Gary, you always say to trust your palate, so I’m going to take you up on it. I’m going to agree with Vayniac Tim and say that I have had the ’03 Guigal CDP, and thought it was excellent – perhaps not warranting the 95 score, but absolutely better than the mediocre score and especially the quadruple “z” Passs you gave it. I just don’t understand your review given the highly interesting description of funk, earth, spice and other components you described and normally love. What happened to trying and loving wines that are different than the run of the mill? I also find it amusing how people are prone to jumping on the bandwagon and bashing Guigal as soon as someone says it’s not great or “not as good as it used to be” – ususally because it is hard to believe he could produce high quality wine at high volumes. And does no one but me remember the phenomenal 93 point review you gave of the 2003 Guigal Cote Rotie in Ep#293?!? Enough rant. VERY excited and thank you very much for the fabulous review on the PEGAU. I have been a huge fan ever since the ’89, and its kind of sad to see the price is creeping up. So glad I pony’d up and bought a bottle last week because it will probably go quickly now – especially given that it got a high score from WS in addition to Parker.

Woah…I like the show more when GV looks like he’s having fun. It’s been a couple of weeks, but it looks like he’s back.

Great show Gary!! Been trying more CDPs lately, problem is the good ones are rather pricey.

    Good show!
I am a vertical collector of the Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe (only back to 1998, but I have had the 1988 also). I was a fan of the E. Guigal, too bad this vintage might have been weak. I also have the Domaine du Pegau – I thnk the vintage is the 2000.
All three wines you showed are from great producers.

Nicest thing that I have done lately – continued to financially support 2 people in developing countries and a homeless shelter in Worceter, MA.

    Gary,
Lay off Tony Gwynn. Not sure where you’re coming from on that one. You seriously prefer FOX and Tim McCarver?

Sorry about the Jets, as a long time Browns fan welcome to our typical NFL season. Keep up the good work.

    Did I miss anything?

Absent the last month or so following Chris Mott’s idol around the country and dealing with the aftershock of the firm I work for IPOing on NYSE.

I’m just catching up on WLTV, sorry the Jets are so disappointing. Gary, there’s always next decade.

Next shows are Albany and then the US closer in Boston later in the month (skipping the midwest like most of culture does)

Don’t know why the comment was cut off… where was I?

I’m glad I’m commenting now when no one will see it after that last crack.

QOTD: Penn Sta. 7:45AM, this morning. Little old lady struggling to move a suitcase up the stairs leading from LIRR/NJ transit onto the “E” platform. Hordes of people streaming by. I grabbed the bag and huffed it up the stairs. Effusive thank yous ensued. It felt good for a fleeting moment to have another human see me as my dog does.

Live get’s in the way, I’ll check in when I can but it doesn’t make me any less of a fan. Keep on bring it.

I’m having my first Chat-de-Pape as I rewatch this episode. It’s 2004 Clos Saint Michel. It’s dry, oaky and tannic and I like it a lot. I’ll save same for tomorrow to see how it turns out. Though I like it a lot it doesn’t really matter. It’s not in my price range. There are wines half the price that I also like a lot.

With all the episodes that youve had a Chateauneuf Du Pape on, ive yet to try one. Youve talked up the area quite a bit and I know its a place for me to focus on in the future. QOTD: Listening to friends when they have problems. I know it may sound cheesy, but for some reason I seem to be able to put them at ease and if I can help out a friend thats a good thing.

I had the bottle of E.Guigal last night at Hugo’s Frog Bar in Chicago. They charged 86 bones for it. I thought it was a tad high even for restaurants to be charging that much for that bottle. It was okay, I didn’t have as much disdain for it as you apparently did above, but at best it was in the 88-89 range. The wine has sat for another two years now since you tried it in this episode….I thought it was just okay, I’ve had far worse.
