My question for your QOTD is actually twofold:
1 – What was the first wine you ever tasted?
2 – I think everyone who tastes wine has an “a-ha” moment, where they “get it.” The moment where they first taste those nuances without being told about them, where they can detect all the inherent elements in the aromatics, etc. When was your “a-ha” moment?

I know you’ve talked about your origins before, but I’m not sure I’ve ever heard you talk about this part of your origins.

QOTD : What is your favourite cheese? Mine’s melted!

QOTD: when you and Lizzy go out to a restaurant with a extensive list that impresses you, do you A.] ignore everyone at the table and study the list for half an hour or B.] take a recommendation from either the server or the somm.

awesome show today i really enjoyed the format, im big on the alsacion and rhone wines but i think ive had only one cru beaujulais so i will be looking to check out more of that.

Hey Gary – its been a while! Sorry! Great to see you pump good Beaujolais. Reminds me of a Sylvian Fessy cru bottling I bought a case of 20 years ago that completely blew me away + changed my perceptions about wine probably more than any other single bottle I have ever tasted. Stunning stuff! Keep up the good work!

QOTD: How often do you get a corked wine on the show? I’ve never heard you mention it, so you must replace one with a second bottle before taping. What happens when you don’t have a replacement bottle?

QOTD: Considering that you have grown up (mostly) in the USA, how do you perceive Russian arts (ex. have you seen (liked) A.Tarkovsky movies, have you read (liked) Solzhenitsyn, have you had interest to see (or have seen) Red Army Choir,…).
