EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

  • I know I shouldn’t mull or fret over it. There are bigger issues in our daily lives such as which wine to pour each night. 😉

  • I would crawl through broken glass to have a glass of Sea Smoke with you my dear. 😉

My comment to “fly 1st class” was based on the inference that whoever “wins” that 1/2 bottle of Krug will need to procure their own transportation to pick up the bottle at Bar Henry. I was saying that if the “grand prize” was a glass of Sea Smoke with Lisa, I would pay for a 1st class ticket for the opportunity. I guess it didn’t translate that well last night when I transcribed my thoughts. By that time, I had put a major dent into a bottle of Oregon pinot that was absolutely delicious. So my apologies.

  • Lisa S

😉 No apology necessary, Dom. I was teasing you! (I couldn’t resist.) And I completely missed the inference about the Krug! So much for multi-tasking while watching DG.

    The PN sounds lovely.

  • Lisa S

    OK that’s not bad. 🙂

  • I’m in trouble now. There are at times a cupcake, pizza, or Mexican food trucks parked outside my building at lunchtime but now this will be coming to my ‘hood soon!!! 🙂

In my youth I used to call this “The Black Death.”

    Cheers!

  • Wow. Intense. Good for you for hitting 1000, and look forward to checking out the new project. [I know, I’m behind…]

  • John__J

    Holy smokes!

  • John__J

Gerard Betrand Viognier. If you can find it, it’s well worth the q.p.r.

  • Lisa S

Bubbles baby!! A cava truck? How crazy is that?? (I’m jealous).
    🙂

  • Lisa S

You taught him those moves???? Is that the pinot talking? 😉

  • Lisa S

Will keep that in mind! Thx for tip, John.

I just opened a rose of pinot noir (Testarossa Novitiate). I liked this wine at the winery in Los Gatos when I visited last summer..but something happened to this bottle in the meantime because I just poured it down the drain.. Not good! Next: 2008 Grgich Hills Fume blanc. A little better. Did I mention how hot it is here in SF Bay Area??? It’s hot, hot, hot! No A/C and it is 86 degrees in my apt. 😐 I’m melting.. Seriously, this could be my last post. 🙂

  • Dominus we have done a ton of giveaways on WLTV through the years, I hope the “commercialization” thing doesnt upset u, I wanted to do something nice for the peeps that got the newsletter, I am not becoming rich off of it

  • John__J

Sounds like you need an Icewine Lisa!
Let us know what you think of the Fume Blanc

  • NY Pete

    what is going on?

  • NY Pete

    where’s SS Chris?

  • NY Pete

    KaD … insert it here

  • Lisa S

🙂 Good one, John. The Grgich Fume Blanc is pretty good. As it states on the bottle..it’s dry and full bodied, crisp, some grapefruit.. not too green or grassy which kills it for me. I prefer the Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre at this price point.

I called that one on one of the first DG episodes 😉 BTW is Sea Smoke worth the price of admission ? Never had one. Also to Lisa S, I just saw the Roar at 50 …. what was beltramos price ?

    TTF 😉

  • Lisa S

It was $50 for Roar Gary’s Vineyard, but ROAR SLH is about $40.

I’ll defer to Dom on whether it’s worth the price of admission. 😉 Might be worth checking out WLTV episode 291. Gary does a good job explaining Sea Smoke. It’s definitely new world and fruit forward. I love it. However, I would not pay more than the release price.. Markup can be high, especiallly on past vintages (price can double). They have three offerings: Botella (light $45), Southing (med $55) and Ten ($65 full body-intense). I’ve had Southing, but have a bottle of “Ten” lying down. I’ve purchased the 2009 offerings but won’t receive it until the fall.

  • Same ole my man without GV talking to us on the screen up there. ^^^

Drinking a myriad of wines, chatting about said wine and about life in general.

    You?

    P.S. We ain’t leavin’!

  • I will definitely try and find it. I adore Viognier.

I’m having a Park Ridge Chenin Blanc/Vignier blend right now. Tasty in this 100 degree weather.

  • I believe the last time I had a Grgich Hills was their Chardonnay moons ago in their tasting room in Napa. At that time, it was by far my fav CA chard on that trip. I remember being in the tasting room and a group of drop-dead gorgeous ladies stopped by to taste. Dom was in dual heaven. I kept returning for more. 😉

  • Of course! 😉

  • There he is. No, no, it doesn’t upset me but thanks for the thoughts. I think its somewhat expected so don’t take my comments personal or the wrong way. I apologize.

    Cheers!

P.S. Thanks for letting us hang over here and babble away. We all appreciate it.

  • John__J

I hear you, I like summer but that’s too hot for me. Sorry I didn’t get tasting notes on the viognier, I didn’t have the time. It’s 11.99 wholesale so it should be close to $20 when it hits stores. Their wines were released into MD & DC for the time this month. All from the Southern France area. They have one from the Tautavel AOC, a region I had never heard of before. Their pinot is really good for the price too. (I know a pinot from S. France that’s really good! I was a little taken aback.)

  • John__J

ditto what Dom said on the thx for letting us continue to chat over here. We’re going to take the comments on this episode to at least 5 figures!

  • John__J

qotd: What will happen next over at DG (if, and) when it hits its 1000th episode?

(just a curious question, not a “let’s stir the pot” question at all.)

  • I’m staying out of this one. 🙂

  • I think it is but will defer to Lisa and her expert palate. Anything hard to find is good right? 🙂

  • Geez, without seeing your reply I said the same thing! Now that is eerie!!!

  • You took the words out of my mouth. I will defer to you. 🙂

  • Lisa S

Smart move. Me too. (sorry John J)!

  • Lisa S

Wow!!! Eerie indeed. Great minds.. what else can I say? 😉

  • Anonymous

It will not happen …… but if it did it would become weekly juice or something like that 😉 He’s gotta stay in the wine game somehow 😉

Hey, haven’t we been doing our own QOTD day over here for awhile ???? wonder where that idea came from about the community integration …. awwww maybe i’m reaching 🙂

TTF ….. way to bring it.

P.S. just ordered & now have some flora springs reserve cab franc coming 😉 me happy !

  • Anonymous

  • I’m really behind in tasting wine compared to you guys. I guess I work to much and there is no end in sigt, well there is, 31 of august I take my vacation…
Hope to be posting som review during the next three days. Friday is a Midsummers eve, a national holiday, all peeps rushing to there summer house or to a festivity ground somewhere in the landcape to eat pickled herring, new potatoes, sour creme and chives and slosh that down with humongous quantities of vodka and beer.
