Good show! Interesting guest. I really like Germans, their culture, their food, and their white wines!

QOTD – It is hard for me to say. I have not met that many FEMALE wine makers that I would call sexy, but that may mean that my exposure to them is limited.

    QOTD: Hells yes!!

I know I’m way late, almost a month on my viewing and commenting on this episode…but hey I lived in Italy for awhile and that’s just the way I roll. Anywho I’m really happy you did this episode when you did, I am currently living in Munich and am now certain that I must make a trip over to the west and see firsthand what german wine culture’s all about…because here there’s a serious (and disappointing) lack of wine culture…i guess no surprise considering the munich’s reputation as one of the beer capitals of the world… :-/

First off, let me say I am a HUGE fan. It’s probably just that I’m pretty new to the show. I’ve only watched about thirty so far, but I’m curious. Did you ask him if he would do another show if he is ever in the area? Did he say yes or did he run away screaming? I mean you owe it to yourself and all of your fans to be honest in your critique, but man that was brutal. Anywho, I actually thought the idiomatic English was funny and I’m sure he appreciated finding out how real (or at least real weird/funny) people speak. You are awesome Gary. Don’t change a thing, except maybe pay attention to Thumpers’s mama’s advice. You know, don’t verbally pimp slap people or something to that effect LOL. Don’t get me wrong though. I certainly admire your honesty.

Wow Gary, you were pretty rude to this guy. Telling a winemaker you don’t like their wine is like telling someone you don’t like their child. Didn’t your parents ever tell you “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say it at all?” You don’t have to blow sunshine and rainbows, but you don’t have to tell him THREE times that you weren’t a fan of his wine. I always thought your show was more about education and not about criticism. Oh – and spatlese is pronounced “shpayt leyz-eh” not “spaht leys”.

Loved this show – great guest and it had some interesting insights into wine-making.

QOTD: I think wine makers are sexy to most people in the way mysterious things are sexy. Wine makers aren’t well understood by the masses, so they come with the mystery of the unknown.

the hot, hot weather and the hot german guy make Riesling suddenly quite appealing. I kid of course, my family is half German so I already had a taste for it… it’s great for the climate in Austin summers

The more wine I drink the more sexy wine makers are (at least the women wine makers). I really enjoy wine from the Mosel. I was there last year and had a great time. I recommend it to anyone. The wine and rooms are cheap and good.

qotd: Bring a female German wine maker with an accent on the show, then I’ll answer that

Great show Gary. Just read a couple of articles about the different types of German Riesling and had never heard of Kabinett before, but am looking forward to finding a couple the next time I head to the wine store.

great show guys! I love German Rieslings but I still have not tasted a bone dry one yet…as for wine-makers, the girls rock, but the guys…well…cheers

Experianced or Experienced….which is the correct spelling? You decide.

I wonder if Germany saw wltv and thought it would be a great idea to create a young German wine enthusiast like Gary?
QOTD: Ummm throw bikini and I will tell you.

Good job on the Fallon show, Gary! Still not convinced he’s funny though! :)

But on the interview skills, you have to talk “standard English” and reduce the slang with guests for whom English is a second language. Unless you don’t want them to understand and just say “yeah” to anything you say. That’s my take.

I love this guy, definitely someone I would love to have a bottle with.

QOTD: Of course…it is one of those professions that has been sexy since it started, like suit making and woodworking…men working with their hands and their materials…I wish I had that job..sheesh.

Enjoyable guest, and great to see that he is committed to carrying on his family tradition, and taking it farther.
Sure, it’s nice to be able to try and find the wines on the show, but it is mostly about the knowledge he shares.

G.V. wants to share the thunder with us when he discovers it, but more than that I think he wants the people of the Vayner Nation to be prepared to search for the thunder themselves, and return it with love.
Tried some lovely Leonard Kreusch Rieslings a few weeks ago – Estate Mosel 07 and Johannisberg Rheingau 06 – very reasonably priced at retail for the quality +++

    QOTD: We are certainly gastrosexuals…

Great guest. I loved his perspective on winemaking and drinking in Germany. (And he wasn’t a strain to look at, either.) :)

Gary, I just saw you on Fallon and thought I would check out your site. I think you’re really entertaining. I don’t drink wine much, but since I’ve found your site maybe I’ll try some and follow my pallet.

Great guest. I love German Rieslings, each qualification has it’s own great taste and use, though I only do QmP’s, nothing less. Anything less is 3 buck chuck. smile. Pronouncing the categories and qualifications is really helpful, especially from a native. Can’t wait to get back to Germany and seek his out.

Us vineyard owners in NC – worry about rain, humidity, mold, rot, mildew, hurricanes, tornadoes, deer, Japanese beetles, robins (can ruin a pound of grapes a day) – just to start the list.

QOTD: we are. yes. Good question.

I need to find some Kabinett in PA.
