EP 575 A mixed bag of wine. Alsace, Beaujolais and the Rhone valley.

Gary Vaynerchuk tries 3 very interesting wines in a format he is far more accustomed to. The format you see today is reminiscent to the way Gary and many other wine buyers BUY wine for their establishments!

Wines tasted in this episode:

2006 Albrecht Gewurztraminer ReserveAlsace Gewurztraminer
St. Cosme St James Little Basket PressOther Rhone Red Wine
2005 Potel-aviron Moulin A Vent VvCru Beaujolais

  • My question for your QOTD is actually twofold:
1 – What was the first wine you ever tasted?
2 – I think everyone who tastes wine has an “a-ha” moment, where they “get it.” The moment where they first taste those nuances without being told about them, where they can detect all the inherent elements in the aromatics, etc. When was your “a-ha” moment?

I know you’ve talked about your origins before, but I’m not sure I’ve ever heard you talk about this part of your origins.

Have fun on the train trek. I ride them all the time out here in California. It’s a great way to relax, see the countryside and enjoy some wine.

QOTD – Have you tasted much Pinot Blanc and if you have, what’ your favorite?

  • Gary,

Question #1: “If you could have one guest on Winelibrarytv from pro wrestling past or present, or your favorite NFL star past or present – who would it be and why?

Question #2: “What were the exact words that came out of your mouth (or inside your head), when your Dad took you down to make ice for the store for the first time?”

Also, thanks for the Bojolay love. Love that the good stuff is where it is in price.

  • QOTD: Gary, if we were relaxing over a glass of wine I would just ask “how are you? How was your day?” and let the conversation flow.

Gary, Let’s all go to Beaujolais and check out the Cote du Py. Are you a Wes Anderson fan? If not why not? Rushmore and The Life Aquatic demand your attention. What is your take on Mondovino? I received it as a gift recently and watched it four times! All the best.

    Gary,

I’ll see you on the Thunder Cruise and ask this question again, but since you asked it for the QOTD, here goes:

Since our palates are different and we value different depths of flavors in wines, break down for me what is your favorite flavor profile from your favorite wine, and then I will do the same.

    See you by April,
    Karl B.

    Gary –

Great show! While the guest shows of late have been epic, I still feel the shows in which you break wines down are the most entertaining and informative! With all due respect to your guests, you, and only you, set the bar as far as bringing the Thunder goes!
QOTD: What’s next for you as far as Wine Library goes? You’ve been instrumental in building the business up to it’s current size and you’ve created this wildly entertaining and informative forum (WLTV), and you’re even taking it offshore for crying out loud!(the Thunder Cruise, which I unfortunately cannot attend). . . so what’s next?

Hey Gary – its been a while! Sorry! Great to see you pump good Beaujolais. Reminds me of a Sylvian Fessy cru bottling I bought a case of 20 years ago that completely blew me away + changed my perceptions about wine probably more than any other single bottle I have ever tasted. Stunning stuff! Keep up the good work!
