0-3 after that trip? Ouch. Sorry Gary. At least I can thank you for tasting the wines so we dont have to! QOTD: The only wine ive had in the last 2 weeks was a taste of the Charles Shaw Chardonnay. Year doesnt matter since it was awful. I have to get my parents drinking better wine….. Well if the year does matter it was the 2001.

I’ve been interested in trying the Fiddlehead for awhile now, I’m actually more interested in it now that Gary gave it an 89. Even though he said it’s a pass, it’s a high enough score for a Cali Pinot to warrant spending $30+ in my opinion.

pitty .. i hear the 04 argyle nuthouse is a little tight and young… (it was just bottled recently too) however the ‘03 is drinking like a freegin’ champ right now….but good luck finding it i know of only one place it’s available.
there is no e at the end of Oregon …. “Oreegone????” them are fighting words and a serious party foul here in the green state….

QOTD: I wouldn’t say it was in the best wine category, but something new and still pretty good - Spier 2007 Chenin Blanc. Worst was Rolling 2005 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon — Do not drink this wine. I swear, 2 barely drinkable glasses and I had a serious headache the next day. Normally that’s a 8 glass requirement. :) Too bad it was the only wine at the party… I should have had the budweiser.

I’ve had a subtle link to your site since I started watching. I even mentioned you on my Hawaii Trip Log:

QOTD: Best: Tossup Gunderloch “Jean Baptiste” Reisling (didn’t note the year) or Zenato Valpolicella ‘Ripassa’ 2004
    QOTD: Worst: Some Plum Sake

    QOTD…
Best: 2004 Accordini Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso. Had it at a new chic Italian restaurant in town that we fell in love with so it could be a tad biased.
Worst: Some house wine at a random restaurant outside of San Juan… what was I thinking.

No new wines over the last two weeks. I almost got a glass of Sangiovese at Olive Garden Thursday afternoon, but I decided against it ultimately, as I was going to a church retreat. lol

QOTD: The Best - Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2006

The Worst - Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2006

Been sick recently, so only one bottle in the past two weeks. :-) Shame I have to call it the worst, though, as it was really quite good.

Great to have you back Gary! I introduced your show to my girlfriend today and she absolutely adores you! As a matter of fact, I don’t think you two should meet ;-) Hehe.

QOTD: On a whim I decided to take a short trip to Napa and had two solid days of wine tasting at various vineyards and the Chefs Market downtown. The best of the bunch this weekend was J Vineyards 2003 Russian River Valley, Pinot Noir along with Bell Vineyards 2000 Syrah. I had the Pinot paired with Duck Sausage Pissaladiere and the Syrah paired with a marvlous pepper crusted pork tenderloin (with a nice port reduction). Deeeeeeee’lish!

The worst: Duckhorn 2006 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. While it started off wonderfully crisp, fruit forward, and acidic, it left a horrible metallic aftertaste which tainted everything I tried afterwards for hours.

    Weeeeeeeee!

Best = 2004 Sebastiani “Cherryblock” cab. A profound wine. Not only a fantastic nose, but marvelous mouthfeel and balance. Well worth the roughly $70 price per bottle. Low production at something like 700 cases. Estate grown from a small area of the vineyard where cherry trees once grew.

Best Value = 2004 Justin “Orphan.” Justin makes a high end label called “Isoceles,” and the less than premium fruit goes into the “Orphan” label. However, this is an excellent, well-crafted wine for in the area of $17. In essence, you get a $70 bottle for a quarter of the price. Sells out quickly.

Worst = Echo Valley Sangiovese (vintage unkown). Tried this on vacation while in Arizona. It was made in Sedona, AZ. Not good at all. Not even sure if it was sangiovese, let alone wine! Two sips was all I could stomach.

Note: someone prior mentioned Lindsey’s Cuvee “Truth.” Indeed, a really intersting cult wine / blend. Check it out if you can find it.

Had some pretty good wines while you where away, my favorite of which was the Napa Valley 2003 Cliff Lede Claret, quickley followed by the 2004 Seghesio 100% Old Vine Zinfindel. Both wonderfull wines, and for the love of god that Zin was amazing with my chocolate creme brulee… In other news distastefull wine during the break, had a 2002 Cyrus Syrah that was just an abomination…

GV- Good to have you back. I didn’t respond right away as I was on a little vaca of my own. Which leads me to the QOTD: I was able to try many different wines purchased through WL with great friends who came into town. We rented a house up in the San Juan islands here in WA and dug into the…
2001 Sky Zinfandel Mount Veeder, 2006 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, 2004 Cave Springs Ice Wine Riesling, with the champion being the 2004 Chateau Le Gay Bordeux. We popped it open and then went whale watching. We came back and enjoyed it with some killer Filet Minon. So, all that to say, THANKS for the suggestions. We had a great trip and you were there with us in spirit.

Hope you had a great vacation, good to see you’re back!

QOTD: I was actually in the Med as well last week, vacationing on Sicily. So I’ll stick to best & worst Sicilian wine I drank while out there:

Best: Cusumano Insolia 2005 - very interesting indigenous Sicilian (from what I’ve understood) white varietal wine. Had a sort of marzipan (almonds?) aftertaste which I loved. Cheap too (6.5 EUR retail).

Worst: Planeta La Segreta Bianco 2006 - blend white with predominantely Grecanico (60%). Was completely off, very acidic and unpleasant in the whole. I suspect it may have cooked a little too long in the Sicilian heat at one point.

Is the title of this one a little take off from Eminem…?

    QOTD:

Best wine — 2004 Sea Smoke Southing Pinot Noir.

Worst wine — 2006 Yellowtail Shiraz something or other… Wife bought it for a group of people at a party who don’t drink wine. I had a sip and it was fakey fakey. Fake oak, fake fruit. It tasted like liquid smoke meets Kool Aid with not enough water.
