Too bad about the wines this time around. . . . . !

Have had the Casa in the past and sometimes it ROCKS, and sometimes it blows, so i somewhat agree with you on that review. And yes, it’s really Bordeaux like in style no question about it!

First off great show idea Mr. Nagle.. Loved the premise and would love to see similar shows in the future, hopefully with some better wine..Second sounds like the angry E-mailer had his Private Molly Dooker tasting go straight to big fat new world head.Wow I’m truely impressed by the fact this person is the only guy in North America to have been picked to personally try all of the Molly Dooker lineup for the past two years(a little sarcasim).Ahh just kidding to each his own if you like the dookers enjoy!!! For you they sound like they have an extremely good QPR. Any way great show.QOTD Me and the wife went to this Brazilian steakhouse a few weeks back, where they bring you all the meat you can eat sliced tableside and a fancy buffet as well.Food was good the wine list was way over priced the service was Ok ,for the price it was a major let down and a Pazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

hey man, have to stop my morning GV boost and write in response to the email letter you addressed at the beginning of the show. Agree with you 100%, but my only problem with the comparison in the MD show (and with the response to the email) was that you didn’t actually compare Boxer from ’06 to the ’05 vintage. It was the scooter, two left feet, and cabernet–not the Boxer, which is the comparison that would make sense (IMHO)? Possible mini-episode could involve same wine makers (Shirvington vs. Enchanted Path vs. Sarah’s Lost Highway Project vs. fill in the blank–or perhaps a two-year vertical?) Let’s face it: Mollydooker has become something of a religion among a lot of folks. That said, well, the writer of that email must’ve had a glass or two of MD (mad dog?) himself before flaming your @ss. As for cutting off your allocation because you disagreed with their ’06? LMAO. That’s like saying that because you’re against the Iraq war, you’re not patriotic. Oh, wait, did I just type that out loud?? 😉

    Dude gartissorry.com is classic 🙂
But next time would to tell us how you feel….I was a little unclear 😉

The show concept was a solid rec even though the wines did not deliver.
Sometimes you have all the elements in life to make something special and it just doesn’t come through.
Which leads me to my QOTD:
I went to San Diego over the weekend to go on a fishing trip with some family and friends. 34 guys only 4 fish 🙁

Thanks for pre-taping 4 shows while you are in hungary that shows a true dedication and it is always appreciated.

Fun show as always. Fun for my broke self to see that expensive wines don’t always bring the thunder.

QOTD: I’ve been relatively free from disappointment lately (since The Cat Empire show I went to see last week completely blew away all my expectations…) But going back a little while in history, I saw a Death Cab For Cutie show last year that was kind of disappointing, they just kind of played their songs without any extra performance flair. Can’t win’em all.

Recommendation: I recently tried the Bonny Doon ‘Ca del Solo Sangiovese 2003, and I thought it was a lot of fun. I’d love to know what you think.

interesting idea for the show. never would have thought to try that on my own. too bad the wines didn’t step up. QOTD: the performance of Everton playing against Real Salt Lake. sad when i’d rather watch the Everton fans slowly slink out of the bar as opposed to actually watching the game.

How DARE you not love the Marquisdooker! Were all those points cast in vain?

QOD: I’m disappointed in the wine lists I kept running into over my vacation. And I’m disappointed that the big honking sale’s in July when it’s too hot to ship, but hey, that’s a minor quibble.

I just heard your man, Curtis Martin, is retiring. Maybe a show featuring 28 Bone Wines?

    Sad day.

Hey Gary (u know me from facebook),

How you doing? Here goes nothing. There are 2 primary wines I love. 1) Spanish wine: “RIOJA”, Gran Reserva, Red wine – Marques de Caceres – 2000 (35$ Canadian),SPAIN (mainly Tempranillo,I really like it; 2)Argentina white wine: ETCHART CAFAYATE, TORRONTES PRIVADO 2006 (around 13$ Canadian), I love this white and each time I want to try something new, I always come back to this one, I simply adore it and combined with sushi, its sooo yummy. Then one day to try something new; I tried 2 more that are ok to me: 1)ORANGIER DE PENNAUTIER 2005, Red Wine, Nicolas de Lorgeril, bottled at Chateau de Pennautier, France (around 16$ Can., I don’t really remember), usually I dont like French but this one was pretty good; 2)TOMMASI VITICOLTORI, “LE ROSSE” – PINOT GRIGIO 2006, Delle Venezie, White wine, Italy; to my surprise it wasn’t all that bad either, so there, for now that’s all I have to share with you. There are also deserts wine ciders (served cold) that I love from Domaine Pinnacle & Neige, check it out – very yummy, have a nice day Gary and I always enjoy your shows, keep it up,

    NADINE 🙂

  • Did a big badge on my blog to show my support and I tell everyone to meet to check out WLTV. Fun education with humor is the best, don’t get too nerdy!
QOTD: We took a trip to San Francisco in May and spent a day in Napa and Sonoma and I had high expectations that were not met. I was much more impressed with the local family growers in Tuscany that we saw in 2004. They were all about the grape and not the $$.

    Have a great trip.

Gary, take time to relax at the Hotel Gellert in Budapest. That place is an old world palace. Get a Turkish massage by a large man. You will come back to the US of A a new man.

QOTD…my coffee this morning really disappointed me. It had chunks of papaya or peanut in it. It was pretty gross.

hahaha…. thanks big G, i had the similar views towards the 2001 Leeuwin. i can say it is one of my disappointment of the year when i tasted it. the pallete didn’t match the nose & bit too bitter & rough on the finish… and i thought as well a 88pts…… therefore nice work brother, let’s keep it up.

QOTD actually nothing to say….. everything i see is a possibility to do better…..

Gary, your show is never a let down. Also, some people may watch with either 1) the hope that you will help them to discover a new wine, or 2) to hear you agree with them. I think the first goal is worthy, but I actually prefer it when your pallete is different than mine. I already know what I think, but sometimes hearing somebody else’s opinion makes me think and discover things to which I was not paying attention in the first place. Maybe it will make me change my mind; maybe it won’t. Either way, that exploration is what makes wines interesting. That’s why no matter how delicious a “one dimensional” wine may be, it is still boring. So…know that not everyone is as closed minded as the person that wrote the letter. If all you ever did was agree with everyone, what would be the point of watching the show? Only insecure, closed minded people have to have everyone agree with them all the time. As Walter Lipman stated, “Where all think alike, no one thinks very much.”

Funny that someone would accuse you of being profoundly stupid (over a mere wine rating) and then go and wish for the distributors to cut you off. What does he want you to do, adjust your scores depending on the clout of the distributor? I hope you can continue to ignore that kind of comment. As you know, what we really appreciate is your honest opinion, even if we don’t agree 100 percent.

QOTD: Didn’t like my Wagyu beef sirloin last weekend. Highly rated by the WSJ a few months ago, but it was a little tough. Very surprising. A cheap, frozen steak from Key Food that I cooked at the same time was better.

  • I know that this is not what you wanna hear, but I’m going to say it anyway: I trust my own palate, but I also trust you! To me, you’re an authority based on your indisputable experience. I respect you a lot, and up to this day, I cannot express any emotion other than gratefulness for ALL that you do for your Vaniacs and this great podcast. When I saw both shows on the Mollydookers, I was smart enough to comment that because of the way you so honestly described them, I felt “lured” to try them out myself. Either which way, you’re providing incentive for sales, even though that is NOT what your show is about. I appreciate what you so honestly do. Keep it up!

QOTD: The 2004 Saint Veran White Burgundy I had on Saturday .

Talk about the OAK MONSTER it was like sucking on an oak plank.
The most over oaked wine I every had and I thought France wouldn’t do that to me.

QOTD – A PN called ‘Sea Smoke Southing’ — heard of it? Rather disappointing, hoping age will help the rest of the allocation.

Interesting episode. Points out the mind field we walk in selecting a 40-60$
cab (or any variatal). The possibility of getting a very mediocre wine at a premium price makes me shy away, and stay with my 15-25$ safe bets.

  • Gary, the Harry Potter wild goose chase through 5 different URL’s was a nice change up. But crazy, man. Did the housekeeper accidentally throw away your bottle of Ritalin? Seriously, thanks for all the video love you’re showing everybody. You’re stumbling through this online world like the rest of us, and it’s a lot of fun to watch.
