EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

Found an awesome wine today at a great price. Life is good.

  • John__J

Haven’t had our own qotd on here for a while

  • Lisa S

Oh my goodness, The ’82 for $675?? Wow what a markup at the restaurant!!! Maybe they had two bottles and can’t remember??? 🙂

  • Lisa S

    What did you find, John?

  • Lisa S

To my fellow Pinot Noir Lovers –
Here is my recommendation for the day/week/month:

Folk Machine 2009 The Crooner Pinot Noir..
This is from Mendocino, CA. This reminds me of Black Kite pinot noir “lite.” Recommended by wine guys at Beltramo’s in Menlo Park. $22 plus tax and only 250 cases made. I just bought 4 more bottles. My favorite pinot at this price point. Not a fruit bomb.. earthy, spicy, and nice fruit.

BTW: I tried the Sean Minor 4 Bears last week ($15) not a fan.. Tastes like cough syrup.
    🙂

I don’t splurge often. It was a Chateau Belle Brise 2005 from Pomerol. The Chateau only has 2 hectares under vine (less than 5 acres). So the production is tiny, very little hits the U.S. (I did some price comparisons when I came home and they were all ones for sale in Europe and Asia.)
Anyway the vines are 100 meters from Petrus. Supposed to be killer stuff. I’ve wanted one for a while. My last place had the 03 and the 05, but we could only get 3 bottles each allocated to us so the owner wouldn’t let me purchase one. Steal on the price too, I’m sure that has a lot to with it not having name recognition due to its tiny production.

Pretty lucky find, doesn’t happen to me often. They had 2 bottles left. I wonder how many people have walked by those bottles without recognizing them and had no idea what they just passed by.

That’s the style of pinot I gravitate towards the most too. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Boy, GV must be watching your every move Dominus. This isn’t the first time he has plagiarized your writings! 😉

  • Anonymous

Me likes my Pinot and this looks delectable! May have to go shop’n! 😉

  • Lisa S

That’s terrific! Congrats.. How often does that happen? Not often enough! I suppose we won’t get a review anytime soon since you’ll cellar it for a while?

  • Anonymous

Lisa, thank you for your review of the evening. You and tennispro did the evening justice in your writings. I just wish we all could have been there to enjoy the festivities! Was the evening formal attire? Just curious. 😉

  • Anonymous

tennispro, thanks for your evenings renderings. Totally enjoyed every minute of yours and LisaS writings. That 82 La Mission Haut Brion I would have loved to have a sip, sounds delectable. Even if Dominus burst your bubble on the price point. It was the evening and the company that made it all worth the while. I wouldn’t have minded the $1600 myself because of the time the place and the people! 😉

  • Lisa S

Thank you, Dan. One of these days, we’ll have our own TTF get-together and I’ll bring the ’01 Dominus or something comparable. The attire was a mix of semi-formal, cocktail, business attire.. One of the guys I know showed up with a sweater over his surgical scrubs (no time to change his clothes). I hate it when that happens. I have pics on facebook.. Or I could send you a couple of pics?

I’ll have to have my sister pick some up at beltramos if they still have some left. Thanks for the tip Lisa S 😉

  • Anonymous

    Whatcha got for us 😉

  • Anonymous

Sweet !!! post the review 😉

  • Anonymous

Yes I did watch it !!!! Loved it.

…… Boy Borg had it going, on at every level, during those times. He was my hero growing up.

I’m glad to find out that they had a friendship during that time much like Federer and Nadal.

  • Anonymous

Of course he is … It sure seems like there is some carry over from TTF banter 😉

  • Anonymous

I’m sure your right on the QPR !!!!!! 😉 I must confess thou that I do live to experience wine greatness whenever I can and in this case being comped was icing on the cake for this great evening of Dominus wines. I wish you and all the Faithful could have been there. 😉

Next time any of you are in the Bay Area drop me a line 😉

  • Lisa S

I’ll have to watch this since everyone is talking about it. I liked Borg as well …umm… for different reasons I’m sure. 😉

  • concerning leaving the sport really early, I think those two guys actually where the first ones that had trained and play from an early age and trainers and parents didn’t know that you have to give some thought to other things too, a life outside the sport. Borg for instance quit school at 16 for playing tennis full time, a bad move in hindsight

  • and since I asked SVT (Swedish national television) they replied that due to copyright resaons HBO cannot sell it to them and we might miss this documentary. I think I have to do something to get it. Maybe my brother could digit and send it to me .)

  • I will seek this out. Does GV carry it? I will go check now.

  • I can find a way to get it to you. Let me work on it.

  • Same route for Agassi.

  • Exactly. The one redeeming factor of the movie was they were and remained friends after they left the game. Took a long time for McEnroe to say “I love you too” to Borg but given McEnroe, it was kind of expected.

  • 😉 Ummm lemme guess. His flowing blonde locks?

  • You noticed that too? 😉

  • I had a ton of stuff but nothing memorable. I need to change that pronto.

  • Lisa S

Probably not. You can order from Beltramo’s, although website is clumsy.. may be easier to order over the phone.

  • Lisa S

If they don’t, you can order from Beltramo’s.. Website can be clumsy (I don’t order online since I live down the street from them). May be easier to order over the phone. 🙂

  • Lisa S

    Oui 🙂
I watched Fire and Ice last night. Good show. (thank goodness for HBO on-demand). Borg still looks good! McEnroe seems to have matured nicely.

  • He bought them back? Well, that’s good news.

Obviously, he wasn’t thinking especially when he took a boatload of sleeping pills, his business ventures, women, the list goes on and on. He’s still a tennis martyr to me.

  • Let the man save them a bit 2005 pomerol, hmm 2015 I say 🙂

  • Borg is a average dude when it comes to business and he had some really bad advisers in his early days. When it was told that he had to sell the trophyes people raised money to buy them, but in the end he was persuaded not to sell. maybe some money was in there I dont know.

  • Todays wine review:
Rocca delle Macie Chianti Classico 2006 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Merlot. Artery blood red with a crimson touch, almost see through.

Sniffy sniff reveal deep berry and plum fruits, a rich almost south rhone character of that, then some nice spice and oak integrated with dusty chocolate.
The flavour is semifull-bodied , red and dark fruit with chalky components, mid palate has firm tannins ? dry in character. Back end
with more deep berry and spice to match. Long dry choco dust and oak finish. On the verge of an oak monster. Dry is the word. 88 p

Aired the wine one hour befrore drinking and served at room temparture. I think that was good since it smelled really good.

Had it with a risotto with prosciuotto and asparagus. Not the best pairing, This wine could easily had a steak as company. The risotto was good anyway, yum.

  • @NWID — Where’s the “Dislike” buttons? Lisa is having issues with her postings!!!!!

  • Lisa S

Interesting.. Well, that’s not what he said on “Fire and Ice”.. He said that he auctioned off the trophies and NOT because he needed the money. He said he didn’t know why he did it, but later ended up buying them back at higher price ..and added that it was not a smart business deal.

  • I will try now and let you know the results.

  • Lisa S

I love the “artery” blood red comment! Risotto sounds yummy.. I sure wish we lived closer to you so that we could pop in now and then for dinner. 🙂

  • Lisa S

    You’re the best, D.

  • Lisa S

Okay, now I’ve heard everything.. Unbelievable!

  • well, if that was his story OK. Papers here in Sweden may be told it wrong. I recall that he said he sold it partly because he had no attchment to them.

  • lots of folks say that when I cook thursday three course meals, I wonder why? 😀

  • I may need to take a ride up to Baltimore after tennis on Saturday to snatch up one of those bottles. 😉

    Thanks for the tip John.

  • Lisa S

    TTF:

Have any of you tried this Chianti?
    http://winelibrary.com/wines/58172-2006+Livernano+Chianti+Classico+750ML

I liked the label and score so I bought a couple of bottles from WL,which arrived today with Tiefenbrunner pinot grigio. I suppose I should have asked you before I bought it. If you’ve tried it and didn’t like it, let me know and I’ll give it to some poor unsuspecting soul. 🙂

  • No havent had that, but 2006 was a fairly good year so…
