EP 1000 Episode 1,000

Gary Vaynerchuk has finally made it to episode 1,000 of Wine Library TV! It’s been an amazing ride since that day in February 2006, with great guests, amazing (and sometimes awful) wines, as well as a lot of Jets talk. Today, the main focus is a huge thank you to all the Vayniacs who helped make this community…and a huge announcement from Gary.

Wines tasted in this episode:

2008 Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines BrutFrench Brut Vintage

    Cool.. Did you watch??

Congrats Mott!!!! I’m happy for the Giants even though they kicked our butt 2 wks ago.

What did you all think of Madonna’s half-time show? I liked it.. At least she kept her clothes on. A wardrobe malfunction would have been sad, although she looks pretty good for 53!!

  • Congrats to the G-Men and Mott!

  • I have always been a Madonna fan so I’m a little biased but thought it was much better than most of the previous half-time shows. By starting off with one of my favs got me pumpin’ (the game was a snorefest until that time) and she ended the show with one of her hits. Very smart.

Yep, she looks better than gals half her age.

On a wine note, I made a Bolognese sauce (variation on a them by Giada) and meatballs (Emeril) and had a Franco Serra Dolcetto D’Alba 2010

Ruby red color tending towards purple. The nose is pleasing and distinctive, light floral, red fruit aromas with hints of smoke. Soft with cranberry and raspberry fruit in the mouth with a touch of tobacco. Light to medium bodied with moderate acidity.

A definite food wine. I tried quaffing this before dinner and was too over-the-top for my palate but when I had it with the Bolognese and pasta, it was a perfect marriage, well, maybe not “perfect marriage” since those don’t exist but rather an amorous pairing. 🙂

    Cheers!

P.S. No more football! What to do?

  • that is this week, what about a Rhone tasting?

  • So a nice time and two shows on the tube 🙂
Now it’s time for golf… but not here, we have had two weeks of 14 F and lower. yet only 2 inch of snow.

  • First half wich was about 1.30 am here and I work mondays 🙂
Yes congratulations to Mott. Be gentle when meeting Gary.

Thanks all. I’m a happy boy today!

  • Anonymous

Congratulations Mott! You must have had a hell of a night?

  • Anonymous

Anders, you getting the cold and snow now? I have been seeing Europe is getting hit pretty hard here lately.

  • Anonymous

It was such a close game that when it was over it was exhausting.

  • Lisa S

    Hi Dom,
You like Madonna? I would have never guessed..My fav is Like a Prayer. Yes, Yes, it was a snorefest during the first half. I loved the ads- especially the volkswagen ad – “the dog strikes back.” I bet you guys loved the Telefloral ad with Adriana Lima.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWrJgFjxlS0

Pasta sounds great. I bet the pasta was delicious! Great wine review, too! I can’t remember if I’ve ever had a Dolcetto??? Definitely didn’t have a perfect marriage, so there you go.

I finally opened the Kosta Browne 06 Russian River Pinot that I received for Christmas.. Good but not stellar. I checked Wine Spec online and they didn’t love it either. 88 pts.

What to do now that football is over? Hmmmmm…..
    Cheers!

PS. Where is Tennispro? Did he go to Aussie open?

  • I think it is the 17 day with 14 f or lower, but we have no snow so everything is just frozen solid

  • I will do a Bordeaux tasting wednesday since my wine class was cancelled I’ll do that at home taping it.

  • What did GV say? Did he give you props?

  • Adrianna Lima . . . wowwwwwww

Those ladies from VS are not “real” people are they? Nahhhh

  • Yes, I love Madonna. My 1st CD was “Thriller” and my 2nd one was, I believe, “Immaculate Collection.”

VW ad was great though the Teleflora ad was, well, “inspiring.”

You opened the Kosta Browne? Sorry to hear it was not stellar but as I said on Episode 1001, 88 pts is in my wheelhouse. 🙂

If Tennispro went to the Oz Open, I will be one jealous tennis fan. The Men’s semis and finals were epic.

Cheers and again, congrats to the G-Men!

  • Absolutely stunning. She can’t be real.

  • Oh yes, the pasta was delish. Perfect comfort food for the Super Bowl. But I beg the question, how can Gronkowski and some of the Pats players be out dancing that night? Sorry, I’m “old school” and would have been like Brady and hung my head at my locker for hours. Only Gisele could have pried me away. 🙂

P.S. “Perfect marriage” is an oxymoron. It does not exist.

    Cheers!

  • Lisa S

    Loved Immaculate Collection and Thriller!!

Shall we send a search party to find TP??

  • Lisa S

Naaahh. She probably has a wart on her nose, or something hideous. 🙂

Now David Beckham was great in the H&M underwear ad! 🙂 🙂 🙂 but what’s with all the tattoos? Yikes, I hope those aren’t real.

  • I think so. Send out the dogs to all the tennis courts in SF and while you’re at it maybe check the vineyards too. 🙂

  • His hair is to die for in those ads and yes, those tats are real.

Adrianna has to have some “defect.” 🙂

  • God is good, He gave Beckhamn good looks but took it all back on his voice 🙂
H&M the third largest Swedish brand of all time, who knew that they would get a soccer player from England when everyone raves about our own Swedish Zlatan… Wierd world.

  • Here it is. My little video 🙂 Happy winetasting everyone.

  • This is going to be so much fun to watch this tonight.

Thanks AndersN for being a man of your word. 😉

  • AndersN: Now that was great! Thanks for the shoutouts and filming this video. You brought out the “big boys” for our viewing pleasure and education.

As I said over at DG, I like that painting of the sitting woman over your right shoulder. Don’t tell me that’s a picture of “your girl”?

I also like your spit bucket. Annika Sorenstam is much better than a football team!

Great job and thank you again.

    Who’s turn is next?

    Cheers!

    P.S. We do miss Gary.

  • Lisa S

Ha! So he sounds a bit like Harry Potter… I think I can get used to it. 🙂 I see your point about H&M’s choice for a model. Too funny.. I googled Zlatan and he’s almost as hot.. but, again, what is with the tattoos? Sigh. And what about Ikea? Another popular store from your people. 🙂 The place makes me crazy as I can never find my way out of the store. Cheers!

  • Lisa S

Awww! Thanks for a lovely wine tribute and shout outs, Anders! Well done!! I want wine #1.. What is it again?? (actually they all sound good).

Even the Oak Monster made an appearance! Loved it! (Gary should be proud!)

We all should meet up again soon. Maybe on the East Coast next time. 🙂

Thanks again for taking the time to do this. We appreciate it.

  • Lisa S

Well said, Dom! Umm… I think it’s your turn. 😉

  • Thank you

  • We do miss Gary on the wine scene.
The woman on the portrait is one of my sisters and she is the artist, erog it is a self portrait

    Thanks for the feedback

  • I nominate Lisa for Episode 1003!!! 🙂

  • second that

  • Lisa S

Thanks, Anders.. yes, sorry, the one that ended up being number the winner. Will seek this out. Wine searcher is great!

  • Lisa S

    I’m shy. 😉

  • So if you all want some wine stuff from Gary I guess this is the place to go now.

No videos and mostly short wine info of whats for sale from Winelibrary. Man, that boy hustles every hour 🙂

  • He does for sure. 🙂

  • For some reason, I don’t believe it. 😉

  • Danny Flood

This video blog site has been really a treat for us wine lovers! It’s just sad that it had to end on a thousand episode. But still i’m looking forward on the new show! Kudos to you Gary Vaynerchuk!

  • Now that was a long trip for that “dude.” That was a great show and you are one lucky man to have him showcase his wines.

Anyone have any nice Walla Walla wines lately?

  • This is my WOW (Wine of the Week)

    http://store.liquorama.net/Sawbuck-California-Cabernet-2009.aspx

I will bet a bottle of Dom-i-nus no one can find a better <10 bone CA cab.

P.S. LisaS: Can you find this and try for me? I'd like to know what you think of it and be honest. If you can't find it, I can personally deliver one to your house. 🙂

  • Treborrr

Don’t know if you guys can find this one http://www.sevenhillswinery.com/images/60/file/planinmillred.pdf
I find them at Costc… for $10.99 Have had several over the last two months and every time I open one I am quite surprised by how good they are. Will be picking up more tomorrow. Not quite <10 bones but I am putting it up against the Sawbuck. And it's got some Walla Walla in it 🙂

  • Lisa S

Thanks for tip, Robert. I have not seen this at Costco in Redwood City, CA, but will be on the look out. Are you in Washington state?

  • Lisa S

I’ll be happy to try this for you, dear. I’m sure I will like it, as you have not steered me wrong yet. I’ve not had any luck with cabs or blends ~ $10.. only a couple come to mind as palatable: Chateau St Michelle or 14 Hands, both from WA. Stay tuned! Will take me approx a week to get this.

PS: I am drinking my first Ken Wright pinot noir! It’s the least expensive bottling in his lineup – 2009 Ken Wright Willamette Valley Pinot Noir – delicious (under $30)! I just ordered two more bottles: http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=1044466 and
    http://www.grapetray.com/r/Items/ken-wright-willamette-valley-pinot-noir-2009

  • Lisa S

You’ve got to be kidding, Anders?? (and how did I miss that show on WLTV?) I’ve had a couple of his wines.. Kung Fu girl riesling is not bad.

PS: I recommended Corison cab to a friend at work who wanted some Napa cab recommendations. She bought the 05 Corison cab and loved it so much that she bought two more bottles! Another friend today stopped by and told me that he and his wife had a Bergstrom Willamette pinot noir last night for Valentine’s day and loved it so much they will join the wine club. So there you go. Your palate is right on track. 🙂

  • Lisa S

Speaking of value cabs, the latest offering by Wine Library deserves a look:
https://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=64811 I’ve not had the Oberon 09, but had either the 06 or 07 at the Capital Grille steak house in Chicago last year and thought it was yummy. 🙂

  • Looks like a good one. Nice label and from Michael Mondavi. Interesting.
