EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

You’re right, it wasn’t much of a conversation. I can see why you’re upset. πŸ™

  • OK sorry I’m late to the party but wtf is going on? I’m at the beach enjoying a 08 Chinon from Bernard Baudry “Les Grezeaux” and I see my man NY Pete is upset. I need to catch up.

    Cheers for what it’s worth

  • John__J

Yeah I would buy it. But if there’s wine geeks or wine nerds, I’m a wine weirdo. I’ll pick up virtually any wine that’s under $20 if it’s from a country or varietal I’ve never had before.

  • John__J

Wow Pete, you were temporarily suspended over saying only THAT?! I’d bet that other guy definitely got the same suspension if not more if not banned for good.
Yeah if I were you I’d be really irritated.

I was wondering the other day if those Forums were still going on. I went in there a few times, but ended up just staying here for the most part.

  • John__J

Wait he’s still over there chatting? How in the world did you get a suspension and he didn’t. Seems absurd based on the conversation between you two that you typed above. How is saying growing a pair or saying your having your balls busted worse than saying to mind your own F-ing business? Makes no sense.

  • Wines at the Beach

After an 8 hour trip in my new ride I stopped by my old haunt, The Native Vine lady/wine chick turned me on to an 08 Bernard Baudry Chinon and a 09 Pascal Jolivet Poully Fume. I also bought one of those tetra paks of Redwood Creek Pinot that I can sip at the beach like a juice box. πŸ˜‰

The Chinon has major barnyard characteristics and the Pouilly is delightful though I should have chosen my own selections. Oh well. More choices and reviews to come.

  • Lisa S

Yeah, I would trust your palate over the wine chick’s too. πŸ˜‰
Have fun in Duck, N.C. I’ve heard nice things.

  • Thanks my dear. Yes, I just poured the Chinon down the drain. Not my style. I should have gone with my “gut.” Too many choices to succumb to “sheep’s butt.” πŸ™‚

  • NY Pete

that John is justice according to Chris Mott.

  • NY Pete

thanks bro, it’s just a very minor bump in the road.

    life most definitely goes on.

  • Even if your banned? πŸ™‚

  • I’ll pop by the store on the way home from work. Let you know.

  • That would be fun! πŸ˜‰

  • I have not heard of it but sure sounds inviting.

  • One can always learn something new in the wine world. Bought me a chardonnay from Peru today. Fact search online enlightend me a bit.
INTIPALKA Bodega Queirolo Queirolo Vineyards. Obvioulsy started in 1880? Wow is the fact on that. The place where i grows is called INTIPALKA (means “Valley of the Sun”) is located in an exceptional area for growing grapes. 300 km from Lima, 600 meters above sea level and 40 miles from the Pacific coast. The proximity to the Andes an important temperature range, supplemented by up to 20 degrees between day and night, through the sunny desert climate of the area.

The wine is light golden in color. The nose is kind of stinky sulphur with hints of green banana and peach. Some barrel, I think: The stink is a bit intrusive.

Taste is citrus peel, dry, a bit of mango, fresh mid palate but falls of at the end. A bit bitter and watery short finish. Works alright chilled, not so good in room temperature

  • Jason Robbins

This show will be part of the history of Social Media. Gary you are as “stand up” as they come. I wish you health and happiness. – yojason.

  • So this is where the cool kids still hang out. πŸ™‚ Are you still on DG Pete? I’m surprised I’m not banned there….yet. πŸ˜›

  • Lisa S

Melba!! I wish you would pop in more often. At least you would help me balance out the testosterone levels over here. πŸ˜‰

They will never ban you from DG. NYPete, however, may be on a self-imposed exile from DG. Hopefully it won’t last very long.

TTF …. What was the last book that you read ???? I just ordered “The 4 hour workout” (Diet Book) at Barnes and Noble. Saw this featured on Dr OZ and had to look into it some more. Also was passing by the latest TIME mag about Albert Einstien, at the local grocery store, and I just had to get it. πŸ˜‰

Just ordered a few bottles of Beringer 2007 Reserve Cab. Hope to review this weekend πŸ˜‰

Keep up your postings boys and girls πŸ˜‰

My next concert is The English Beat and The Fixx in Napa at the Uptown Theatre. Wonder if I should combine that with a wine tasting ? …. Caymus, Phelps, Opus One, here I come !!!

    Any concert plans ??

TTF … Will GV use any of these questions (Last book read, next concert) for the Questions of the Day over at DG ?? We shall see …

  • Della Davis by John farrin ( he’s on DG, the dude with the King avatar), but also trying to finish Gary’s book TYE, have two chapter to go, also almost done with tha last harry Potter before the movie premiers…and rereading Douglas Adams Hitchikers guide to the galaxy, all five books in that trilogy..

  • Had a BiΓ¨re Nouvelle Sur Lie from Brasserie de Saint-Sylvestre, France yesterday. Nice nose and taste of honey, herbs, bitter orange and some yeasty white bread.

Brasserie de Saint Sylvestre is located in north western France, near the Belgian border, between the hills of Mont des Cats, Mont Recollets and Mont Cassel. Ricour family has operated the small brewery since the 1920s.

Bière Nouvelle is a so-called BIERE de garde, a Flemish type of beer originally brewed in winter to be stored for the summer, when it was too hot for brewing beer.

Just got Henry Ossian Flipper’s autobiography, even though it was published in 1878, too early in the book to give any kind of review.

  • John__J

sounds good, never heard of it. I wonder if they export any to the States.

  • Stupid me are collecting one wine, a bordeuax 2nd GC. so I’m looking at the prices for 2010 vintage and the 2009 vintage, and the 2008 vintage, the latter the one being available this fall in my country. The avegare price difference for the 410 most known bordeaux estates are 35? for a 2008, 81 ? for 2009 and 94? for 2010. we are talking avegarge price here.
143% up. Actually if we check back to 2004 the average price have gone up 210% and we still had a real drop in 08…
My wine did a remarkable 222% rise in 2009 compared to 2008, and from 2004 to 2010 224%
This is a crazy world. A wine one can buy for 54? one year the next cost 174? all because of a vintage? Nah don’t think so and is this way every vintage are the ONE OF THE DECADE, CENTURY, THE LAST30 YEARS”. I smell foul play even thou the chinse are buying up Bordeuax like there was no tomorrow.

  • I am reading “Carte Blanche” the new James Bond novel by Jeffrey Deaver and of course, my tennis partner’s “Bloodmoney.”

After those two, I plan on reading “In the Garden of Beasts” http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0307408841

    Cheers!

P.S. Yes, I think a QOTD relating music with wine is in order over at DG. πŸ˜‰

  • P.S.S. I’m leaving soon for a Wine Fest here. http://www.whaleheadclub.org/

    Wish me luck! πŸ˜‰

  • “Testosterone levels” . . . not me! I’m a wuss. πŸ™‚

But nice to have Melba join us either way.

  • may the wine gods be with you!

  • Lisa S

    A wuss? You? hahaha!
    No way, baby.

  • Lisa S

    Yes, please do. Thanks. πŸ™‚

BTW: There is a Vayniak BBQ this Sunday at King JF’s place if you’re in the Fremont area..Randall, Castello, Cellarrat5, not sure who else will be there.

  • Lisa S

Wow.. Impressive reading list, Anders. TYE is second from the top of my stack of books to read. Wine and War is on top. Last book I read was “West of the West” because the author is a friend. Good, but would not recommend to anyone outside of Calif. though.

  • Lisa S

Beautiful place! Will wait for a report. Cheers.

  • Lisa S

Unbelievable! I knew prices increased but that’s insane.

Yeah, it is so interesting that the Chinese are buying up Bordeaux. Would never have predicted it.

  • Lisa S

I’m jealous! Sounds dreamy! Let me know what you think of Opus One (I know the wine is great, but I hear that the tasting at the winery is expensive for what you get).. No concert plans. Will play the hell out of my iPod though.

  • Lisa S

    Dr Oz is hot. πŸ˜‰
Do you really need a 4-hr workout though? Think about your achilles tendon. πŸ™‚
The cab should be great.. Would have been difficult to screw up a Napa cab in 2007.. such a great year.

I want to go with you! You have got to fill us in with all the details! πŸ˜‰

    I am Jealous!

Jancis Robinson just did an article in the Financial Times about that very thing. They are saying that the driving force in the rise is the demand from the Chinese market, the auction market, and the resounding success in the Bordeaux Futures Campaign. The Chinese market has the disposable income and will pay just about anything for the 1st and 2nd Growths, which is sending the 3rd,4th, and the lesser wines climbing skyward. It is totally crazy. We all have to look down the ladder to find those gems unless you have the bank to pick up the better 1st and 2nd growths to cellar away.

  • John__J

    GOOD LUCK DOM!

  • John__J

I got the text from a wine bar owner friend of mine today. I’m only sharing this because you guys and gals are my wine friends, not to brag.
But if you get Wine Spectator, you’ll see me my name on page 107 I believe. It’s their annual top restaurant wine list issue, I’m under Maryland for the restaurant Antrim.

  • Anonymous

Congrats! I hear you have quite a following down there.

Status symbol, like a Rolex on their wrist, they want to be seen drinking it. I am sure they enjoy it as well, but apparently the association is a huge part of it. If I flew over there and tried to pour my wine they would probably shoot me.

  • John__J

Really? cuz I haven’t heard that lol

But thanks man, and nice to see you over on this side again.

  • Anonymous

I’ll be going out to pick up a copy! πŸ˜‰

    TTF
    Nostrovia!

  • Lisa S

That’s GREAT, John! I haven’t received my copy in the mail yet.. πŸ™

  • Lisa S

Ha! They probably would! πŸ™‚ Yes, you are right about status symbol. Look at all the fake purses and watches they produce. πŸ™‚ Hey, are you coming to BBQ on Sunday? I want St Amant zin. πŸ™‚
