Line of the day – ‘I start making kangaroo references that piss off Australia.’

Always love these on location episodes although could’ve done with Mott at the beginning when the light wasn’t right, GV looked like he was in a shadow.

    Oh Yeah! Happy Anniversary!

QOTD: this is soooo easy. My favorite moment from the first 5 years happened over 4 years ago. You were doing the “training your pallette” episode. At the end you ate a jalapeño and you struggled. Sorry my dude but it was kind of funny. You followed this up with slamming a bunch of dirt in your mouth then finished the episode off by slamming some Kristal. Fabulous moment!

Really good episode. I love seeing new things and learning stuff about the wine industry. This episode was killer! Thank you very much!

I raise the glass of pinot I’m currently drinking to you. Here’s to the next five years!

    Yours,

    B.S.

    Happy anniversary.

The Blackbird Vineyards wine is in PA.

  • DaveAll

obviously not Mott holding the camera. smile.
Agree about aged white wine – I am serving a 2007 Viognier that is flying off the shelf, which I enjoy pointing out it’s OLD! hahaha.
Get the Sideways author on and have him talk about Vertical his new book. !
Fav moment – was and is the surprise packs, our neighborhood buys them and then watches the show while swirl, snif and sipping them. Great experience. Which is what wine is – it’s not a drink, it’s an experience. The moment.

    Good one Bozo…Happy 5th

Congrats Gary and your whole V-Nation. Dedication + Passion = Success.

Happy 5th Gary, great episode. I’m looking forward to 50 more years.
qotd: How in the hell can you pick just 1? There’s too many- the training your palate on #148, all the wine description’s that no one has ever heard before ( like the a wine smelling like the Moss-man action figure from the He-Man cartoon. I had that figure, it was weird and cool that I knew what you meant), the times Sasha was on and the way you 2 interact, all the episodes with all the lesser known wines (including the vin jaune episode, even though you panned the one from that producer), all the cool guests like Hendrik Thoma the Master Somm, Kermit Lynch, Jancis Robinson, the Master’s of Wine you’ve had on, the blind tasting episodes, having SIR Gary on the show who people seem to either love, hate, or just plain not get at all (I’m one of the ones who loves seeing him on), to your whole crew and their appearances from Mott to Ian to K Murph etc etc.
So how do you expect anyone to pick 1?

I guess my favorite moment is the one that’s happening at THAT moment because it’s never the same as the last. You never know what the next format is gonna be, or what guest (whether they have a lot to do with the world of wine or nothing at all), or what oddball wine is gonna show up next (here’s to hoping to see a valdiguie, more charbono, a cesar, a marselan, a vin de paille, a Uhudler, a trousseau gris-thanks Randall, and everything else that hasn’t shown up yet.), and you especially dont know what the next crazy whack ass wine description you’re gonna come up with next that actually makes sense.
    Thanks Gary.

  • Your show is really cool. Congrats on making it for 5 years! Just started watching this year but I enjoy every episode. You should come visit us down at Virginia Tech!! We all would love to have you visit. You have the chance to shape the next generation of wine drinkers. How can you say no?

  • Wow 5 years! Thanks for everything! 1000/5= 200 shows per year (only 260 weekdays per year.. what a commitment!)
Been there since the beginning. Not always commenting but really enjoy all your bringing to us!

    Thanks for everything!

QOTD: Gotta be episode 148.. inspired me alot!

Great show, but you should have taken Mott with you. QOTD: Any show with your Dad; the two part Peter Mondavi show was great.

  • Cheryl S.

    Congrats on the anniversary!
QOTD: Love the shows with your dad – though it’s usually really hard to hear him!

  • Grill Factor

Thanks for all the shows and the tremendous amount of wine knowledge that you’ve passed on.

QOTD: The episodes with Maynard because I was a metalhead long before I got into wine!

QOTD — still you in the snow!

Congratulations on five years! Hope you can keep ’em coming for many more years.

I love the TastingRoom concept. So often I buy several bottles, wanting to taste them all in the short term, but it ends up taking me several weeks sometimes to try all the new things I picked out. Makes for much quicker exploration.

QOTD: So many to choose from. I have to name a few. I love all the Sir Gary V appearances. I loved the time you reviewed one of the Seghesio Zins and got so revved up about how fruit forward it was you described it as (paraphrasing) “so much fruit at the end of the rainbow that some of it comes back up and goes up your nose.” Eating dirt, in Spain with Robert Parker, and “What Pairs with Cereal” were also great.

But, when it gets down to it, my favorite episode(s) of all time was the three-part one with Kermit Lynch. Absolutely fascinating.

  • Congrats on a great 5 years.

QOTD: Any episode with Sasha, The infamous #796 Buehler episode and my favorite episode #880 where Gary thinks he’s 5’10” >:P

  • John__J

I thought it was great that you mentioned how long whites can age. Some of my fav wine’s are White Chateauneuf’s, Alsatian Pinot Gris’s and Alsatian Rieslings that are 8+ years old.
Plus with top Savenniere’s able to go 100+, Chateau-Chalon’s 150+, Tokaji Essencia’s 200+ and Madeira’s being virtually ageless, I was definitely humbled years back when I thought whites didn’t have much again potential compared to reds.

  • @Grill Factor – Same here. 🙂 Love Tool.

or when Gary went through about a 15 episode streak where he was saying “Radool” a lot?

  • Randall

I should be sending that thing this Thursday, or maybe next Monday. My mom is also getting another bottle of cellarrat5’s port (by popular demand… meaning, “Ooh, I loved that! Where can I get another bottle?” she asked me).
    Cheers!

  • Alexandre-CF

Hey Gary, Congratulations. 5 years bringing serious thunder!! You ROX!!
PLZ don´t ever stop with WLTV.

QOTD: i have 2 moments a funny one, thats the training your palate thing (glorious stuff) and a serious one with Jancis Robinson.

  • Good show, agree with California whites again, find your own way.
    Happy anniversary WLTV !!!

QOTD: the show where vayniacs submitted some fake WLTV shows, and that dude in his backyard tasting koolaid, it was amazing.

  • John__J

Great. Cellarrat5 makes a port? That’s really cool.

    AWESOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEE GARY!

  • Randall

Only because I got bored waiting (aka “Allan-esque cyber-stalking”) and watched an “Archer” episode on hulu.com…
    :D!!

  • JOEYdaMUSH

Thanks Gary for keeping the show going all these years.

The coolest thing in the 5 years of WLTV was way back in 2008 when I emailed you for advice on cheap wines because I mentioned I was pretty broke at the time, and you replied and actually offered to lend me a few bones. I didn’t take you up on the offer but that instantly made me realize that you were a cool down to earth person and not someone who was full of shit or two faced.

  • John__J

I’m right there with you both on that

  • Thoughts on lurking: I was a lurker for 2 years. That changed about a month ago. Just have to say that I have never had more fun watching the episodes now that I am actively involved. Never going back into the shadows!

    Congrats Gary, well done!

QOTD: I was really impressed by the Jean-Marc Roulot episodes. Brian Loring too—actually for the big night tonight I am enjoying an ’03 Garys’ Vineyard Pinot from LWC. Moments in general though—Blind, baby, blind!

Congrats Gary on your first five years. Keep ’em coming. QOTD: my two favorite episodes: #427 with the Chateauneuf du papes and #752 with the 04 Brunellos. Also the little things: brown bags; Bordeaux in the snow at your NY apartment; when you rate a wine “85”; Sir Gary Vaynerchuk; the oak monster; the “big ass” glass; etc. etc. etc.

  • Christiaan

    Keep it going Gary!! gratz!

    QOTD: Episode #752 Brunello powa!

  • Randall

White, ruby, and Vintage. Some of the best non-Portuguese ports I’ve ever had, along with Sacramento’s own Revolution Winery’s 5 grape port. The winery he works at (St. Amant) basically pioneered the 5 grape, true porto style here in California in the early 80’s, as far as I know. And with both of these producers making ports at half the price point of Portuguese ports, I have cut back on my im’ports’. Ouch! I’m not a very punny guy…

congrats on all your success Gary.

Ivve been watching for years, but just started commenting in the past few weeks when you called for all your lurkers to come out. I’ve already had some great wine conversations on this blog, and I’m glad you’re going to keep things going.

qotd: the first time i saw Sir Gary Vaynerchuck. Really funny stuff.

  • KAHUNA

Wow Five years- and in wine country – maybe another countdown!

Gary! Happy Anniversary to WLTV! You’ve accomplished, and continue to build upon something extremely wonderful!!! I thank you VERY MUCH for all the information, excitement and continued success in everything you do! I know of very few people who are as driven, goal oriented and SINCERE!

  • Anonymous

Congratulations, Gary! I’ve seen them all! Here’s to as many more that you have the passion for.

QOTD: tough to pick but my favorites are training the palate, your dad, Jancis Robinson, Kermit Lynch.

  • First and foremost, Feliz Cinco Años! It has been a fun and memorable time.

“Shooting a opossum with a BB gun” is not one of your “usual” wine characteristics. Absolutely hilarious. I will definitely take advantage of their 1 cent shipping deal and try a sampler pack. Thanks

QOTD: There have been too many to list but my “signature moment” was meeting you for the 1st time at a book signing in MD and you knew who I was in the crowd as soon as you walked out. It may have been the #18 jersey that gave me away but nevertheless, an epic treat for me. Or, it could have been meeting you and Mott at a Virginia wine dinner or another time braving a rain storm during my lunch hour to see you at book signing in VA. Nevertheless, each and every evening watching you on WLTV brings joy to my life. Thank you.

    Cheers as always,
    Dom

Happy 5-year anniversary Gary. Glad you’re still going strong with WLTV.

QOTD: So many favorites. Taping outside in a hailstorm, #85 Jersey shots, spilling Isosceles on the carpet, the laid-back couch, personal shout-outs, Sasha episodes, cereal and candybar pairings, various spitbuckets, sports predictions, swords and champagne, several excellent guests, KMurph, baseball card packs, action figures, barbecuing and Sir Gary. You being you. It works!!!

Gary, Thank you so much for this show and congratulations on 5 years. I still remember the first time I found your show so long ago searching for “wine tasting videos”. I was as blown away then as I am today. Your enthusiasm and passion for wine have seriously helped me embrace my own. These shows, Crush It, and I am sure (come March) TYE, have all been entertainment, education, and inspiration for me.

QOTD: The “train your palate” episode. Licking the rock, the jalepeno, I still giggle just thinking about you running off camera for water at the end.

  • Randall

    Please see previous ep comments…
    Cheers!

p.s. Love Sir Gary as well!

  • NJ Big Chris

Congrats on 5 years Gary. I haven’t been along for the ride the whole time but I am hoping to get many more years of enjoyment out of this show. PLEASE, keep up the great work!

Hey Gary, maybe you could provide NJ residents with some tasting room experience by carrying some other their packs in your store? I have been dying to try some of these packs but because NJ is a downer we can’t get anything good shipped here. Thanks!

  • Anonymous

I forgot about the Kool-Aid video! That was a funny one, thanks for the reminder!

  • KAHUNA

QOTD: between fellow Vayniacs getting DWi’d, being banned by their wives, reselling sold wine, getting neutered, deficating on shrubs – it is too hard to pick a favorite moment-

But the LouCas dinner with Sasha may be my all time favorite followed by the big bash at Basilico’s where you had Canoli cake for my Birthday!

  • Anonymous

QOTD: Probably 182 in the snow, where you smell the wine as the wind blows the glass across the table (in short-sleeves, natch).
