    …999…

  • Oldtimers in the spotlight.
well, I wish I could get into the wine business, but this country is to small and to far north.
Did Gary get a little p…?
QOTD:Yes, 998 wine variety,Annie Camarda Syrah being a Rhone head one must try syrah from around the world.

Great show, never drank a Solaia though I have a few laid down. QOTD: No, this one, O&S Horse Heaven Hills Cab Franc. Really enjoyed all these guests, each added to the show and made interesting comments and observations. Kudo’s!

On a side note, I’ll have to get some of that Rose, really enjoy a good rose in the summer here in Florida.

qotd 1: I hope not. It would be very embarrassing to own the Jets.
qotd 2: All quite good. 997. Because.
qotd 3: Had a Charles Smith Kung Fu girl the other night.

  • Last Washington Wine I had was Hollywood Hills Vineyards Pinot Noir.

Julius really impressed me with his thoughtful reasoned comments. No rush to judgement which I appreciate. Dave and Gary (GRE) for saying what they liked and sticking to it. I lol when GRE Gary ask GV for a list of wines. Good job!

  • BuffaloLou

    Another terrific ep!

winestein’s QofD: 2006 Soos Creek Columbia Valley “Red Wine” (Thanks to OttawaB for the “Jan. 9-15th …. Washington State Red Wines” thread!)

QOTD 1 – I actually think he will. Heck with his book sales he’ll be a billionaire in about 3 weeks.

QOTD 2 – I definitely like 998 best. The guests were much cooler. They weren’t attention starved and try to steal the show.

QOTD 3 – this is embarrassing, but I had a wine from the Washington Hills winery. I think it was the Cab and it was freaking awful.

Not much to say about this episode.

    Yours,

    B.S.

  • I agree with Buffalo Lou! Great show! Nice wines again.

qotds: 1.) I hope so! That is a guy I think might make the right decisions with that team.
2.) All of them were equally great. I liked all the variations with the vaunted producers, new to old world. Wrote a few down, so when I come up on some money I can try a bunch of them. In the meanwhile tasting vicariously through watching.
3.) Just attended a tasting with Chuck Smith at SilverLake Wines in LA, needless to say we tried a lot of the rock-star’s wines. Will blog about that at a later date! Love Washington.

    Thanks!

Brilliant. Brilliant “week”. Sorry for lack of comments. The Solaia nearly brought tears to my eyes. Lovely to see everybody really enjoying it even though it’s premature. In my opinion the descriptions indicate what makes greatness in wine: being able to accomodate light food, but at the same time having the power to match a burnt steak. It’s the same as greatness in any aspect of life. Not being one dimensional, but able to be world class in different situations.

QOTD1: No, but they will win the Superbowl one day (just as Liverpool will win the Premier League again). Men will cry.
QOTD2: All great. Just an amazing week.
QOTD3: Sorry, ages since I had one, but I promise to seek out Washington State soon!

So what happens now… Gary, you must give us some info on 1000!! My wife will kill me if I’m checking the site every 5 minutes.

Have a great weekend everybody 🙂

    Niels from Copenhagen, Denmark

P.S. drinking Orlando Abrigo Barbaresco which was recommended in 904, and I also highly recommend it!!

  • Tasted a few different vintages of it (most recently the ’07 at the Tre Bicchieri event) but haven’t sat down with a full bottle.

    Couldn’t comment at first, weird.

QOTD1: Gary WILL own the Jets one day
QOTD2: I think today was my favorite episode. I felt it was the most focused, less broken tasting due to smart-ass guests 😉
QOTD3: I’ve never had a Washington State wine outside of Columbia, but I’m a big fan of their work.

I’m dying to try the Solaia!

    stop spitting!!!!

If I could Facebook Like this episode I would. (Note: Not “Share”, but “Like”.)
    Good stuff.
Same with the rest of them this week.
Stoked to see what kind of thunder Episode 1,000 brings.
    Congrats GV!

  • Big round of applause for all of the forum guys who made it to WL for this week’s taping. You guys were awesome, and I’m even more upset that my schedule didn’t allow me to join you.

Dave, great showing on the rose, but that is no surprise — all of the Kaella wines rock!

  • Anonymous

    QOTD1: No
    QOTD2: 997!!! 😉
    QOTD3: L’Ecole Cab

  • Anonymous

#1: If he wants to, he will!
#2: I liked this one. I liked the variety of tasters, especially Julius’ command of his palate
#3: I’ve had some Charles Smith wines that are great QPR, my favorite has been K vintners Morrison Lane Syrah

PLEASE DON’T STOP AT 1,000!!!!!!! If you do, I’ll threaten to drink the same wine every night.

    Julius spits well!

GlassRunnethEmpty reminds me of paul giamatti’s friend in sideways. “what do you taste?” “It’s really good.”

Gary, you pronounce the “T” in claret???

“Not sure whether to spit in or on the jets bucket.” Classic!

Whether they like it or mott!

QOTD: This episode best in quotes, second one (9997) for roudiness, third (998) had the best noses.

  • #1: Hopefully
    #3: 08 Quilceda Creek Cabernet

  • Another fun show. It must have been special to try the Solaia.

    QOTD #1: No doubt, yes
QOTD #2: None were special to me. Very similar but fun to watch.
QOTD #3: Andrew Will, Chatter Creek Cab Franc and the delicious Amavi cab

    Cheers!

  • Little known fact: Gary already does own the Jets, but he is waiting until they win a super-bowl to reveal this fact. Another good group of winos.
Smell it first, then spill the wine. TR

  • can’t believe just 1 more episode til 1000! feel like i’ve been counting down to it since 501. what’s gonna happen?!?

  • QOTD:

#1. As a Patriots fan, I certainly hope not
#2. This one was best, a little crowded with 4 Vanyiacs, 3 worked better
#3. Big fan of Washington, have had Nicholas Cole Michelle, and Soos Creek Ciel du Cheval

95 points for the Solaia, what does it take for 96 from GV?

  • It has to be “family” what GV is all about is my guess.

  • NY Pete

    hey hey

  • QOTD 1: YES! I actually do believe that.
    QOTD 2: Can’t pick one.
QOTD 3: Kung Fu Girl Riesling.

  • NY Pete

    Kaella in da house!

  • NY Pete

contrary to what you told me last night, WTG Dave!

  • NY Pete

    Groucho in da house!

  • QOTD1: Hell yeah. I hope so. Gary would be like the, uhm, Mark Cuban of the NFL.
QOTD2: I think I enjoyed the Napa Cab Mob the most. They seemed to mock each other the most.
QOTD3: Never had a Washington State wine. Unavailable on The Rock.

  • NY Pete

WTF is up with all this spitting … 😛

  • Anonymous

I was chewing double mint gum, so when I say “good”, I was referring to the gum.

  • NY Pete

    WTG J MAN!

  • NY Pete

Spitting aside … great show gentlemen.

  • NY Pete

    someday, someway … yes.

tough question Groucho, I’ll get back to you.

a great meritage made by … Kaella.
