I can’t say I’ve done anything particularly nice today. I haven’t erred though to the opposite extreme. I have yet to sweat profusely in a publicly discomfiting manner. I moved to the center of the car when I entered the train. I didn’t remain seated on the train and pretend to nap with the bulge of a pregnant woman’s belly centimeters from my nose. I didn’t peel a hard-boiled egg in my stuffy office. Nor did I clip my fingernails waiting in a coffee line. I didn’t even tap into the base of a light pole and plug in a back massager for a quick session of lumbar therapy.

That’s 2 Guigal’s I’ve seen you review & pazzz on. Not a good trend for Guigal.

QOTD: Staying home with my sick baby, instead of making my wifey wife stay home with him.

Bringing the Pape. Too bad about the Guigal – I’m a big fan of his Cotes du Rhone ’03 – great late night, shit I forgot to get some juice, grocery store wine or cheap restaurant buy. Balanced as all get out.

QOTD – called my little sister to cheer her up, worked late for a co-worker so that they could get some lady action, rubbed my girlfriends feet with no reciprocation. I’m a goddamn sweetheart.

Go Raiders! Bring it LT. We’re ready.

  • I’m not surprised about the Guigal. CdP has had a tough time in very hot vintages – ’98, ‘000, ’03 – perhaps as a result of trying to make those “American” wines. They are often overripe, with low acidity AND low tannic structure, leaving the wines way out of balance, and often getting worse as they get on in years, despite the fact that pundits rate the vintages highly. this problem seemed to arise first in 1998 and seems to be a major southern rhone concern.

    Go Chat Neuf!
I sent your video to my room mate, who is interested in getting into wine. Thanks for the free shipping/ discount coupon, but I have to say, I had a little trouble getting the bag sent to my girlfriend’s place in Connecticut (I live in Massachusetts). Every time I go to checkout, my cart is cleared. How do I ship to another person’s address?

QOTD: Yesterday I saved a bucket of kittens from a racist driving a refrigerated truck. At first I was just offended by his speech, but I knew I had to do something when he started heading for the kitten farm.

I am a big fan of the Rhone & am putting the Pegau on the “To Do” list.

QOTD – Solved a significant scientific problem for a friend with a bit internet research & a good spreadsheet
    (so nerdy, I know ….)

First off Thanks Jeff from Cleveland!

QOTD: I’m currently waiting on my vacation to Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona, but had a great inexpensive Chilean Cabernet called Root:1 that I think was pretty nice. Especially with some good spicy rubbed fish and a great bell pepper pesto sauce.

CdP Pegau rocks, got some 98 and 03, after the review, looks like I’m getting some ’04. Good tip, though I’ve definetly switched side from the confederate Rhône to the Yanks thanks to the V. His advice led me to taste the Guigal Brune et Blonde Côte Rôtie which convinced me to drive through the area on a recent trip to FRA. I love syrah, when it’s from the right place.

Dude from clevland, you’re RAD, I’m going to queue (sp?) up one of those carry cases thanks to you.

nice things done: bought pizza for everyone at work yesterday because it was someones last day, some other nice soul brought desert.

From a few episodes ago..Latest Transition wine: Joh.Jos.Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese 2005. Golden straw color and big aromas. Peach brulée, mineralish, flower nectar that is more supple and refined than honey could ever be, citrus leaning toward tangerine-oarange, amazing balance of acidity and sweetness. It finishes with a lot of spice. Perfect balance and grace. This wine has completely changed my opinion of sweet reisling. This wine was absolutely perfect. It didn’t have too much of anything but had just the right amount of everything. 97+.

QOTD: So I have been traveling a lot for work this year and as a result, accumulating a lot of hotel points. In the meantime, my father was talking about going to Vegas for years, but never went. So I get a call from Hilton saying that I could have a trip to Vegas for $100 when it was originally $450 (just for the hotel for 4 days 3 nights). I ended up giving the trip to my father since he has been talking about it for so long. I figure that if he didn’t just plan it, he would never go. So that is the good thing I did recently.

Good show. The Pegau sounds awesome, but is well beyond my price range. However, I guess this is a place where our palates differ, because I have had the 2003 Guigal CdP recently and absolutely loved it. I thought the velvety mouthfeel was exceptional and far from being annoyed by the unusual flavor profile, I found it intriguing, but I guess that’s what makes horse races.

QOTD – Held my 19 year old cat in my arms while the vet put him to sleep. Good bye old buddy!

Overheard a family trying to explain to my office staff they were from a town 150 miles away and were not aware of the cost to have their mother seen by me. I told my staff to show them to a room. I saw the 83 year old mother and sched. her vascular reconstruction, even though they have insuff. funds to pay me. The 85 year old husband hugged and thanked me. Rare event in my practice who feel doctors owe them free care.

Guigal, the producer that ruined this region. Have never been a big fan of their wines. Brought the new world, California, style to the region and in my humble opinion, ruined the wines in the region. Has been over rated for years. But no one will aknowledge this except you. I miss the old style of wine. So do not buy any expensive wines anymore.

  • Gary! I’ve never tried a Chateauneuf Du Pape (Only really been drinking wine for about a year and half now.) Tomorrow, I’m going for it, and it’s all thanks to this episode.

QOTD: I bought my dad the new Eric Clapton autobiography yesterday.
