I like Pinot but…..SF Chronicle’s “Top 100 Wines 2010” listed 27 Pinot Noirs, with a price range from 25 to 95 bones, and ONE Merlot, 35 Bucks.
    Really?
At least Oregon is value friendly.

QOTD; I’m working on my own tune right now, it’s called, “Lady in the gold Lexus convertible, why are you speeding and tailgating me through the school zone, past the school for the deaf and blind? All car, no karma.”

I think that’s the first verse.

What about that Canadian guy Justin Beiber great music

    (don’t worry only joking)

  • Randall

    I think I just threw up a little…

QOTD …listening to XX and digging the groove – but that will change this weekend as the new Radiohead comes out saturday for download on their website!

Willamette Valley is also a beautiful drive in summer.
QOTD: No music, just hear my spouse watchin’ the boob tube.

Gotta love a woman who’s talkin’ the speak whatever the hell that means 🙂
    wah-wah WHO?

QOTD: As a matter of fact, cubbie, I was listening to Jamie Cullum’s “You And Me Are Gone” off of The Pursuit album. Phenomenal album, especially if you like ecclectic jazz that thinks outside the box. The best song on the album is the last one, “Music Is Through”. Here is the link for the one I was listening to to Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/47qep48

Great show, great QOTD, great faux pas on the Cab FranK and…well, great show! Have you tried Patricia Green Pinot Noir from Oregon? My favorite.

I agree with you, Dan. I will be checking them out as well? You liked their whole album?

Good episode. Pinot Noir is not high on my list but have tried several.

OOTD – no music right now. My taste in music is most varied, but have not acquired anything in a while. Tend to enjoy acoustic only. My last really good CD was “The Planets” by Gustav Holst. Before that was “The Crow” by Steve Martin. Great banjo action.

  • NJ Big Chris

Great show. I love big extracted Pinot. I am excited to try the Lemelson.

QOTD – I have been listening to old school Snoop Dog a lot lately. G Funk Intro, Aint No Fun (if the homies can’t have none) and Tha Shiznit. I could listen to these three tracks on repeat all day. They are all from the album Doggstyle. You gotta listen to it really loud. Just enough so it drowns out the world and pisses off the neighbors when you do it.

Good week of shows thus far, although you should have discussed the vintages a bit. ’09 much softer and fleshier. ’08 the best balanced in a decade or more…
Myself, I bought 5 cases of ’08 WV Pinot.
    QOTD: Jackie Q.

qotd: I really got into Tom Waits recently and the most recent song I heard today was “Clap Hands” by him. It’s certainly not a new song though.

Great episode, I had some really great pinot’s from the Le Cadeau winery recently out of Willamette. Great stuff, and their 4 pinot’s-Equinoxe, Rocheaux, Diversite and Cote Est really show that the U.S. can make wines that really express their terroir.

Great show GV, hits close to home, I have lived in the Willamette all my life, however I have yet to really enjoy an oregon pinot under $30, which bums me out cause I am really into supporting local farmers. There is just too much wine I like so much more at that price.

QOTD: I just rewatched Donnie Darko so I have been bumping “head over heels” Tears For Fears all week long. Enjoy.

  • Randall

    Two really good choices imo…

Zeppelin Achilles Last Stand is a favorite of mine…

As it happens, I’ve got some tracks from Lou Reed’s ‘New York’ going around and around in my head since I dug it out and played it in the car the other day.

Great to be back in the swing and since getting feedback on my Beaujolais comment yesterday I just found myself ordering a magnum of 2009 Marcel Lapierre Morgon that got reviewed around ep’ 950. A party in a bottle! I’m loving it – or at least the anticipation. Thanks for the links guys. As I live in the UK, Oregon pino ain’t really an option but, going back to 09 again, the Burgundies are looking good. Just popped a basic one the other day and the Mrs commented on it being kinda classy which says something as she doesn’t normally say too much about wine… she just knocks it back.

    GV:

Here’s what I like about this show: These are Pinots that, I believe, many of us have access to, both in terms of finding them, *and* in terms of buying them. It’s neat to see a whole show of wine that, at one time or another, I’ve purchased. That said, I am ALSO glad to see that not one of the three moved you deeply. The force is still strong with you. I was all prepared to call BULLSHIT, and then, I didn’t have to. Good.

Song? Album… This year, for me, has, save a few, been sort of thin on the ground. Do you own The National’s “High Violet”? If not, then you ought to.

  • GV, drank the Adelsheim last week…Found it a little short on the finish and really didn’t catch that blue fruit thing you seemed to get so strongly, but my bottle definitely cranked out the vegetal green qualities all the way to the last drop. Smelled like green bell peppers and raspberries got in a fight in a food processor and the food processor won.

Don’t know if you’re a jazz guy, but:

QOTD: Now playing: Brad Mehldau “Dusty McNugget” from the album “Largo”
Cool shiz. Studied jazz in college and got burned out, but now I play pop music for a living and listen to more jazz than ever.

A lot of Cognac’s are great. I know they’re a spirit, but they do come form grapes

I am glad that there are some reasonably priced pinots from Willamette. I was not sure it was still possible. I am not listening to anything new right now. But I have a song in my head from the radio by a group that I think is called Florence and the Machine.

I’m on the Ludwig Van wagon myself

qotd: Neil Young, “old man” from the album harvest. Just played on my I-tunes and I had to post it.

  • John__J

“New York” is a great album

I’m right there with you, I adore jazz. I could listen to people like Coltrane, Mingus, Miles, Monk, etc. forever.

    Solid show today.

QOTD: Anything by Gentlemen of Japan.

i find that wines from the willamette valley are super vintage driven . . maybe more so than anywhere else in the states. 2008 versus 2009 are like night and day. i can’t stop listening to gaslight anthem’s 59 sound.

FRANK! Pat Mcgee’s sample from his new cd on FB. Overall its been a bluegrass day, thanks to Roy Clark’s version of “Duelings Bangos” on XM this morning.

Right now I’ve been on a BIG ‘Silversun Pickups’ Kick. I also recently bought the 2010 remaster of Pretty Hate Machine. I think it’s like a totally new album…

Also, I don’t like this reference to the 90 point “mendoza line”. What are you talking about, a “mendoza line” refers to the barely acceptable number, it would be like an 84 point score for wines that you wouldnt be embarrased to bring to a friends if everything was closed but the grocery store. 90 points is like a mattingly line, I think we can agree 90 pts is like hitting between .280 and .300. 93 pts is .315 and 95 is .325, we know its not going to be kept up for a career, but fear this guy for the next 5 years.

  • Thanks for the OR Pinot Noir. My last trip to OR was disappointing on the wine front, so this is encouraging.

I commented just yesterday how I was really excited about pinot noir, especially from Oregon right now. Perfect timing! I’ve had the Adelsheim, but the 2008. I liked it quite a bit. I’ve got a couple of Patricia Greens I can’t wait to open soon.

QOTD: “Hey Ahab” and “If It Wasn’t for Bad” from the recent Elton John and Leon Russell collaboration.

    Great show Gary!

QOTD: Scott Henderson “Sultan’s Boogie”. Enjoy!

I’ll be visiting Willamette this Spring for an annual wine trip. I hear it’s absolutely beautiful.

    QOTD: Anything but Beiber.

QOTD: “Jah Live” a remixed version that I have heard a couple of times on Sirius/XM’s “The Joint”, but I have not been able to find on iTunes. The orginal Bob Marley version is legendary and definitely my favorite Bob song.

Great show Gary. Spreading the love of oregon pinot.
qotd- ckc, so kanye’s dark fantasies is good right now.

  • Don’t care about the QOTD so i’m going to make a request….

I’m drinking Jean Philippe Marchand’s nuit saint georges ? Les Argillats? 2004. It’s a long name but it’s a pinot noir. I tried a similar one from 2002 the other day and it doesn’t taste anything like the pinots I’m used to. Also, I just looked it up on your website and you’ve never reviewed a nuit saint georges. Please review it! The nose was great but the taste was all acid.

  • I visited Napa and Sonoma for the first time this past fall… Willamette is next!

QOTD: Mumford and Sons – Little Lion Man

  • Listening to Eli Lieb “Tidal Waves” – http://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/eli-lieb/id401545595
He is pretty unknown, but I love his voice and he has 2 original songs on iTunes. Can’t believe he hasn’t been snagged by a label yet.

Have a TX wine in my glass right now. Chisolm Trail’s “Velvet Lady” Zinfandel. Quite sweet on the front end and not enough spice for my taste, but a very good effort. I didn’t realize TX made wines this good until recently. A solid 85 from me. Whatever that means to the world! LOL
