Line of the day – ‘I start making kangaroo references that piss off Australia.’

Always love these on location episodes although could’ve done with Mott at the beginning when the light wasn’t right, GV looked like he was in a shadow.

Hard to believe it’s been 5 years..I didn’t start watching until mid-second year, and i can’t tell you how much I have expanded my palate. I have had a few packs from tasting room, and I agree they are pushing the wine envolope. QOTD-too hard to pin down one moment, but I do love the episodes with your Dad.

  • fuh, figh, walk, for Jonny Walker Rey!

Congrats, Gary! I’m a smarter wine consumer and I enjoy wine more now than I did 5 years ago, and you’re the biggest reason for that.

A hearty congratulations on 5 years. I have been watching for much of that time and want to thank you for educating and entertaining us every week. QOTD – I can’t pick one moment because each episode has something good in it. We always enjoy it when Sasha is on. I hope there are 5 more years ahead. Thanks

  • BP

Congrats on 5 years – too bad disqus sucks so badly! I’ve lurked, gone thru a few IDs, got so PO’d at it that I stopped even considering commenting but like Sonny Corleone and the mob, you just keep pulling me back in!

QOTD – Episode #43, Santiago Achaval – Such passion and pride. Of place, of product and of culture. Eloquent, suave, debonair. And then there was you GV!

This epi struck me as a perfect example of wine yin and yang – your bombastic boyish bravado bouncing off his subtle suave sageness. But both of you soooooo enthusiastic about the same thing – wine!

Thank You. It worked. I tried 5years before. I didn’t realize it was case sensitive and needed it to be in CAPS.

  • I have to make an addendum to my previous response to the QOTD.

I just stumbled on the wine and BACON pairing episode, and I have to say: it was EPIC!!!!! It’s definitely my new favorite episode of all the ones I have seen thus far. I’ve been tending to like your pairing episodes the most, but I think bacon definitely kills licorice, candy bar, chocolate, hot dog and even my previous favorite, cereal! (even though those are all amazing value for a CKC like me!) Thanks for all of your great work, Gary!

5 years, it’s just a beginning. At least 5 years to come.
But nevertheless, thanks for this 5. It has been a great joy for me to view the episodes, to find the suggested wines (not all of them off course) to comment, to think about wine in general, to share the love for wine ………
The first video is saw I thought: what is this? is this serious? this guy (you Gary) is pooring wine in a glas like it’s lemonade, is spitting, is shouting ….. that’s not serious. But for some reason it attracted me because what you do it ways beyond what’s accepted as being normal, especially regarding to wine where everything is rather boring, stiff and old.
I became a huge fan, HUGE FAN, HUGE FAN ……

QOTD. Several, and to be honnest most. But the one’s dropping my mind now is the episode in front of the store, during winter, in the snow, and with champagne. I loved it.

  • This is awesome! I wish there was a class like this at my school!!

    Good week for WLTV
Bad week for the Vayniacs, No New Content!!?!

    Hi Gary,
I hope you didn’t pop ‘n pour the blackbird. That wine opens up for days. Yes it is expensive, but in my opinion and that of many other knowledgable wine experts (Parker, wine enthusiast and more) deserves more that an 89. But, I realize, we all have our own palate. If you ever taste it again, please give it a few hours before you taste it.

    I second that

Gary, you hit the nail on the head at the end when you talked about the people that I’ve met because of WLTV…….I could list all the douches, but you know who they are.

So, thanks to you and Mottster for the first 1,000 Eps.

Favorite moment: Well, I list 4 …in no particular order

~Ep #97 — announcement of the Launch of the SpreadSheet :toivo:
~Ep #462 — at the 12:20 mark, your reaction to the Hoax that Mott and I created about you “firing” me. You were really pissed….it’s great!! πŸ™‚
~Ep #681 — the TimF episode (probably my favorite ep)
    ~Ep #902 — the Coleman Nicole Ep w/ Brandon M

  • is watching repeats.

  • QOTD: favorite moment(s) = every time Gary V gets worked up at the thought of Vinnie Testeverde

I’ve been lurking for about a year and am glad to hear that the show will go on. I have become a huge fan of your show; even my 2 yr. old enjoys watching it with me and now sniffy-sniffs his juice cup, and my wine glass (no sips yet, just in case anyone’s concerned). Though I have been drinking wine for years, I am now beginning to really taste it. Bought Mark Oldman’s first book and a Tasting Room pack. Just trying to learn. Congratulations and many thanks for making wine more fun!

hmm Nicolas Joly ep was pretty awesome, the german Master of Wine you guys had good chemistry, the blind tasting in general, random mott appearances

Okay, so I know nothing about wine and I have to choose a bottle of “local” USA wine to bring to Australia to someone I have never met, but loves wine. A lady I know, who does know about wine, is not available, so I turned to the internet and here you are! I love your descriptions of the sniffy-snif and the taste, but don’t think much of the spit bucket. I still don’t know what wine to buy, but I have to go get this done today. I visit a local winery and taste the sparkling wines, sweets and semi-sweet (told you I know nothing). I found 3 (3!) that I LIKE. So I buy six bottles! My wine has a crew off cap — am I a jerk? Should I have bought Japanese plum wine or better yet Boone’s farm? I live in Tennessee. Have you ever had Tennessee wine????

Oh, and make those eps about 30 min. :))))))

  • In Gary’s defense, the wines he tries have usually been open for a couple of hours and in room temperature

  • It sure look like Gary’s store πŸ˜€

  • Another great episode GV and great to see you on the move.

As a very positive side note, I will be seeing you at RJ Julia’s in Madison, CT on March 10th. Can’t wait to finally get a chance to say hello in person. Couldn’t pick a better venue either.

QOTD – I have to say the 2 buck chuck episode. Simply because you DID it, and your tasting notes to this day make me laugh. Mostly because they are true. And that’s the real crux of this show isn’t it, “true”.

Happy B-Day GV. Good stuff once again. I am impressed at Tasting Room’s attention to detail. The sterile hood being used as a filling station is pretty impressive.

    QOTD: A toss up b/w
    1) Episode 212: the Trader Joe’s from the Bronco Wine Company Charles Shaw Blend episode: Classic TN’s include:
    a) The Beaujolais: “water that you put sugar on it b/c you don’t have no soda around the house … and then you dumped an action figure in it that you played with outside in your underpants” What? who says that!!!
    b) The Merlot: “if you ever wondered what a gremlin smells like that hasn’t taken a shower in a while … that’s what this smells like” Do gremlins take showers? That kills them right?

    2) Episode 900: The Return of Sir Gary Vaynerchuk. Fortunately, there is no charge for AWESOMENESS.

  • QOTD: Charles Smith episode. SO funny.

Congrats on 5 years!! And the upcoming 1000th!! and the most recent book release! and….
Talleys are clearly great. don’t overmuscle their wines. they raise great fruit, clearly, and really balance between strong, outstanding attributes, and subtle restraint, ending with elegant, and appropriately priced wines. Lafollette’s name and legend, even greater. What’s not to love? Tandem’s are good, and as a cyclist, I loved the little ‘value play’ in the Peloton blend. I like to be flexible like that, as Pinots, and even Chards run into some finite amounts of how many one can ‘favor’, in a crowded market of players. Good offerings!

  • Anonymous

Qotd – a very hard question, considering (even TRYING to remember all of the outstanding, legendary (wine) guests you’ve had. and there’s even much MORE that you’ve done, on your own… I’d like to pick as a favorite moment, a solo moment of yours – but it’s very difficult – . I’ll have to suffice to say, just the ‘moment’ of your sincerity, honesty, and will to further a nation’s journey into wine. You are best, my man!!!

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

But not in this episode though- as he says, he is in a temperature controlled environment.

  • Charlotte K. Jensen

Ha ha. Thats the one I posted a few days ago. My favorite line ever!
