  • good show, the double pour is a nice touch! still like the longer in depth episodes, maybe you can still mix that in at least once/week.

QOTD: not sure, havent had a napa cab in a while, but other comments are giving me ideas 🙂

QOTD: Right now the 2007 Mondavi Napa Valley is killer for me. Routinely at $19.99, I’ve got it (a few cases now) for $16.67. The Beringer 2007 is pretty good too at $14.99. Hands down, if you can still find the Mondavi at $16.67, it’s the buy of the vintage.

Short show, short comment: Good. QOTD: Raymond Reserve; Cobblestone.

Damn…late again! Work always gets in the way only WLTV time!

Glad to see the LM Napa as I’ve picked it up twice and sat it right back down. I could do without the oakiness, but will grab after hearing how fruit driven it is. Fuse can stay on the shelf…lol.

QOTD: I’m going to have to go with Titus or Justin. Just solid efforts, with the Justin just falling off in 08. Only time will tell. 07 was most def a good year!

Didn’t like the Martini I’ve had before and I don’t try enough in this range but I tasted “The Sum”, drinkable I guess

QOTD: I’m a little bit shokked that only 75% of the wine may be from the same grape and it’s tollerated as as a single grape wine. It’s a very long time ago that I’ll have a Napa Cab.
    maybe overprised in Europe?

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Yeah, why didn’t the Oak Monster come to life?

Berringer is always an oldy but goody! Have to try the Raymond….for obvious reasons….lol

Nice format, G. To the point, and well done today! For my $$, try BV Napa Cab, a ridiculous bargain @ $15. These folks are doing it right! My Steelers laid an egg, let’s go get em next season.

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

    Worth trying, huh?

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Yeah….where in the world is our KMurph?

  • Cubatobaco (Ray)

Gary is the only person to characterize a flavor as a verb.

Its interesting that the Louis M is $19 in the states, that’s how much it is here as well (BC CA) and we usually pay about twice what you guys do…

Like the new abridged format! For my money, BV Napa Cab is a ridiculous steal at $15. Beaulieu has it down to textbook smoothness. My Steelers laid an egg, all hail GB and let’s get on with life again.

QOTD: Mondavi Napa. Gotta go with the classic.
I enjoyed the ’06 Martini at a wedding also though, I have to say. Haven’t tried the ’07 yet.

I hate to be a hater but Neil Ellis South African Cabernet Sauvignon is better than ANY Napa Cab I have ever had. The 2004 anyway.
Hey Gary, try Neil Ellis VS Caymus or Shafer blind head to head. I think it may be a shocker.

  • Anonymous

Hey in Europe they often don’t tell you what grapes are in the wine at all! You have to go to the internet. : )

  • Anonymous

    Ever try Neil Ellis?

  • Anonymous

Too short for me to. He could use a high chair. ; )

  • Anonymous

Yeah, episode 1000 should be like Robert Parker and free shipping for a week!!!

  • Anonymous

Hess is very good. Ever try Neil Ellis?

  • DaveAll

    short.

    nice.

    but short.
:* ) seeking Kahuna’s or other shows… to make it an even 10 minutes. :*)

Yeah where IS the oak monster.
Is now going to be Napa rocks the hizzy and look out for the poop monster and veggie bandit?

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

QOTD: don’t have one. Crazy expensive in Denmark.

  • Anonymous

Chateau Ste Michelle is from Washington, but good none the less.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

    And much more expensive 🙁

  • Anonymous

On the real, I can’t think of a Napa Cab under 30 that I’m a HUGE fan of. BV, I guess. I’ve been drinking a lot of the Washington value cabs lately.

That Louis Martini is reminding me of a young Rocky Maivia.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

    U said KMurph… 🙂

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

    My precious.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

    Ohhh yes indeed.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

And by the way. DO NOT like the 5 min. show. Give me more. I need my daily fix.

    qotd: Fransiscan

Great format and I enjoy the change of pace.

  • Anonymous

5-8min = no variety blaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ! ! ! Walmart lucky duck wines, what do you think of those… R they too cheap to even consider?

  • Anonymous

QOTD: I had the Hendry HRW Cabernet Sauvignon at a restaurant and loved it. I have been trying to find it at retail ever since… If anyone knows where to get it in the DC metro area, let me know! 🙂

  • Anonymous

Not many. Probably Barboursville (VA) cabs.

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Does it count if I got some heavily discounted Hall ’06 at 29.95?

  • No wines you can mehntion?

*waits for the Tony Dinozzo slap up side the head

  • Anonymous

    Hell yeah!

  • Is slightly amused that AndersN and Allan to become the Spinozas of this comment section.

QOTD: My friends have influenced me to like their favorite under-30 Cab Chateau St Jean, not bad! Tonight before I knew this was a cab show, we opened a 2005 Showket Napa cab which was quite nice (heidi barrett consultant). While it wasn’t originally under $30, I bought it for $17.99 at the PA Chairman’s Selection close-out sale in October. Nice balance. Nice mouth feel. My husband was impressed. He’s not used to me popping open a more premium wine with Wednesday night burgers on the broiler.

  • QOTD – I would have to agree with some others that BV is a nice one. Another, that although in many years doesn’t get to the 75% Cab, is the Chappellet Mountain Cuvee, The 2007 was the best sub $30 napa red I have had in a while. Probably why I can’t find it anywhere…

Ya know, MehlbaLI… nothing seems very mehmorable lately…

I am glad you are doing good value wines. Most of us are not spending large amounts of money on wine each night and want to have good wines. QOTD – The local wine shop recommended one last weekend that I think was called CC: (The label was like a chalk board that said something like – I will not drink bad wine). It is supposed to be extra juice from a high end Napa cab vineyard. It was very nice.

Hello, I saw it at Whole Foods in the Fair Lakes area. Lots of Hendry varietals. Bob

Hi Romtina, I saw it at Whole Foods in the Fair Lakes area. Lots of Hendry varietals.

  • QOTD: Discounted about 5 bucks it would have to be 06/07 Frank Family Cab. Amazing bottle of wine for the price.

  • I agree. The offerings have been pretty mehdiocre

  • MattB

John – thank you. Very interesting theory that I would be happy to test with you. I grew up and developed my palate in Europe and came to the USA already drinking wine. Early on I liked the big bold new world cabs, as time as past I have found more traditional restrained flavors more to my taste. Try to stay open minded and so if there are Cali Cabs you think I should try would be excited to give them a try. Do you drink and like European wine too??

    Cheers!

  • Randall

Mehbe we should try another wine site to find some formehdible wines…

  • Ok, I could punch you in arm for that comment. 😛

Gary, do you have any guesses as what wine is under the Banshee label? I had the 2007… bought it from a state store in PA for 30 bones and it was awesome. Very fruit forward and with chocolate espresso flavors and a long, long, long finish. Delicious factor times 10 in my opinion. I read about it and it was supposed to be the exact same wine from an elite Napa producer that couldn’t sell all the wine and couldn’t lower their prices either b/c it would diminish their brand. It was bought by insiders and sold under a different label and name, Banshee. Any thoughts?
