EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

What happened to Mott ? Just saw DG for the first time …. Talk about a rush job. Slow down GV.

The DG show had this overriding coldness vibe although it could be due to my comfort level with the show being shot at WL. That home location gave it an associated vibe of having a home to welcome the audience into. Also, the show now comes across more about making a buck than about making the audience part of the experience. This in turn leads to less Thunder.
Like the Golden days of the 49 ers or any other football dynasty, the days of this wine show (DG) being “on top of your game” are limited.
Hopefully it can retool and come up with a more inviting format. If it does it may have a shot, although I think it will be hard due to the shows time constraint. Who thinks DG will kick out 300 shows before it stops production?
Yes, I know it’s only been about 8 shows, but I will still stand with my first impression of the show.

TTF . Had the 2002 Spottswoode this year and would have to say that 96-97 pts is correct. It’s at the peak drinking window with that window being open for the next 2-4 years It will lose its mid pallete after this point. A wine to experience and the top Spottswoode produced in the last 12 years. Waiting to drink my 2007 allotment.

Having the Altumura 2007 tonight and I’d give it 93-94 pts, drinking well right now. Will be at its peak in 3-5 years.

Had the Scarecrow 2006 a few day back and I’d give that 90-91 pts. The wine is way to young to drink now. If I had some more I’d wait 4-6 years so that it could round out. It was better the next day, but still this wine will not top 93 pts.

tennis, your assessment is right on, but GV has been getting better as the shows progress. It just so happened that his being on the road had to do with his book tour and coincided with his opening DG. I’m sure he had a lot on his mind and places he had to be which in turn explained his rushy performance. He will be back at the homefront this week I’m sure and that “Laid Back” style should come back.

There are things with the new site that needs to be changed and I believe they are working on them. I will keep on them though, as will “TTF”. Change is hard and we are all going through those pains together. As time goes on that newness will wear off and us “TTF” should be right back in our slot. Thanks for the ratings. πŸ˜‰

Well I think the last two episodes on DG show it is improving, but I think the problem is with Gary, being on the road, missing the family, being tired he brings a different vibe to the DG than WLTV. I get the feeling his comfort zone is at the Wine Library, not some unknown bar or hotel room, and it shows and is understandable. All I know is that I hope to see a WLTV guest show in the near future……

Peanut butter spread to thin has no flavor……..All you taste is the bread.

my QOTD … Butler or VCU

  • Butler

  • If we could do it, I’m in but make sure GV doesn’t mind. It’s his bandwidth and site we would be using though promoting him 100%

  • Agree with you NW. I need hugs now more than ever. πŸ™ And on top of that, RandiInTheCity doesn’t come by to liven up the joint. πŸ˜‰

Tell me again the difference between DG and WLTV ? Why did we stop production here and rename the same show DG. Is it app deal. Why not have the WLTV app? Seems to me this site could have been retro fitted.

Comments section at DG is a cold dark place.

TTF … Question, How long before GV breaks the 9.59 barrier at DG?. My bet is under 30 show and then it will go longer from there. Also, under 50 shows before he ask the audience if they want a longer format, want more brown bag shows, want more guest, want more/want less ???? I’m toying around with the idea of ???

    Ride the wave Butler ….

No episode 1001, No buying the Thank You Economy πŸ˜‰

  • well, I guess it is a lot of comments on DG, actually a lot more then the last year on WLTV (with a couple of excpetions), but not much interactive, but that is coming I’m told.

And yes Gary is sort of holding true to his promises only in about 70% of the time, but that’s his charm, sort of. It’s hard to anticipate his next move, which is fun :).

  • ΓΆh, lost me there. What are VCU in chioce between a butler or…?

  • Congrats Gary! You are an inspiration for so many of us.

My QOTD … UConn or Kentucky

Hopefully he will get requests for more guest shows and then come back over here sometime soon. He did mention that he might do a show once a week on WLTV, or he also said once a year. Hopefully it will be more than less.

TTF: How many people think that DG will end up turning into a surrogate WLTV? And how many people think that the new technologically drive boost in comments and viewing will eventually die down? Just trying to troll the waters a little…

  • Anonymous

I thought he had already. I’ll have to go back and check again and if he hadn’t it will be sooner than that. πŸ˜›

  • Anonymous

I have already posted that it will start to dwindle as soon as the newness wears off and then we will be back in the driver seat once again. πŸ˜‰

  • Anonymous

My heart, Butler, but my head, VCU! πŸ˜›

  • Anonymous

You know I have seen her at DG popping in from time to time. πŸ™‚

  • Anonymous

Yeah, he did. I think it might have been the first or second episode. AJ wanted him to cut it down to 3-5 minutes or some crazy thing like that!! I would not have been interested in watching at all if that had happened.

  • Guys it will never happen, I love you guys here with all my heart but I am sad u cant support me over “there” we are all one community, reading these comments daily breaks my heart. I am so sorry but I am gonna stick it out or stop but never go back to the WLTV format πŸ™ I will do interviews here, 10-15 max a year …

  • Rwino I think the shows at DG are getting much better, I felt the vibe of WLTV dying the last year because I was taping 5 shows ahead, I may not be as comfortable YET but it will come, promise u that!

Working only one day a week a WL? πŸ™‚ I’m sure you will get it down pat on DG, just don’t rush the episodes so much. I would rather see a more relaxed longer one every other day than a rushed one every day. Maybe you can find a happy medium. Drinking an 08 Round Pond that was opened yesterday, good stuff… Try it!

  • Surprised DG was launched when the web page and app were SO FAR AWAY from being ready for prime time. Doesn’t say much for the quality of the Vayner Brand now, does it?

I like dailygrape just fine, but you’ve kind of turned into a pure wine critic over there. I watched WLTV as an educational tool. I guess you’ve covered just about everything there is on here, but I hope there’s some obscure region focus over there. I have faith though, keep on keeping on.

  • John__J

Personally, outside of missing Mott, I like Dailygrape as much as WLTV.

I see no reason why Gary wouldn’t or won’t have or talk about obscure
wines/varietals/regions (which is the stuff I enjoy the most.)
It seems pretty much like WLTV on the road. If that’s the case, it would seem more likely if he’s traveling around that there would be the opportunity for him to have wines on you wouldn’t see on WLTV. There’s plenty of wines out there that don’t make it into Jersey (just like everywhere else).
You can now reply to people over there too, you can’t click “like”, but you’re pretty much able to interact as much there, it seems to me, now as you can here, if not more.
I seem to remember the complaint Gary acknowledged the most from viewer’s was his having too many guests on. That’s something he’s not doing over at Dailygrape (I’m hoping Gary won’t be counting Sasha as a guest so he can still pop in occasionally).
Plus for those times there will be a guest, it’ll be over here which I hear Gary saying he estimates to be about 10-15 a year. That number seems to me to be about as many guests as a lot of viewer’s want anyway.
So like I said, besides not having Mott behind the camera as much, I’m pretty much as happy with the Grape as I am the Library.
It’s not like they closed down comments over here, so we still have the community we have over here which we wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for Gary to begin with.

  • John__J

And while we’re waiting for our next WLTV episode, I’m all for NY Pete taking over for Gary when it comes to him doing a QOTD.

  • u think? u know how it is? I also wanted to timw with 1000, I agree but there is more than meets the eye

  • u think? I felt there was a lot going on over there? πŸ™ will try harder

  • thnx jj

  • Gary,

I’m digging Daily Grape. I completely respect your decision to do it and to start something new again to be excited about. I love the wish list, the different locations, and the hiccups in these early stages. I have been a WLTV fan since episode 297, but I am not nolstagiac. Just keep it going. Loved TYE, sent it to my boss to read.

Then it will be …. what ever will be will be ….. Sad that you now think that the WLTV format has lost it’s Thunder when it fact it was a big part of your Thunder. Not that you need it, but I wish you all the luck in the world at DG. I’m just not connecting, especially with all the overt commercialism at the site. Hummm … Crush It & Thank You Economy books all over the shelves ??? Maybe that will work for your audience that is under 30 …..

Just so you know GV I do support you, I have bought my fair share of wine from WL. In fact I will be reviewing for TTF my shipment(s) of San Ramon Toro 2004 and then tackle the Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyards 2005 Cab … πŸ˜‰ I even think I have a copy of your Crush it book on my shelf.

To the TTF .. My prediction is that by losing the audience connection to Mott, Kmurph, Sasha, a guest, or ??? will be a game changer for GV at DG. Thoughts????

Also, I now think we have an official race. Can we TTF get to 1000 comments before Episode 1001 is posted ??? …… This is all in good fun people …

My prediction is … YES πŸ˜‰

  • Anonymous

G, please don’t think we don’t support you over at DG, because we back you 100%! We the TTF just choose to use WLTV to vent and keep in touch with the TTF. You know us we are just as passionate about DG because of you. We just have to have that comfort level also and we are getting there. You have to give us some time also. πŸ˜‰

  • From the perspective of a guy who watches on a laptop or desktop and has an Android phone, the perceived quality VaynerBrand has taken a hit with the WLTV to DG transition. You’ve seen the issues… far far less functionality in the comments section, jerky video playback on IE (but not Firefox) for some, no Android app, etc., etc., … Heck, I don’t even see a password recovery option for those who might forget their password but want to sign-in using their usual email address. That’s what I mean as not ready for Prime Time. Plain and simple, I expected more from folks who market themselves as being experts in this stuff at VaynerMedia. Frankly, the DG launch experience has dissuaded me from pursuing an inclination I had to explore contacting VaynerMedia about an upcoming project. No hate – just being honest.
Seems like you’re counting on the iPhone novelty and Vaniac loyalty to tide you over as you request patience… Kind of ironic, given how quickly your loyalty to Vinnie T #16 vanished when he moved from one venue to another some years ago.

  • UConn in an ugly game.

  • UConn

Didn’t their coach cheat? Wait, that was Kentucky’s coach too? Just hope Butler or VCU wins it all.

    Cheers!

  • Butler big >> 10 pts.

  • Good news NW πŸ˜‰

  • NY Pete

My QOTD … is GV ready for prime time?

  • In the world of wine, by all means, he’s the pinnacle of prime time.

  • John__J

Wow if you’re talking about tv, I really hope not.

  • Anonymous

    Nope.
