This episode was really fun to watch! The Finger Lakes wines seem very interesting. I liked how Gary explained each one in a simple way. Are these wines easy to find in local stores? Thanks for sharing!

    GV:

Thanks for the doing the Finger Lakes show I’ve been asking for. You’re not awful. That show didn’t suck.

QoTD: I like standing waist-deep in the Sound, fly rod in hand, on the North Shore of Long Island, casting for Stripers. That’s my New York smile producer.

Oh, and practice with me…”There are 5 (FIVE) days in the week.” This week let’s try for a LBF (Laid Back Friday), eh?

Just started getting into rieslings. Thanks for the info, when I think Riesling, I think Germany.. but I’ll try to get my hands on some Finger Lakes Riesling and give it a shot.

QOTD: Pacers vs. Knicks. Boom Baby!!

  • ALLAN

I’m wearing Chanel No 5 as we speak…….

  • ALLAN

My man, Germany is my favourite place too, when we’re talking the Riesling Grape. Do give the Finger Lakes a shot as well, good boy. Cheers!

    It just is. Bite me.

Don’t know a lot about NY wines. But I do like Riesling. A lot.

  • You should think Alsace France too

  • Did that 20 year old girl rub some off on you? That’s odd, they tend to be over 30 when Chanel come to play 🙂

GV – BIG UPS TO DR. FRANK! You should do a NY sparkling wine show…their Chateau Frank wines are really quite good!

    OVER AND OUT!

  • ALLAN

I was never good at math.

    qotd: NYC
I’ve had NY riesling, but I definitely need to explore NY wines more than I have.
And a Rkatsiteli on the show, really cool. I’ve heard of that varietal, but haven’t had that yet. I need to get on it.

  • John__J

Nice story with the whole pulling the car over and peeing on yourself stuff. Had me cracking up

    QOTD: my grandmother’s house.

Had a Keuka Lake wine recently that was solid (http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=1050130). Definitely in the 85-90 range.

Gary – why don’t you ever review any Long Island wines? Seems I have seen a couple episodes about the Finger Lakes, but nothing on the North Fork.

  • ALLAN

…..So when’s the next show coming, G?, Gotta keep up the pace…………………. !

  • Also..QOTD: Best part of NY State…the 1000 Islands region up in the north country bordering Canada. Unbelievable up there.

  • Never tried a NY wine, but looking forward to it now- love Riesling!
Favorite thing about NY- the food and the energy of NYC!

QOTD: I don’t live there either.

  • QOTD: I must say The Village in NYC. Haven’t spent much time in NY State or NYC but that neighborhood just vibes with me. Thanks for the tips on Finger Lakes Riesling – next time I am Stateside I will give them a go.

  • great episode Gary! funny stuff. i’ve never tried any wine from New York, but hope to soon. and i’ve never been to NY, so don’t know what my favorite thing would be.

This will be odd for someone from North Carolina, but my favorite thing about New York State is a old time Italian restaurant/steakhouse in Elmira, NY called “Moretti’s” Back in the late 80’s/early 90’s, the food was fabulous. Don’t know if that still holds, but would be willing to take a drive just to find out. The steaks were to die for back then…. Every steak had a side plate of pasta and they had much better Chianti than we could find back home. Just great memories.

Do you think it would be wrong if I ran up and sniffy sniffed a couple of ladies hugging the next time I saw them so I could learn that wine smell?

I have never tried a NY wine but will be on the lookout now. QOTD: How about a favorite moment instead of a thing? “Do you believe in miracles? YES!”

  • ALLAN

When will Oz stop by ?

I was thrilled to see your take on NY, Finger Lakes wines. My home town was in northern PA and we made many trips to the Finger Lakes wine country. That was quite a few years ago( I’m a very old lady). I could never convince my Ohio friends that it was pretty good wine. Most of them are CA and French wine snobs.

  • QOTD: The Jets for rolling over in the 1st half and allowing the Steelers to go to the Super Bowl!!!

Awesome… Only place in the world where you can hear wine described as friendship/hugs lol

  • DmitriEn

QOTD: Niagara Falls and Hudson Valley

/Nice zveroboi reference! Drank tons of it when was a kid.

When am I visiting you ?
New Yawker…had NY Reislings.. Have gone to many wineries in this state..I think Reislings are good in NY..but I dont have much to say about other varietals around here, in my humble opinion…

QOTD: Restaurants/Theater/Architecture/Museums/NY Public Library <-was there today!
many many things…even some of the people!!. lol ..except the snow! Way too much of that !! LOL

You are CRAZY brother! How funny, “Pissing on your fingers”. LMAO! I’m sure there a lot of guys (and maybe some gals) who do that anyway and not for medicinal reasons. 8P

Solid show. I do like Rieslings and the pairings were spot on. I know you have done Finger Lakes before but always like to hear about the area. Very glad to see you “really” back into the show. You do make me laugh cause that is just how you are.

QOTD1: Never had a NY Riesling, may have to try one just for you G.
OOTD2: Buffalo, (Niagara Falls, Buffalo Hot Wings)that’s right, I said it, BUFF-ALO! Plus a very close friend lives in NYC.

QOTD: My favorite thing about NY was when my Pens beat the Rangers in the playoffs after the piece of crap Adam Graves tried to tomahawk Mario’s wrist off. Beautiful memory!

I’m a Cali now but born in PA. I’m extremely interested in East Coast wines. I had a Noiret that I enjoyed (I’ve heard that’s quite an accomplishment) and I want to know more about wines from that area.

I was wondering what everyone thought about Noiret and some of these other genetically engineered (if I’m correct about that) red wine varietals. Have you had them Gary? Share some knowledge with us dude.

    Yours,

    B.S.

  • NJ Big Chris

Ive Had the Dr Frank a few times before. Bought it at Wine Library as a recommendation from K-Murph. Ive had the riesling, gewurtz and rkatsiteli. Liked them all. Didn’t blow me away but they were very serviceable and the price point was attractive.

The best thing about NY state is Manhattan and the pizza there.

  • ALLAN

    Salute, brother!

You should think about changing your name to MEHonthemoon68 =?

  • QOTD: The best thing about NY is when George Costanza worked for the Yankees.

On NY wines… they’re ok. I wish I could be more enthusiastic but even for the price, they still aren’t that good. There are just too many better options out there right now.

QOTD: the Fall foliage is spectacular. Will never forget visiting Cooperstown NY at that time of year and looking out over the lake from the Fenimore Art Museum…
Yes, I have tried Riesling from NY, and it’s probably the best area for that varietal outside of Germany, in my opinion.

  • ALLAN

And the bearded lady said to me……..

  • Alexandre-CF

The deodorant thing just hapend to me like a week ago, LoL…:p

I never had a NY riesling, never roube one in Brazil.

    QOTD: food scene
