Too bad about the wines this time around. . . . . !

Have had the Casa in the past and sometimes it ROCKS, and sometimes it blows, so i somewhat agree with you on that review. And yes, it’s really Bordeaux like in style no question about it!

Thanks for this interesting episode. May I suggest a vertical tasting of a specific popular wine as a possiblity for a special episode …would give the opportunity for the some searious lecturing on wine aging, especially if the wine is known to vary a lot from year to year (e.g., Ch Musar).

    Cheers…

QOTD: I’m happy to say, I have not been very disappointed in anything in the past two weeks. Maybe I just have low expectations!!
    Have a great trip 🙂

  • Hooler

Good job keeping your composure Gary. It’s amazing how people could watch and comment on your show but still don’t get the concept.
Sounds like your critic is also drinking the Mollydooker Kool-Aid.

  • Grape Expectations

Good episode. I love the concept.

Is it ever valid to criticize someone else’s taste?? Everyone has the right to like what they like and, in the words of the old jazz standard “it ain’t nobody’s business” what they like.

QOTD: Not having a beautiful sunny summer evening for the k.d. lang/Lyle Lovett concert on the grounds of Chateau Ste. Michelle winery. I had planned to enjoy the music and sip some Nellie’s Garden Dry Rosé. Instead I had to huddle under my poncho and figure out how to keep my wine from getting watered down. It poured down rain the whole time! Ah well, at least the music was great.

Great show, Gary!!! As always, your honesty intrigues…

Hey, watched tonight’s show with my friend, John. Impressed (and new to WLTV), he asked me how often you post a show. When I told him every night, he replied, “Every night? Damn! He’s like the Jay Leno of wine!” I thought that would make you smile!!!! : )

QOTD: The ride home from the last NYC WLTV on-line. I almost hit a deer on the way home. : (

Great show as always. I also would have liked to learn a bit more about the differences in regions and winemaking techniques. QOTD: a 2003 Palacios Remondo Rioja Propiedad H. Remondo I had this weekend. Was all heat and the fruit seemed faded…

    Good episode, Gary.

I have to say that I have a soft spot for Isole e Olena. I met Paolo di Marchi (owner and winemaker of Isole) a few years back at a tasting. He was one of the most humble and unassuming people I’ve ever met… He has a genuine love for what he does and (in a good vintage) his wines display power along side finesse. I have some of his 1999 cab and the 1999 and 1998 Ceparello in my cellar. The man himself is a little slice of Tuscan wine history as some credit him for being the one to introduce Syrah to Itallian soil. Got a bottle of that left, too!

I think I’ll go open a bottle of his Chianti right now, actually…. Good drinking to you all, and Gary… yes. If we ever do hook up, let’s share a bottle and shoot the breeze.

  • Dude…watch yourself evaluate the Santa Rita again…the ‘lack of delicious factor’ is going to bother some people.
    I’ll paraphrase:

Hell, the wine would taste great if it wasn’t plagued by such a rank palate! Interesting and full of character, but unfortunately tastes like ass…

  • Gary Gary Gary!

Thank you again for picking my show idea today – after three months of waiting it came in from left field and hit me on the head…. well, the show did but not the wines (not your fault!)

I allready thanked you, but I did not cooperate and leave my comment available for public view.

QOTD times two: 2006 Mollydooker THE BOXER!!! How about that Gary, I thought it was a waste of an Andrew Jackson for such an over oaked monster of an Oak Monster. It tasted like oak and molasses, with no fruit reconizable.

The Oak Monster did what we all fear the most – he beat the poor fruit flavors beyond recognition. This was literally a crime scene in my mouth, dusted with sugar.

I wish you the BEST, Big G., when taping the next four episodes of this week after you taped #279 today. As always, I’ll be looking forward to them.

QOTD: One of the easiest to answer in a while: To preface, I’m an aspiring comedian, and was looking to try my hand at an open-mike comedy night at a local Boston club, so I went just to watch the weekly show last night to get a feel for the crowd and the comics. I was looking SO forward to it… and it turned out to be HORRENDOUS! I expected many of the comedians to be pretty bad because they, like me, are relatively inexperienced. But many of them were BAAAD, and then the host just got more and more drunk as the night went on and a heckler and one of the comics were going at it. At that point the show became less about comedy and more about flexing beer muscles. (if only they were all drinking wine instead…)
Anyway, I left early and met up with some friends at a breast cancer benefit at a local bar, which was a lot of fun and saved the night (my raffle ticket won a $50 gift certificate!) Sorry for going on, but thanks for asking.

Seemed like all these wines needed either a few more years in bottle, or maybe some air time to open up (or, dare I say, a little visit from the Clef du Vin). Quite disappointing (the wines, not the episode).

    Gary,

garyissorry.com was fantastic. I especially liked the “jumping the shark” episode and the nerd boy episode. Those rank up there with the end of episode #275 where I swore you were about to grab the camera in your awesome and passionate response to Melissa’s question.

    Have fun in Hungary.

It’s about time for the whole world to know about the “Wine of kings, the king of wines”, the Tokaji Aszu!

Enjoy – you’ll fall in love with them -, but be careful in the 300-400 year old cellars: it’s easy to go down, but to come-up… will test you.

QOTD:Napa wine country. The traffic was worse than LA at rush hour. The resturants were also packed to the walls, hour and a half waits. Nothing romantic or quaint about the place. The wine is more expensive there than at the store. A real tourist trap if there ever was one. They make some great wine there, but the visit was a major let down.

  • Your reviews will have impact on your viewers even if you nag about “your own personal taste”, and newworld-fruitbomb-oakmonster lovers will get offended and feel that their palate has been under-rated.

The truth is that all enophiles I know has had a “newworld” phase, but eventually they all turn Old world! And hense your personal points-rating will probably be agreed on in a few years by your critics. What goes around, comes…

(There´s also an age factor; as the tastebuds begins too deteriorate (50+), new world wines still tastes alot, but you´ll miss out on the finer elements on many old world wines.)

  • Yay! SF Vaynerglass!

QOTD: Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson recently visited the small town I live in. I went early to help set up, and I even helped them take things down once it was over, but I have to admit that I wasn’t impressed with the guy at all. And he had been one of my top two choices. I really like some of his policies, but the very next day I signed on with the Obama campaign as an intern, and I’ll be working with them until the caucus is over at the end of next January. Richardson lost me.
