ok.. So.. When GV started I took a leap of faith.. I bought the El Nido Clio. What could I say? A guy starting a wine video blog who owns a wine store. Why wouldn’t he trump it up.

Today June 11th 2011 I opened one of the 6 bottles I bought. Wholly CRAP!

Strong fruit, leather flavor.. Freaking AWESOME!

If anyone wants the 2003, I have 2 bottles left!

Thanks Gary V!

  • Had a Gaja a while back. 2000 I think it was. Thank god I did not have to pay for it. It was delicious. Would like to have had it side by side with one of his barolos. Was not that lucky. Keep it up. Go Giants!!!

Watched episode #84 last night with my wife… she loved your hair! I have no comment on that topic, but what’s not to love about Nicolai?

Anyway, another great show, my question is do you (or any blogger) have a recommendation of a CDP blanc? I am quite familiar with CDP red, pretty sure I’ve never had a CDP blanc…

(QOD)… or a good-enough-to-remember Barbaresco, for that matter, so I’m looking forward to episode #85!

In terms of ChduPape blancs: I love Vieux Telegraph and especially Beaucastle – – which can age forever. I just had a 1991 that still had lots of life left in it!

    The hair was highly amusing.

    Haven’t ever had those wines/grape.

Thanks for keeping the show fun and not taking it too seriously.

    Hi Gary,

Was out of town last two days and just catching up so I do not even know if you will read this since you have already posted next episode. Up above in the comments, StanVH (comment #27)asks a great question about scores in relation to price. I would love to hear you address and answer.

I thought the episode was great and yes you did have more energy and enthusiasm. Do not let the wines bring you down!!..:)

I also have to say I really had a hard time watching this epsisode because you taste five wines but only listed four in the wines tasted in this epsiode list AND one of the bottles disappeared and I could not figure out where you were or what happended without pausing and going back.

I have never had a Barberesco and looking forward to watching the next episode about them!

    Thanks,

    Bruce

Gary, its called a comb. Have had the Alto which was good, love all the different El Nido's, have a Tensley Syrah in cellar, have not tried. I am sure I have tried a Barbaresco, mostly at wine tastings, can't remember if I liked or not. http://www.winelx.com

HOLY CRAP!!! i Can’t believe that the el-nido was 1/4 the price 4 years ago! i mean, that means it pretty much doubled every year! That is RIDICULOUS. This is the epitome of why i hate big ratings. Come on!! This was a great buy at $30 and maybe up to $50, but at $120 within 4 years is straight STUPID!

QOTD: Have had a barbaresco but dont have a favorite

  • I agree with you, just checked it out the 2005 el Nido is 130$ here, happy to see we’re not the only ones getting screwed though but yeah pissed off about the score putting the wine out of reach for me.
FYI you missed a comment a couple episodes a go, I thought you quit, but apparently I still have catching up to do.

QOTD: Only had a couple, including the Oddiuo podere 2005 recently, problem with these Nebbiolo wines is they need so much time, although they are good after a couple of years, the acidity is so high, you NEED food to drink them, but in a few years I know they’ll be awesome, probably the same reason I don’t drink much Bordeaux, I have some of both but I need to wait them out.

You can find some new world type Barolo and Barbaresco which are more seductive and ready to drink now but you loose a lot of the varietal specific caracteristics, so less interesting.

  • men… this is CLIO, not EL NIDO. CLIO has been allways 30$!!! is the young boy of the same winery
