EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

    Yes Happy Birthday Dominus !

Okay, I have a prediction 😉 I think for the most part I have been right about my past predictions about WLTV or DG. We shall see …..

After giving it much thought, Gary will be returning to the wine media space in one way or another. Watch for an email or video announcement at some point in the next 18 months.

Maybe be bi weekly, maybe monthly, maybe ??? Not sure what re entry he’ll use but the bottom line is that a) he will miss the interaction with us wine peeps and b) more than likely his ‘lack of internet wine media exposure” will push him into returning to push book sales or support another business adventure. His twitter following will not be his savior either.

I’m sure GV feels he has many directions he can go, and I’m sure he’ll try. I’m sure he’ll be “moderately” successful, but at the end of the day his primary skill set in in the wine media space and not in some other venture he is currently fascinated with. Do you all remember his emails why he was leaving WLTV and doing DG ( mobile apps ) we’ll we know how that all ended. I’m still waiting for the like not like buttons / and the android version/app.

Let face it without the goodwill created from the wine media exposure how many books would he really have sold ??? Without WLTV He’d have no credibility for most of us consumer. How may of you would have really bought the book(s) if you did not know gary from WLTV? I believe he still has 8 out of 10 books to kick out.

Not hating on you Gary, just trying to keep it real and give us all some perspective and hope on why you will be returning. 😉

GV we miss you and we’ll see you soon ….. 😉

  • I have no clue if this is a correct assesment or not. So if wine is his trade and he just plain tired of that right now? Turning 36 in november and life is just great, lets try other stuff. Why not? With all the networking and all the celebs and biz peeps he met I’m sure this entrepreneur will make an buck and an impact somewhere. As of being back in the wine showbiz withing 18 months? It could be like 30 minutes of some sort of visual media with indepth facts about a specific within the wine world. Or is that nische taken by someone? I’m looking for a more indepth facts hands on thingy to learn more.

    Hi TP,

    Did you see this article?
    http://www.1winedude.com/index.php/2011/08/30/what-does-gary-vaynerchuks-exit-mean-for-the-wine-world/

Let me know if this changes your prediction. 🙂

  • Anonymous

nope …. GV has basically been commenting that he may return at some point already. Did you see his comments to this piece ? It just depends on his gut ….. I’m good with my prediction, Do you really think that Vaynermedia will ever get him the success he wants ?? He’s snap out of it.

I saw the burn out long ago …. did you notice all the 5 – 8 minute video’s on WLTV that were coming out late in the WLTV cycle ?? I believe that I called him on it – being the most passionate wine program and pumping out variable and watered down content. He I get it … we all get burned out at times. He’ll be back in this game.

Make a buck?? for sure …. make an impact ??? define impact because WLTV is certainly not any sort of impact on any kind of measurable global scale.

  • Anonymous

I think his impact has been globally large! He has to be right up there with the big boys as far as being famous. He has had a larger impact on younger winos than anyone else has.

  • Anonymous

    I love this one.

  • and even on the old farts like us 🙂

  • Loved both articles. Well written and to the point with lashing out at all the hecklers. I know we are a bit harsch on Gary, but that’s just because we actually like what he’s been doing.

  • Anonymous

Hummmm …. Global impact? I’m sure he entertained many people abroad but did he really have a global audience with any significant numbers ? I question that. The big boys ?? who exactly are you comparing him too?

Like I said before …. define impact and then apply it globally and we’ll see what shakes out

    ;-).

Right behind Parker and Jancis! Close to Suckling, Burghound, Galoni, Wilfred and Oz? Of coarse I am biased but that’s how I see it from the left coast. After we define impact and wait a few years we’ll talk. Link it up Mott!

Happy Birthday, Anders!!! (Sept 1) Have a great day! Remember that 50 is the new 40!

Are you leaving on your long vacation tomorrow? Will you be able to keep in touch so we can organize a get-together when you arrive in SF on Oct 3rd-ish?

Can’t believe all the birthdays in the past week, Castello, Dominus, you, and I think Randall is also on Sept 1. We’re surrounded by Virgos. 🙂

    Cheers!

I think we need to nominate a replacement for GV. Who needs a job and has some charisma? Charlie Sheen. You folks will have to edumacate him on the nuances of wine and I’ll teach him up on the fine science of tasting Tequila, Whiskey and Grappa.

  • Well Thank you Lisa. It’s almost midnight here so right on the money. I’ll be leaving on saturday and eventually arrive i Sf 10.30 oct 3rd. I probably be off the grid some of the time, but I’ll try to fins some wi-fi spots to logg on and check things out.
In case we don’t connect before the 3rd call me on +46735358456 but wait until the a cpole of day before. The week before 3 rd I’m on Hawaii.
Hmm Castello too?, and Randall? Well, great minds think alike. Einstein was a virgo too 😀

Happy Birthday My Friend! Have a great day and a great bottle of wine. Oh yes, and some Chocolate. 😉

  • Anonymous

Lisa, are you the keeper of all the Birthday’s? 😉

  • Anonymous

I like it …. we shall see 😉

  • John__J

Charlie Sheen? Perhaps we could get Gary Busey, Crispin Glover and Christopher Walken to take turns co-hosting. Too bad Dennis Hopper isn’t around anymore. He’d be right at home with Charlie.

  • John__J

    Happy b-day Anders!

  • John__J

There never was a Grappa episode, was there?

  • Lisa S

Hey if it’s on Facebook, or I “hear” about it ahead of time… then maybe so. I think women are better at remembering things like birthdays. Yes/No? 😉

  • Lisa S

Ha! Einstein? Well that explains it!
Thanks for phone number. I’ll see who we can round up for SF get together on Oct 4th or around that time. Cheers!

  • Thank you

  • Will do, most certainly will do. Thank you.

Can I get an argument here. I’d like to hear some of the other folks thoughts about Garys Impact and or influence on the wine world.
I may have to move this to the top of the page. Or maybe enough has been said and we shall lay this one down for a few years.

  • Lisa S

Agreee with you, Castello. I think his impact is large and influence great in the wine world… As you know, since you were there with me at his talk/book signing last April, he has other things cooking besides Vaynermedia and books. I don’t think he is as motivated by $$ as some might think. The only thing we know for sure is that he has lost his passion for video wine reviews, and I can forgive him for that. Hell, I would probably be bored, too, after 1,089 episodes.

Lastly, I don’t like to speculate too much, or be harsh/critical (even if there was a reason to be) after all, this is GV’s website and that would be a bit unseemly. I am sure you guys agree. 🙂 Other than that, I’ve got nothing.

  • Anonymous

YES, I do believe that to be true! 😉

  • Thank you my dear. 😉 Only a few people in my life recognized the fact though I am one to keep it quiet so only myself to blame if no one sends me well wishes.

I’m back from NY and the US Open. I saw some lousy matches but was front row center wherever I watched a match.

Off to watch some tennis now. Tired, beat, NY City just wears ole introvert me out.

    Cheers!

  • Thank you my friend 😉

  • Thank you all for the well wishes.

I do appreciate it. It means alot.

  • I must admit, the evening was just “ok” and we had a Domaine Julienne Cotes-du-Rhoine which was very good. I need to find some. I just found it but sold out at WLTV. Another 88 pt gem.

    http://winelibrary.com/wines/44085-2006+Vieille+Julienne+Cotes+Du+Rhone+750ML

They invited their son and fiance which did not give me time to actually “visit” with them so, oh well, it did not go as planned.

I had dinner a couple nights later at a restaurant owned by Batalia, Joe and Lidia Bastianich that was a culinary cerebral experience. Truly amazing and yes, verrry expensive.

    Cheers!

  • Ohhh yes 😉
