Looks like the wine from Washington was the winner of thise episode. Thats another one in the bank for us…. OH YEAH! The other three kind of turned me off, esp. the last one. Im like 3 miles from St Michelle, so I can just drive by anytime I like and score some bottles.. woot! QOTD: More bizzare pop culture/wrestling references. AS MANY AS POSSIBLE. And on a realistic note, more wines from Germany and Austria. Other than that, the show kicks everything everywhere.

I’m finishing up my first bottle of Zweigelt… it is a Hugl Weine Zweigelt ‘06 and my fiance and I loved it with pizza. Gary this was the first time I was browsing through a local wine shop and recoignized one of your out of the ordinary suggestions and I’m happy I did.

I agree with the Beaujolais Nouveau comparison and generally found it to be very bright strawberry fruit centered. Great pick, I’ll enjoy passing it along to friends.

QOTD: Throw in some WWF tag-team references. Teams like The Rockers, The Hart Foundation, The Bushwhackers, The Legion of Doom, The Natural Disasters, The Steiner Brothers, Demolition, and The Nasty Boys would be cool to talk about.

QOTD: Put a world map in the backround and point to where the wine is coming from when you’re talking about it.

Had to stop the video when I heard the “psych”; laughing too hard.

How about an episode devoted entirely to your rating system, the nitty-gritty? I would like to know how you get the scores you get, and how they would align with mine. (It’s really hard for me to get good wines in Wyoming, so I can’t go out and buy something you’ve tasted and drink it while i’m watching the show.

QOTD1: Field trips. A winery tour would be cool. Show the winemaking process.
QOTD2: Get footage at a Vayniac party or event
QOTD3: The blind taste was cool. More of that.
QOTD4: Do a show on all Washington wines.
    QOTD5: Or change nothing. It’s great as-is.

Hey Gary, Great show…I almost bought the BV BOZO for a half a second. It’s great to watch your show keep doing it!!!

QOTD: I love your show and feel you are doing much to accomplish your purpose–to take the mystique out of wine. My only fear is for your, and possibly the listeners, burnout. I think you should do less shows. No more than 2 or 3 a week.

Who knew that sweaty jock strap full of grasshoppers on the nose would turn out to taste bad???

QOTD: I think it is fun when you have the vintners on the show. It shows a different side of things. Also, something about hosting your own personal Vayniac wine tasting party. I have told a lot of friends about the WLTV and I think that hosting a wine tasting become-a-vayniac party would be awesome.

Interesting show with some odd wines. The Rose’ sounds pretty decent. As for ever having any of these, I have had a Zweigelt, but it was from a Canadian winery (Niagara on the Lake, Inniskillin I think). It was actually not bad either. I will have to try a real Austrian Zweigelt one of these days.

QOTD: I’m waiting for this Friday’s episode - then I’ll answer, Gary. ;-)

QoTD: I’d love to see you do a play-by-play on individual wineries — the way us peons do when we go tasting at a winery.

have you ever done a show with kosher wines? NJ must have loads of jewish potential clients and israel today is producing great wines. Your comments please.

I stumbled across the site b/c I was searching for good wineries to visit in Oregon. I can’t stop watching it…fortunetely there are plenty of episodes for me to catch up on.

QOTD: As much fun as it is to watch Vay-Ner-Chuck taste the wine - I think it would be great to be able to participate from the comfort of our own homes. Here is the idea: do a feature where you offer a “Guided Tour” of 3-wines. (like 3-bottles of Spanish Tempranillo or 3-bottles of Chilean Cab, etc.. ranging from good to great). You could offer shipments of these 3 bottles where state-laws permit it. Then we could taste the wine with you as more of a learning excercise. Perhaps (if technology allows) this could be done in an interactive way.

    Just a thought.

Like the Christopher Columbus analogy (killing Indians notwithstanding)… exploring unchartered or unfamiliar waters. You do that well, and since you do a lot of wines you haven’t personally tasted yet, you experience it for the first time “with us” - i like that, it makes the show real. Keep it real!

gary, the only thing you could do with this show that would concern me would be to EVER listen to the people who tell you that you’ve got to tone it down/button it up. it’s pretty clear that you’re not a toned down person in ‘real life’, so make sure you don’t edit your content for the show. everybody’s way too homogenized nowadays.

as for other changes… what happened to casual friday? i liked seeing some questions answered. the idea of a ‘drink along’ also sounds really good. i guess we could always just go out and buy the bottle before we watch the show though!

    keep it up!

I didn’t appreciate the comment about Columbus. Better stick to wine or subjects where you know about. Columbus was the explorer, remember? You were probably thinking about Cortes, Pizarro or Gen. Custer. In any case, those were dark times and is not appropriate to judge (should I say misjudge) from our comfy chair while sipping wine.

I had to get it out of me…

Great episode with several wines I’ve never heard of. Too bad Winelibrary doesn’t have a Kadarka to recommend.

QOTD: Add another section to the WineLibrary TV site: education. Organize it by country and offer content like “The Wine Bible” or “Oxford Companion to Wine.” When you feature a wine like Kadarka on the show, you can reference to education site where veiwers can learn more. This would be a lot of work, but it would be a great addition to the show. I’ll volunteer to help get it going!

Side note: Columbus doesn’t deserve the hate he has been receiving lately. There were NO saints in the discovery, exploration and settling of the US. Killing Indians was self defense, not genocide.

QOTD: Well, come to think of it, I”ve always enjoyed the on-location Eps. that you’ve done- outside in the frigid cold, extreme heat, and I think that there are endless possibilities for where you can set up your table and camera and tape some on-location WLTV. SO– try to take the show… ANYWHERE- just get out of that office and see where you can go.

QOTD: I liked the episode when you had some of the “behind the scenes” guys taste a wine and discuss it. Do that again except maybe with a few more wines. Bring in some of the other people at WLTV and taste through a few different wines. I think it’s be awesome to see the different flavors people are picking up.

    Gary,
Here’s what I’d like to see:
    1. Add more education, e.g., info about grape variety, wine county or region, vineyard, etc. This can be done by having a program, e.g., on a single grape variety or country, wine region, vineyard, etc. I’m always looking for more wine knowledge, esp., finding great producers.
    2. Please continue to seek out the good wines in the $12-$50 range. Although I love them, I cannot afford to buy expensive Bordeaux or CA Cabs.
    3. Book Robert Parker
    4. Remain honest

QOTD: I think you need to have another drink-along. And this time throw in something very common that everyone can find at their local wine shop, since not all of us have the good fortune of interstate liquor shipping.
