EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

  • Thanks, GV. Sorry for the whining, but we’re suffering from withdrawals (and not from alcohol). Glad to hear that you are on it!

At least for me, change never is easy; but I respect how you follow your passion were ever it may lead you. Go for for! Thanks.

Disenfranchised 😉 We don’t fit the demographic.

  • We love you too Gary from all of us here at Virginia Tech!!!! Thanks for giving us new crazy descriptors, great wine suggestions, helping expand and challenge the way we look at wine, and always teaching us new things. You have been a part of that for all us new wine drinker Hokies, Thanks Gary V we look forward to seeing you!!!!!

  • Cheers Gary, the best is yet to come!

Gary, I pray that God will continue to shower his blessings on you and on your new endeavor.

Well, I for one just don’t see how Gary can evade or avoid paying for the ‘couch’ time you so obviously need to get over your loss 😉 Look, the answer is to go over to the daily grape en mass and take back control of the forum that we had 🙂 Everybody knows that the ‘techies’ can’t stand confrontation so it should be an easy coup. Are ya with me Bucko?

    Time flies. Thanks a 1000.

GV, you’re way too easy. The old WLTV crowd has figured out that the way to get you to comment on their comment is to rag you. Don’t you know that they’re wine crackheads when it comes to you. They aren’t going anywhere! Find you’re groove although you shouldn’t have to look very far. Just glance back at the last 900 or so episodes.

  • lets reset time at dailygrape.com

  • hope we see u over at dailygrape.com

  • Gotta use a wine analogy, right? I loved the ?balance? WLTV had.

Great QPR considering the production cost. It brought the thunder by combining the high energy GV style with some humor as part of the ?initial attack?. The solid ?mid-palette? of wine tastings where he gave himself enough time to try out descriptions to help communicate with the audience and double back at times to provide more context -that gave the eps a ?solid mouth feel?. And I appreciated WLTV?s ?long finish?, some education, some very human off-topic musings. It had a nice, friendly, feel. Loved to pour a glass, lean back, and watch it on the 21″ monitor.

GV?s claim is that the Daily Grape is “tighter”, but thus far, to my palette, the dominant profile I?m picking up is that it?s more “rushed and frenetic” ? an intriguing “nose, but a ?hollow mid-palette? and nothing to the “finish”. Maybe it’s just growing pains, but the there are going to be some limits to the shorter format, especially if 10 to 15% is going to be taken up with intro and promotion of books or newsletters or the venue being visited.

It?s just my palette, but rather than 5 ten-minute long DGs each week, I?d lean more to 3 WLTV eps a week at 17 to 20 minutes so things wouldn?t be so rushed, there?d be time for the occasional 4 brown bags, a sports rant, etc. DG seems more like chugging a beer than savoring a wine. Let?s hope DG evolves and matures into something more memorable in the cellar.

  • I understand it’s still early days for DG and I’m still checking it out, hoping it comes through & you find a way to fit your WLTV groove into the shorter format. In the meanwhile, I’m just offering my initial tasting notes on DG. Maybe it just needs to be decanted for a while. Haven’t given it a Pazzzz, yet.

  • I love your show, it’s taught me so much about wine. I hope you come to Virginia Tech!!

So how the hell were these bubbles?!?! I hope somebody got to drink it.

  • Come to Virginia Tech!

  • Thanks Gary!

    GV:

Look, if you’re looking for sycophants, you’ve got the wrong audience. And, keep surrounding yourself with those folks and you’ll be an unhappy guy sooner than you’d like to be. Surround yourself with folks who know and can evaluate you in terms of your history. That’s me. Here I’m calling balls and strikes. You’ve got PLENTY of folks slapping you on the back, congratulating you, and also (not so covertly) looking to get a piece of you. Me, I don’t want a piece. I want to be educated, and entertained. When you fail to do that, I’ll let you know. I have invested HUNDREDS of hours at this point. Why? Because when you do what you do well, you are both educational and entertaining. But, like all of us, you don’t do this all the time. And when you get off track, I (and others) will let you know. Your interview in the second episode was rushed, and weird, and appeared disrespectful. Go back and watch it. You look like you’ve got somewhere more important to be. That’s weird and uncomfortable viewing. You want interaction with folks, it’s not all going to be congratulatory. Sometimes people are going to tell you what they think, even if they didn’t think you did that well. The Daily Grape Episodes have gotten a little better, but your new format (i.e., devoting less time to shows), still feels rushed and awkward. Also, still no forum interaction. For a guy that was about “building a community,” this part of the daily grape seems to be an after thought – certainly not something you were thinking about when designing the platform. Had you been, you wouldn’t have launched this way.

    Cheers,
    ~TSL

  • Just checking in to see who may be around.

I’m here brother. I am always checking! 🙁

  • John__J

I’m right there with you guys

  • miss the “Thunder Show” and the interaction with Mott and everyone….

  • Anonymous

I’m with you and I am over there also! I will split my time on both and as soon as Gary gets his shit together on the comment section at the DG, then and only then will we be able to take back what is rightfully ours! 😉 I have also noticed that the comments over at DG has been dropping, so you are right “Your Royal Highness” we will take back what is ours. 🙂

  • its all good JROb….daily grape is a bit different. No Mott. No Jets stuff. No wrestling figurines (maybe Gary can stuff one in his travel bag)….but it’s still good stuff.

Well said TSL! I too feel the major rush from Gary. In episode #5 I commented on that very thing. He is WAY too rushed like he has to be somewhere and not caring at all. Great call TSL! 😉

  • nice! haven’t checked out DailyGrape yet, but i will soon. thanks Gary!

You’ve done this for 1000 shows! Come on, have you forgotten everything you’ve taught us just by moving to a new venue? Just do what has come naturally for those first 1000. 😉

  • Anonymous

I’m sure you meant ‘take back what is yours, Your Royal Highness’ 😉 I’ll consider it a mere slip of the tongue.

    Dear Gary,

Thank you so much for everything. Wine Library TV is something I look forward to each and every day. I hope you do not cut the format too short, because I simply cannot get enough and 6-8 minutes seems all too short.

Wine Library TV has had an enormous impact in my life. I have watched 1,000 episodes, and you and Mott and the show have given so much to me. Thank you.

Episode 1,000 was devastating: like a eulogy. It was not the celebration that I had always pictured. I wish you continued success in all of your endeavors and will continue to support you. Much happiness to you and your family, and success to your beloved team.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
    All the best, Chukheadted

Just us “new” and “old” Vayniacs, trying to salvage what is left of a once thriving and dedicated community of wine nerds 😉 Theoretically there will be sporadic “phoenix” moments for WLTV, but who knows when that will be!

  • Anonymous

Agreed, I am sure Gary and his people are doing their best to work on it; but I don’t know if it will be the same.

  • Anonymous

I could not agree more with all of your sentiments. Hopefully things will change, and I am still watching over there; but I have to say I honestly miss the style of WLTV.

  • Anonymous

And obviously the way to get your goat is Meta complaining, and disparaging in general about the new format, regardless of what social medium of communication we use 😉

To keep this site active it’s time to evolve this forum …. to all WLTV dieHARDS out there.

Going forward and on every future WLTV episode posted when you post/shout out add a P.S. Our own question of the day so to speak.

Reference TTF (To The Faithful) …. Here you share your thoughts on your last wine tasted, your last great dinner experience, your last great wine related ????? We start with this episode until a new one is posted.

Thoughts or other idea’s ? Any traction here??

I genuflect at your nobleness “Your Royal Highness”! I will never forget again. 😛

Rock on Brother!!!!! GD loves DG…!!!!!!!!!

  • Sounds good to me.

  • Good to hear, me too. We need to come up with a plan to try and find a way to keep the Vayner Nation intact with some insight into new wines, appellations, food & wine pairings, heck, even the ongoing NFL crisis. Whatever you want to talk about.

I was thinking maybe each of us could whip up a small video and taste two or three wines and post it to YouTube and “comment” on it? I dunno. Just want to maintain my interaction with all the fine people that I have grown to know and love.

    Any ideas welcomed.

If it matters, I am having a few glasses of this tonight. http://www.apothic.com/ Talk about a fruit bomb! Mercy but what fun it is to have on a Wed night watching Survivor and DG.

    Cheers to all Vayniacs!!!!!

  • Thanks Bro.

  • its gonna be better than that NWI

  • Kmurph

we toasted with it after the taping. Very tasty stuff!
