EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

    Cool, What are you bringing?

  • I’m here. What are we going to be treated with, a video?

  • Bring it! 🙂

  • Lisa S

    Yeah baby!

I’ll be on a road trip for the next 6 days. I plan on driving from Northern CA to Southern CA.. will stop along the way for wine tasting in Paso Robles, Solvang, Santa Barbara and then to L.A.,Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, to visit family. I’ll try to check in while on the road to see what you bring! 🙂

TTF – I attended a high-end Calif chardonnay tasting on Saturday. I tasted a total of 5 wines. I was so looking forward to this as the chardonnay grape is my favorite white varietal. 🙂

    1. 09 Dutton Goldfield – Dutton Ranch, Rued Vineyard $43. This was the most white burgundy like of the five.. nice bouquet – floral, light oak, nice acidity. 91 pts
2 08 Hanzell: Light in every way.. light bouquet, light oak, light fruit.. not much going on here for $60. My least favorite of the five.. I was surprised and expected more since I’ve heard such good things about Hanzell. 87 pts.
    3. 08 Mount Eden Estate $50. Nice fruit, light oak, light acidity.. very well balanced.. I would buy this by the case if it was half the price. Loved it!! My 2nd favorite of the five.. I think WS loved it too and gave it 95 pts. I just might agree with that score.. Mmmmm.
4 09 Ridge Estate Monte bello Vineyard: $37 The nose was a bit odd.. didn’t think I would like this, but very nice on the palate. light oak.. A delicate wine. I’ve had Ridge Chardonnays in the past and they are consistently good. 89 pts
    5. 08 Kistler – Hyde Vineyard $110 This probably had the most oak, but it was not over the top by any means. Well balanced, nice fruit, nice bouquet..Loved this wine! Very elegant (but I always love Kistler).. just wish I could afford to drink it more often. My favorite of the five, but for the same price you can get a corton charlemagne. Hmmm… 96 pts.
    Cheers!

    Cool tasting, great notes!

  • I have retired -http://dailygrape.com you guys in here mean so much to me!

  • I’ll say what i said on DG.
I think we all understand that it takes a lot of effort to make a video each workday.
And do not make promises that cannot be held, now Gary. Promise that!
Big respect for the 1089 eps and ever so many more videos .
We all have to thank Gary, Mott , Jon and the others.

And we, with a part of Gary still continue to change the wine world.

    SKÅL och lycka till

  • You are a baller then, it’s confirmed…. Sounds like a blast and a treat.

  • Lisa S

I think we all understand your decision, Gary. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!

    We love you, too, Mott!
    xo Lisa S

I know this is something you have to do and we will all live with your decision. It doesn’t make it any easier though. Having known you these last several years has made me a better person and definitely a better wine person. You will be missed and it will take some time to really understand what has just happened. Gary you have been a BIG part of my life and will continue to be until my last days!

    TTF!

    NOSTROVIA!

Good Luck to you Gary !!!

  • Good luck my friend in all that you do. Does it hurt, hell yes, but I would be lying if I said it didn’t. Do we love you, hell yes, and we thank you for everything you gave to WL and DG.

I just don’t know what I’m going to do now on those cold, wintery evenings with a glass of wine in my hand waiting for you to say “Hello everybody, I (poke your fingers toward your eyes) am your host, Gary Vay-ner-chuk and this my friends, is the Thunder Show, aka the internet’s most passionate wine program and today . . .

I raise a glass in your honor and also to my man Mott. Thank you both. 🙂

    Cheers!

  • MOTT!!! Can you get me on wltv forums? AndersN [email protected], delet that account so I can create it again, thanks.

  • Has anyone counted how many times he says DailyGrape in this video?

Anyone have the real reason DailyGrape ended after just five months?

Anders, I’m not seeing a user with that name or email. Contact me directly [email protected]

Just saw the final vid over at DG. Really at a loss as to what else to say at the moment.

  • John__J

It would be really nice for all of us to stay in touch, like we have been on here, even if comments get shutdown on here.

Don’t worry that’s not happening. If for some reason it did I would give you guys fair warning.

    Thanks Mott I appreciate it.

  • Yes, thanks. GV did say “over there” that he was not shutting it down but who knows.

Just give us a heads-up sir and it has truly been a wonderful ride.

    Thanks Mott 😉

  • That’s what makes us so loveable since we are bums. I “don’t do” facebook but can learn. I think I may have three accounts!

  • He has a ton on his plate and these videos take an enormous amount of time and energy. But if I were a guessing man, while being on vacation, sitting back with a nice Bordeaux wondering what he is doing and where he is going, he decides to go in another direction. I, myself, do it each and every time I go on vacation. I think about places I want to visit, a new career even being as old as I am, a myriad of things goes through one’s mind when they are on vacation, especially around family. That’s my take on this. It has been brewing for some time, but vacation time gave him the opportunity to think about his “next step” in owning the Jets and this is “Step 1.” I commend him for it though it breaks my heart. He has the cohones to follow his dream.

  • 😉 We can only hope.

  • John__J

I just sent you a friend req on whatever one Lisa is friends with you on.

  • John__J

It was great while it was on and we a met a bunch of great people because of it, so thank you Gary. What more could you ask?
I’m sure we’ll have a glass down the road.

  • Sounds like a deal to me. I’m there. We still need to catch up at the Wine Bin or Tersiguel’s.

  • Globex

I can remember this same feeling… May 22, 1992. Johnny said farewell on his 4,531st and final Tonight Show. I had two sons and was approaching my 2yr anniversary of working in the financial world, after having flown on my fair share of “mission” flights for the United States. I can still remember looking forward to watching Johnny every night with the same excitement that I had for GV in this WLTV format (not to be confused with DailyGrape) on the big screen tv via Apple TV’s podcasts. Sad, but forever thankful for having been able to have watched both. Cheers GV, and my fellow WLTC fans. P.S. on a side note, my wife just brought to my attention that our purchases from Wine Library dramatically dropped in April. HEY SASHA, kick your boy in the butt and tell him to beat Johnny’s’ 4,531!!!!!

  • Lisa S

Oh my goodness, Globex.. You’re absolutely right.. It feels the same as it did when Johnny said goodbye!! Yikes, I just realized that I haven’t recovered from that either!

    deal 🙂

I think he’ll be back on the couch by Fryday 😉

  • John__J

Absolutely, or any other place you can get a glass. That may be a drive for you.

You go girl 😉 Nice tasting !

Was gonna bring it !!! Some more wine and food reviews but still in a daze over GV packing up his bags. I called it long ago but it still is a bit odd when it’s finally over( WLTV & DG a lighter version of WLTV).

    Be back soon 😉

I also agree on the Johnny Carson’s final tonight show. Wow! It didn’t really hit me until I just read what you posted. Just the same! 🙁

    Melba, please feel free to drop me an e-mail from time to time. Would love hearing from you. All these other TTF’s have my address, so here it is again for you and anyone else that does not have it;

    [email protected]

  • Good man Mott, thanks for those words.

  • If I lived in the US I’d subscripe to the monthly wine club.

  • will do that. I’ll send you some pictures how it looks when i try to dreate a account.

What are you guys drinking this weekend?

  • In my current doldrums, I am drinking a 2010 Buitenverwachting SB from South Africa which is quite delish and then I will have an 2007 Antis Malbec Reserve with dinner of grilled lamb.

On Saturday, I am planning on having dinner at my fav DC restaurant, L’Auberge Chez Francois (www.laubergechezfrancois.com) , and I am contemplating something special so leaning toward Domaine Weinbach Pinot Gris and then moving on to a CDP for dinner.

On Sunday during the hurricane at http://www.mikescrabhouse.com, I will surely have a ice cold brew. It may need to be non-alcoholic to respect my brother who has been dry for some years and I just don’t want to make him feel awkward.

Next week, off to NY to attend the US Open on Tuesday and Wednesday. I’m sure @tennispro will be jealous. 🙂

    Cheers everyone,
    Dom

I’ve had my hours cut, which has allowed me to get out and ride my bike 10-20 miles/day. However, I wont be trying anything new. I’m going to rob the cradle with some WA wines. 2008 Doyenne Metier and 2008 DeLille Chaleur Estate. Also have a 2007Argyle bubbly that I popped last night and needs to be finished. Hope everyone is doing well.

    Cheers,
    Robert

  • Sorry to heart you had your hours cut but you are making good use of that time with exercise and some good wines.

Hurricane Irene needs to move out to sea and not mess up my US Open plans in NYC! I leave Monday morning so hopefully it won’t hit too hard. Crossing my fingers and toes.

    Everyone have a good weekend.

    Dom
