Sonoma several times and also visited the Fingerlakes, CA is much more serious about their wines. Some F.L. producers are serious, but more often or not, the F.L. wineries are tourist attractions and nothing else. Granted the top producers are great, but the Kool Aid contingent brings the whole region down. QOTD: Being from Upstate NY (real upstate, not Westchester) I am 2.5 hours from NYC and 2.5 hours from Boston and 1 hour from the Queen of Lakes, Lake George and the Adirondacks, not to mention 50 minutes from the Historic Saratoga Race Track. It’s a beautiful part of the State. Keep up the good work.

  • QotD: I wanna’ give a shout out to current starting ILB for my Kansas City Chiefs, Jovan Belcher. He’s a native of New York State.

Had the 2002 for New Years and it was fantastic.

Love the references in this show. My brother did that exact same thing with the deodorant when he visited over Christmas lol. He didn’t hide it either which was the funniest part lol. He just walked in and said I used your deodorant Robert. Priceless.
Qotd 1: Never had a New York fingerlakes wine but I have had an ice wine from Ontario, Canada which I consider basically the same region since its on the lake still.
Qotd 2: I think of NYC in general because its iconic in so many different ways: immigrants, hub of business, happening social scene, etc.

Have had numerous Finger Lakes Rieslings. In addition to the producers in this show, Anthony Road, Fox Run, Bloomer Creek, and Red Tail Ridge make tremendous Riesling. Would love to see you here GV!

Herrmann J. Wiemer grew up in Germany and learnt the winemaking business there. His wines are German American wines http://www.schiller-wine.blogspot.com/2009/12/german-winemakers-in-world-herrmann-j.html

Gary, when are you going to do a show on the Etna wines???
Nerello Mascalese based wines are going to be soon probably the best wines coming out of Italy.

    Gary Vayner-ChuCK

You may want to consider a Finger Lakes versus Northern Michigan blind smack down.
Loving the energy bro. Contagious like D Rose and wins… Yeah money..

  • The annual wine event at the Watkins Glen racetrack is a great event. Nothing beats being able to camp onsite at a wine tasting. 80 wineries and only a few hours from NJ. WLTV Road Trip?

Finger Lakes Wine Festival The Finger Lakes Wine Festival offers the largest showcase of New York State wines with over 80 wineries paired with regional artisans, music, culinary classes, and breweries all in one beautiful location.

  • How about a Finger Lake, No Mich, Wash/Oregon Riesling smack down. 3 Rieslings enter…1 Riesling leaves.

  • 😀

  • Note to self: Castello gets everything in the Will for picking Long Island. 😀

  • Gary, Thanks so much for having a Finger Lakes show. I live in Western NY and frequent the FLX and LOVE their wines especially the Rieslings. I really like how they tend to have very racy acidity and they change substantially from Cayuga, Seneca and Keuka lake. BTW if you ever get the chance trying the Argetsinger Riesling from Ravines it is special. The riesling is king there but there are also high quality Gewurtztraminer, Pinot Noir, Cab Franc and even Lemberger. Great Show!

QOTD: My favorite thing in New York are the Catskill Mountains, nothing more beautiful than overlooking the Hudson River on a nice spring day. That and the St. Bonaventure Bonnies!

  • You know V. If you go 375 miles South and East of the Finger Lakes, you will find another area that doesn?t get enough respect and you shed more light on. 😉

Been scared of Rieslings of late. They have been such fruit sweet bombs but I can’t wait to try some nice balanced ones.

    QOTD: Home

For me Reisling=Alsace. No need to go further.

Very interesting show GV, too bad we don?t get NY Wines down here in Brazil, mostly California and Oregon? Those wines sounded perfect for Pernambuco (My State) and Bahia state seafood.

QOTD: Have to say, NYC! The parks, museums, shops and the food.

I first tried a NY Riesling (Herman Wiemer) on your recommendation some time ago, and have since happily consumed several from the region.
QOTD: The High Peaks region and its’ people. (I’m biased as my eldest son was born there, but there you have it).

  • QOTD: Believe it or not, the subway. Nothing like hoping on the subway at 5am after a long night and all throughout the course of the night.

How can the ’08 Dr Konstantin be noted as a “white meritage”?? It’s not a sav blanc or semillion.

  • Anonymous

NY Rieslings are good and need the credit, nice qpr. need better marketing is all.

qotd; Besides the music ,sports, people and culture what is there?

  • QOTD: favorite thing about New York State are the trees in the fall.

I really enjoy hearing about any U.S. wines not from California or Oregon. I mean, I love hearing about California and Oregon too because I’m from Oregon, but I’m curious about some other places too.

  • Nice show highlighting an up and coming region. I’ve always wanted to take the Finger Lakes wine tour during the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen.

I’ve had the Wiemer before, quite nice but I always compare to my fav German Rieslings which can be unfair.

QOTD: NY State = Manhattan/Times Square

    Cheers!

P.S. Let’s do some wines from Virginia, i.e. Viognier and some Champagnes, esp the one served at Obama’s state dinner. http://www.thewinecabinet.com/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=247
