Do another Madiran show, especially considering the recent findings of the unusually potent health benefits of Madiran wines. http://www.brainready.com/blog/french_madiran_w...

My favorite wine is from Brasil:

Nice to see a show on Tannat. I'm from Argentina and the only other south american wines I've had outside of Chilean and Argentine wines are Uruguayan. I am becoming a big fan of Uruguayan Tannats.

Oh and BTW, I saw a lot of references to Mexico in these comments. Come on people, Mexico is part of North America, together with the US and Canada.

Funny you mention calling someone I havent talked to in a long time because Im doing that later. She means a lot to me so it will be great to hear her voice again. Also on the Iron Shiek..... yeah that poor guy has totally lost his marbles. I know what youre talking about and thats some crazy ----. Its sad that the only real reason people have him on shows is to see his reactions to questions and whatnot. Just dont mention Brian Blair! QOTD: Thats a big ol' goose egg, 10-4.

  • yowens
dude, are there countries in south america outside of Argentina and Chile?
  • Logan
Wow just checked out the Iron Sheik video. He really doesn't respect that guy, but other than that it was evidently a "great night." Hahaha.
  • Tyler Walker
i dont even know where to start....do they make wine in patagonia?
  • QOTD: Never had a wine from S. America not from the big 2.
  • Susan
Gary & Mott, Did not realize you were also running a traveling/tour service at WL!!!!!! lol :)
  • Susan
Gary & Mott, Would love to visit South America as well!!!! HInt!!! HInt!!!!! :)
  • Question OTD: Can't say that I have...

    Quote OTD: "Dark Night"
  • The couch returns, don't keep it so long next time please..

Not had it yet, but waiting for a year or two is Cata Mayor 2006 Tannat - Uruguay.
  • Jason S.
QOTD: Sorry, don't have anything to add here.

Liked the little hiccup/burp in the middle there! Sweeeet.
  • Christine
QOTD: I enjoy Argentinian Malbecs. The majority I've tried have been delicious!
  • wannaBconnoisseur
Would like to try some tannat!

Q- I got nothing outside of Chile or Arg.
  • Hido
QOTD: Can't remember the winery names, but I've had some Argentinian Malbecs and Chilean Cabs in the past. VEry well made, serious reds, with good price points.

Great to see the "layed-back Friday couch" make a long-awaited reappearance! It deserves more air time! Waiting for more head-to-head contests as well! Those were very good shows. Same varietal, different regions/terroir/winemaking styles . . .
  • I think the only wine I've had from SA other than Argentina or Chile is from Uruguay, and some were Tannat (also had Merlot).

I actually learned about Tannat from drinking Virginia wines. There are a few good ones here and sometimes, not being so extremely extracted or aggressive in tannins can be an advantage for that grape.

Spent the whole weekend with my Girlfriend's family, so there were not 'catch-up' calls, but we had a nice time and tried some wines...
  • */^_^\*
wait...wait....i don't know what to do

LAID BACK couch.....i think should make an appearance at least once every 4.3 episodes
  • SoCal
QOTD: have not had any outside of the big two.
  • Jesús Bastidas
South-South > Tannat - Don Pascual, E. Juanico - Uruguay. Great with red meat!!!

South > Tempranillo - Bodegas Pomar - Venezuela. Great with red meat too!!!
  • Johnny C. a.k.a SmokinActuary
I have never had a Tannat nor have I had an SA wine from outside the big two.
  • mike76
never had a tannat, will have to be on the lookout. Also haven't had a wine from south america outside of argentina or chile.
  • ChezJim
I will have to seek out a Tannat.

QOTD: Like many here, I have only had wine from the big two in SA.
  • pawncop
Good episode - as always, giving me new types to try.

QOTD - So far - only Chile and Argentina - and that was with your encouragement!
  • Bob
Tried tannat at a winery in Uraguay about 4years ago. Bought 2 bottles home. Really needs bottle age, but for $13. per bottle a real steal
  • LauraG
QOTD: Hmmmm. Had to dig deep for this one. My favorites have been another Uruguayan Tannat, and believe it or not, a Brazilian sparkler, neither producer of which I am able to recall.
  • TG
There is another great Tannat from Uruguay, its brand is "Don Pascual Reserva" from Juanicó cellar.
I have tried a very good uruguaian wine for dessert or a summer sunset; it is the "Rendibu" from Toscanini cellar.
  • JeffC
QOTD: nope, I havent try anything other than Chile and Argentia, for South America.
  • Scott EJ
Tannat can be such an odd wine. The tannins are so hard to work with. However, like so many wines like this, when they're good, they're really good.

    Enjoy India.
  • I will definitely pick up a bottle of this if I see it around. Gotta love the couch.
  • Couch! Tannat!

QOTD - South American not from C or A?! Don't have one - must explore.
  • Jayhitek
QOTD: Can never remember the names..
But the Iron Sheik videos are always great. Even funnier when they have him on Howard Stern and he talks about buying crack or weed off other wrestlers.
  • Rick O'Shea
Glad to see the couch back!
  • Dan Manu
I was traveling around Sth America last year and most wines outside of Chile and Argentina that I tried were quite poor. I did like quite a few from Pica in Peru... Sorry can't remember the names but that seemed like a good quality area to me
  • jason
QOTD - can't go there, wish i could, but S. america is limited for me. i have had a ton of madiran though
  • QOD: Layer Cake Malbec 2007 (Argentina)

I just tried this one last week, I rated it an 84. I did pick up another Malbec from Argentina to taste the difference a couple days ago, it was much better (88 from me). I wish I could remember the name, picked it up at Trader Joe's.
  • QOTD: I've only had one, I cant remember the name, but it was from Peru. I tjink.
