If we are doing show requests, how about some shows on winerys from around the US…..Like Missouri, New Mexico, Texas, etc. A US tour of state wines.

for starters, don’t button your top button, dork. a pipe would be fine though.

As for content, keep surprising us. I love surprises.

Not loving the new modified less focused intro.

I thought the “Hello everybody this is Gary Vay-ner-chuk and THIS is Wine Library TV” was a great signature intro, wonderful cadence, simple and did not require any thought to understand. The kind of signature element, like the music intro to the Daily Show etc., that is so memorable and people come to count on to remind them of what they are watching and anchors them back to their fond memories of past shows. A gymnastic move where you stick the landing.

The latest “Hello everybody this is Gary Vay-ner-chuk and THIS is the thunder show A-K-A Wine Library TV, etc.” lacks the same elegance and memorable simplicity, and tends to just ramble on and leaves you flat. Plus, it makes you think what does the thunder show mean, I assume it has to do with the occasional bottle of wine you taste that “bring the thunder”, but since that is not every show then I wonder why today is the thunder show, etc. A gymnastic move where you take two or three steps and stumble a bit on the landing.

Obviously, this is just one mans thought, and you have been plenty successful just going with the flow and your gut. I just used to look forward to the old intro and was glad you had found a really cool signature style and am always a little let down when the intro does not feel nailed but rambled around.

I do not mean this as criticism just a perspective from a loyal watcher.

    Dear Gary,

I am on this website today because of an artical I read on you in North Shore Magazine. I just started working as a server in a new resturant that features up to 600 varieties of Italian wine. I love wine but am brand new to learning the components of wine tasting. If I taste it and like it, I’ll drink it.

I think these videos are great and I find you charismatic and amusing. I would like to see you feature some italian wines if possibe because I am trying to learn enough to become a part-time sommelier eventually at this establishment.

QOTD: (well YQODT as im a day late) DON’T CHANGE A DAMN THING. We love the show BECAUSE you’re over the top…you can afford to act a little nutty because you can back it up with serious knowledge. Hell, you could do the show on wine library’s roof while fending off pigeons in nothing but your underpants and a cook-skin cap and we’d only love you more for it.

    Keep bringing the thunder, brotha’

I’ve never had the BV Beauzeaux, but I can say I’ve had other wines from BV & I thought they were all terrible. Last week I had the BV Syrah at a friends….BLAH! I mean if 2 buck chuck can make a passable Syrah, couldnt anyone??? Apparently not. It had a lot of burn from the alcohol coming through & yet it was thin & watery!! I think I am just giving up on BV. Side note…we have a big chain here in So Cal called Bevmo…their taster gave Beauzeaux 90 points!! I better remember that next time I decide to buy something from there!

You told ne you were not going to change once all of the new media attention started coming in & you buttoned your top button. :-p
QOTD – Except for the recently inserted “And this is the thunder show”, don’t change anything. Please drop that as it comes off as a bit much. As others have said, you are a bit over the top sometimes but that is why we like you! Do a Terry Theise catalog show.

  • Regarding the feedback, go ahead and be a fruit bomb, Gary. You don’t have to be and Old World terroiresque vlogger/critic for us to take you seriously.

As far as the Beauzeaux experience, I’d still be interested in hearing about your favorite multi-varietal value blends from the US. I happen to like the Cline Oakley Five Reds for the price…

    QOTD:

1)Keep it over the top. I love the show.
2)How about a few “on location” shows….in cali, oregon, etc
3)I’m still waiting for the “rat out a lurker” segment.
4)Stop saying “whiffy whiff” and “sniffy sniff” – you sound like a pansy.
5)More blind tastings….with a few previously tasted wines to test consistency (Voga, yellow tail,Beauzeaux!).

I laughed pretty hard when you said “psych!” – thought I was in third grade again.

Thanks again. You’re great – no matter what my wife says.

  • I know you are already over the t-shirt thing, but I must admit to you that I used to promote the Iron Sheik. I took him to El Pasa once and he and I and Gary Hart went to Juarez for tacos all night long. What a blast, no wine just Modelos in plenty. Love the show, I keep up constantly, keep up the good work. And maybe I’ll tell you of Kerry Von Erich in Birmingham with my first taste of sushi.

    Gary,
you have a show that works well, it is very entertaining and imformative at the same time. I like tht you give honest reviews of the wine, it is crap you don’t hold back. I remember when top 100 was a piece of cake and the 8.3 million bones was an attainable goal, now I have to get home and watch early to be in the top 100 comments. You are the thunder!!!

  • What if I actually bought the WWF Superstars cassette back when Nikoli Volkov was singing Cara Mia Mi and spewing the Russian national anthem over Captain Lou Albano trying to sing some gibberish in what I recall as a medly of WWF superstars of sorts.

I also saw the Iron Sheik two years ago at the Arnold Classic, looking like a 60 year old “Iron” Sheik would look. The 4th grader in me wanted an autograph, but the adult in me dialed homeland security. I think it was code orange that day…or red…fuchsia? I dunno, but I was certain something was going to go down.

So do I get the TShirt, or what? I’ll wear it at my favorie two wine bars in Indianapolis, Deano’s Vino and D’vine, I swear.

  • Kissing frogs, pal, kissing frogs. After watching the Kadarka tasting, going out on a limb here (hey, you can do it, why not me? ;)), but isn’t one of the reasons that people tend to dig the “big mouth” wines the Kadarka experience? How many times have you tried something that you thought, “awright, what the heck” and then been disappointed with smelly nose and no body. I have. Lots. I don’t get that as much with some more “predictable” wines (R. Parker has a similar sensibility as I do). And at the end of the day, it’s what people enjoy, right? Sure, we should try lots of different wines, no doubt, but we should also drink what we dig (brought The Boxer to a wine shop owner’s house the other day–everyone fought over it, and ignored the French and Oregon PN). Rough episode.

QOTD: 1) don’t calm down (it’s what got you famous in the first place). 2) start adding food (other than cheese) to show what goes with what, esp. for wines during those episodes that you *know* rawk. 3) start tasting wines that you randomly pick from the “What I’m Drinking Now” area of the forum–try to get the forum more involved (you almost never mention the “community” aspect anymore, and to be honest, I haven’t been that involved myself–must have been that whole marriage thing…!). 4) Mix wines together to see what happens. Okay, that should do it–watch your ratings soar! 😀

  • Wayne Murray

I don’t buy any wine until it has passed over GV’s lips and pronouced 90 or higher by him. He is the equivalent of MAD MONEY’s Kramer (or is it Cramer?).

In Canada it can be difficult to find some of the wines but it is worth the search because I have a wine cabinet full of GV 90 or greater wines and I get compliments on my wine choices. If those compliments come from computer saavy friends I point them to TV.WineLibrary.com.

About 20 years ago I was gifted with a gift set of Porto Calem which was obviously quite expensive but I’ve never been able to find it again even on Wine Library. Has it gone to the great beyond?

Please, please, please, Gary advise storage time limits and food recommendations with your review.

Here is what I would like to see this show do.
    1. Gary do not change your personality! You speak your mind, love it! Like you’ve mentioned before there is not ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ people can form their own opinions on wine – big HOWEVER, you have the experience that most of us don’t!
    2. Segment more – for example do one week on a certain grape. Each day focus on one aspect or part of the world that does it different.
    3. Make a ‘crazy’ tasting chart – only you can do it Gary (sweaty jock strap -hahaha). send it out and have us use it for corked.
    4. I want to know about bottle shapes and corks and stoppers and twist off and cardboard boxed wine and all that new stuff we are seeing. Where is the wine world going? What does it all mean? and what will we be seeing in the future?

    Ciao

QOTD: I think you need to have another drink-along. And this time throw in something very common that everyone can find at their local wine shop, since not all of us have the good fortune of interstate liquor shipping.

  • Gary,
Here’s what I’d like to see:
    1. Add more education, e.g., info about grape variety, wine county or region, vineyard, etc. This can be done by having a program, e.g., on a single grape variety or country, wine region, vineyard, etc. I’m always looking for more wine knowledge, esp., finding great producers.
    2. Please continue to seek out the good wines in the $12-$50 range. Although I love them, I cannot afford to buy expensive Bordeaux or CA Cabs.
    3. Book Robert Parker
    4. Remain honest

QOTD: I liked the episode when you had some of the “behind the scenes” guys taste a wine and discuss it. Do that again except maybe with a few more wines. Bring in some of the other people at WLTV and taste through a few different wines. I think it’s be awesome to see the different flavors people are picking up.

QOTD: Well, come to think of it, I”ve always enjoyed the on-location Eps. that you’ve done- outside in the frigid cold, extreme heat, and I think that there are endless possibilities for where you can set up your table and camera and tape some on-location WLTV. SO– try to take the show… ANYWHERE- just get out of that office and see where you can go.

  • Orion Slayer

Great episode with several wines I’ve never heard of. Too bad Winelibrary doesn’t have a Kadarka to recommend.

QOTD: Add another section to the WineLibrary TV site: education. Organize it by country and offer content like “The Wine Bible” or “Oxford Companion to Wine.” When you feature a wine like Kadarka on the show, you can reference to education site where veiwers can learn more. This would be a lot of work, but it would be a great addition to the show. I’ll volunteer to help get it going!

Side note: Columbus doesn’t deserve the hate he has been receiving lately. There were NO saints in the discovery, exploration and settling of the US. Killing Indians was self defense, not genocide.

I didn’t appreciate the comment about Columbus. Better stick to wine or subjects where you know about. Columbus was the explorer, remember? You were probably thinking about Cortes, Pizarro or Gen. Custer. In any case, those were dark times and is not appropriate to judge (should I say misjudge) from our comfy chair while sipping wine.

I had to get it out of me…

gary, the only thing you could do with this show that would concern me would be to EVER listen to the people who tell you that you’ve got to tone it down/button it up. it’s pretty clear that you’re not a toned down person in ‘real life’, so make sure you don’t edit your content for the show. everybody’s way too homogenized nowadays.

as for other changes… what happened to casual friday? i liked seeing some questions answered. the idea of a ‘drink along’ also sounds really good. i guess we could always just go out and buy the bottle before we watch the show though!

    keep it up!
