Good show.. Gary, continue doing the “120 seconds of something else” on youtube.. that was fun too. Now I know why you think ijustine (justine E) is one of the top video blogs.. DAMN!! One last comment.. London must have rubbed off on you.. now you are calling yourself a “chap”.. funny.. Oh yeah.. forgot.. just tried an “old world style” wine for the first time.. WOW.. that is different.. can’t say there was much “thunder” but it was a good learning experience.. also, it didn’t have time to breath so I’m sure it was a very very different taste.. I can now understand the poop, dirt, and all the other fun tastes in wine.. if you are tired of the JETS.. come on over to the winning side.. GO COLTS!! You have an open invitation to a COLTS game.. my treat.. Red Rover, Red Rover, Send Gary V on over….

Tried to pick up the bag a few times. Last night shipping was still being charged. Today, I get through the whole process to the check out password page. After I put in my password, it tells me the cart is empty. Tried several times and still had the same problem. Will try again later. Hopefully its just me doing something stupid, but if not, you know, heads up.

Great ep! What happened to the sound quality, though? Didja lose your directional mic? Could hear the cameraman’s breathing throughout, against a background of a soft fall Jersey breeze playing through the room. 😉

Great episode! Dude, I guessed 94+ on the last wine, and am usually 70% on your ratings. Here’s what I suggest: Do episodes where you “black out” the rating (perhaps play a screenshot or something with elevator music), and then you come back. Folks guess your ratings. Then those who guessed right get, um, some sort of, er, trinket. Or something. Free Shipping! I dunno. Heh.

    Cheers, bro.

Thanks Jeff! and thanks for playing Santa Gary! now if only the winelibrary site would let me put an order through…

QOTD: The nicest thing I’ve done lately? I don’t like patting myself on the back, but when Gary wants to know I guess I can… My friend is moving this weekend and although I’d super sad to see her go, I’ve helped her pack, thrown her a dinner party and put together a photo album with pics of our crew for her. But I dont think that deserves a medal or anything.

Great episode! This past weekend I had a bottle (Chateauneuf Du Pape) with baked goat cheese and wild mushrooms – fantastic!

The most interesting part was watching you articulate your feelings about Wine # 2 – the “awkward” wine.
My favorite line? When you shouted: “NOT EVERY WINE I DON’T LIKE IS AN OFF-BOTTLE, PEOPLE!!”
Another nice line: “We’re changing the wine world (whispering:)and nobody’s gonna stop us.”

QOTD: I know a little old lady who had a pretty bad fall last week. When I found out, the person who told me said the lady mentioned me, wondering if I knew about the accident. So yesterday, I stopped what I was doing and gave her a call. She was shocked to hear from me, since I’ve never done that before. Our chat really seemed to brighten her day. Mine, too.

  • Yo, lovin the CdP…. Had a 2000 St.Siffrein a couple of weeks back. Super. Dug the barnyard funkiness…..

QOTD: Feel a little funny about patting myself on the back, but….. I participate in a fly tying forum and a guy stationed in a small mountain troop in Afghanistan posted saying he was thinking of getting into fly tying to pass the down-time. Got his APO address and sent him a large box of hooks, materials, books, etc. The least I could do.

Great show. Guigal – tar, barnyard, terrior, rasberries…sounds like what CDP used to be before they were “kangarooed”.

Can you do a show about ageability? You thought the Pegau would cellar for 10+ years…Parker indicates 3 decades. Is it just a guess from the feel of the tannins and the amount of initial fruit?

QOTD: Hired someone that I thought deserved a chance. It didn’t work out but I felt good knowing I tried.

Love CdP wine and really can’t get enough of it. Loved the episode. Thanks, Gary

  • I have older versions of all 3 wines and look forward to getting the 2004 Vieux Telegraphe but not Telegrame and the Pegau. I have experienced bottle variation with Chateau Neuf de Pape though. At the Santa Fe Wine and Chile Fiesta they were pouring the 1996 Beaucastle and 2 bottles were very off and two others were terrific but I’m in total agreement on the Guigal. The last 3 vintages I have tasted were not worth the price. By the way I gave everyone at the Wine and Chile Fiesta your URL especially the distributors and many of them already knew about you. What have I done nice lately. A couple friends of ours were down in the dumps about family problems so to cheer them up I made Osso Buco and opened 2 bottles of 1986 Chateau Lafitte I had been saving for a special occasion. If that wasn’t I don’t know what. A killer evening and they were cheered as were we all after 2 bottles of a great wine.

  • GV – Thanks for doing a CDP show and teasing me with the sweet, sweet Pegau.

Good topic, Gary. Read the wsj lately? I think that people find reason to complain about the prices by comparing them to other Rhone wines. Yet they don’t immediately compare the $30-$60 dollar California cabs with their neighboring $10 lot. Old region, antidiluvian vines- the naysayers are missing out.

QOTD: I was walking down the street and there was a woman with a stroller trying to get into a kids clothing store and she couldn’t open the door, so I helped her in.

    Sniffy, sniff, ..nifff, NERFFF, nifff…

QOTD, was out shopping and a guy from out of town asked directions to somewhere on my way home, so instead of telling him where to go I gave him a lift. It’s the little things that make a difference.
