  • DUDE I Love u and am thrilled to see u here!

  • laurieinvt

Congratulations on #800! I love watching you two: “so the egg comes before the chicken!”

QOTD: Stick to your policy Gary, but when Sasha is on he picks the wines and you make a 'full disclosure' comment if needed.

Would've watched yesterday, but my spam filter ditched the new email notifications. I caught it today and took care of that- scary how much of the time I abdicate my memory for an email reminder!

  • Love your dad as always! Thanks for 800. Looking forward to more!

QOTD: I've always appreciated when you said something was great and that we should go out and get it. It gets me excited without sounding like you're pushing your own agenda (and usually we can get it from you anyway). This seems like a fine extension..

  • cazssiew

QOTD: I really admire your resolve on this issue. I don't think there are many others in the podcasting world (especially when so deeply involved with the product they discuss,) that have been quite so steadfast on this issue. I think it gives you an amazing amount of credibility.

  • Hutch

    Excellent show Sasha and Gary,

QOTD= I agree with your dad. As long as you still call a spade a spade then why not! If you get pumped up and excited about a wine for QPR or anything else, it just makes it easier for us to find the wine at your store rather than seeking them out.

  • wneslage

    Sasha-
What was the wine you were wanting to drink, but GV would because of his 10 case rule??

    Thanks,
    WN

  • heavyblanket

QOTD-I think all wine should be fair game. Why not? Total transparency. Like it's a mystery you own a wine store…..
My question. What is wrong with Bertani. They are still selling the 1959 vintage. That seems awesome to me and I haven't even tried it. I have had the last 3 vintages and I thought they were good. Great value in Amarone. Bolla makes a great entry level Amarone. IMHO>
Congrats on 800 episodes, by the way.
Now you can do some Ripasso, maybe????

  • Kittysafe

Sash is definitely one of my favorite guests, he's such a character.

  • Robinelle

Interesting interactions. Glad you agree on the really important things, such as the Jets.

  • Ron

Congratulations on your 800th episode! I thought it was a really interesting episode with your father. I haven't seen all the WLTV episodes, so I don't know if you had your dad before. He is such a character and probably one of my favorite guests. The interaction between you two was classic. Overall, fantastic.

  • Roter Hund

Fabulous episode — really love your dad.

  • Richie

Awsome. It's always great to have Sasha on the show.

  • jbgoode

JETS….. well I never ,ever thought I would hear myself utter these words, GO JETS.
Everyone wants to bash the Pats and the coach, why does the JETS coach get a free ride?
I do hope the Jets win and the COLTS go down in flames in the SUNDAY game.

  • JiminAtlanta

It is great to have Sasha back for #800. I hope there are at least another 800 more. I don't see anything wrong with including wines you are selling if you taste them blind and do not know they are included in the tasting. Thanks for continuing to give us good new shows.

  • The Lurk Monster

    Sasha's teeth look good.

  • abrams7

Gary I think very highly of the purpose you intend to have for your show. I respect that alot.

  • thecakescraps

QOTD: Make your case limit proportional to your audience size. If you have 10x the traffic you used to have, still having a very small amount of wine available and running out is frustrating for buyer. Evaluate your policy on occasion.

Loved the show. Keep up the good work.

  • ryan williams

GARY…GARY…GARY! I don't get it! Your whole philosophy about going back to 'old school' wine library with less interviews is just WRONG~ This is what sells you…the interaction and the play on wine knowledge as well as getting the viewer to bring more to the table for themselves. Sure… your great on your own…but, the guests are what really bring out what you know as well as your genuine passion for the grape! Please…please..please do not go purely solo…keep the guests as much as you can. Your father, my fav is such a purist…and he gives that part of you that seems to be level headed. Your engagement with him as well as your well known wine guests are what brings “wine library” the intrigue…that you seem to feed off of so well. So, Gary…please listen.
Hey…even add chris mott in on some tastings…lets see what he's learned along the way. Thanks Gary,

    Be well,
    -ryan

WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOT!!!

  • Frank

Okay, I love when Sasha is on. When he rolls his eyes when Gary goes into his mode. It is just a fathers reaction.

Not a real threat, don't get me wrong. But, Gary if you ever over correct your Father again like you did at the end, I will “paintbrush” your head all day long. (I am your age, not an old cranky guy.)

    Thank you for 800, gimme more. (…and I don't drink wine…..weird.)

  • bruceornstein

This is only the second time I am posting here. This topic got me out from the lurking position. I strongly agree with Sasha that all wine should be fair game. You are depriving the Vaynernation from learning and experiencing a large number of wines. Just do it Gary. Think of it as a learning experience for us. Don't handicap the show. Thanks Bruce

  • alexfrommontreal

Gary and the great Sasha back again. A tight family affair good work!

  • TeeTotallerInTexas

Sasha is the man! Congrats on #800!

QOTD: Keep your current policy in place

    Love the show!

  • gingerstaffanson

I am a lurker coming out of the closet. I found out about your site from a sommelier at El Gaucho steak house in Seattle when I started quizzing him about “biodynamic” wines. He said I should see a show where you interviewed one of the gurus. I watched it and became an immediate Vaniac. Would be very cool if you had Christophe Baron (AKA pissed-off, Christophe) on your show — and as I have since found out, you are a lover of the En Chamberlin. Cayuse “Rocks” in WA!

Anyway, loved the Amarone episode and many many others as I have lurked in the background. Right now I am drinking a 2006 Smasne Carmenere from Phinny vineyard (not related to the zoo), only 49 cased produced. It's like you took a New York steak with green peppercorn sauce, dipped it into a tempranillo, and tasted it. Was a great wine with Greek marinated lamb kabobs.

  • gingerstaffanson

Seems you spelled Vayniac wrong, but perhaps the same poetic license applies to the one spelling swag as schwag: silly wild a.. gift (swag)

  • gingerstaffanson

Clearly too much wine, not spellng well, and poor use of pronouns.

  • thnx bro!

  • Ryzner

Can we get Sasha on at least once a month?

  • Tau_Digamma

    Hey Gary,
Great show. I'm a huge fan of valpolicella and amarone. Sasha has to be one of the coolest guests you've had.
QOTD: Wouldn't want you to change a thing.
    Happy 800 and go Jets!

  • Ken

Good episode. I was cracking up watching your dad. The amount of bread & cheese that he ate – it must have been his lunch! I also had a good laugh when he poured some more Tommasi for himself only to have you dump it so that you could move on.

How about a show on the '07 Rhones? I am really digging these right now.

  • Now these are the episodes I enjoy the most. The most heartwarming and awesome show on the internet! Go Gary Go!

  • Redmeat

Tommasi has always been my “go to” Amarone…great juice every time!

  • Platopoker

Great episode Gary V… loved watching the interaction between you and your dad. It makes for great TV (aka Video blog). I agree with other posters that he should be on more often. Sorry for the hiatus from posting but have been very busy lately.

I also agree with your dad that if there is something really good, regardless of how many cases you have in the store, you should taste it on WineLibrary TV. We need to listen to our elders more 😉

  • Hey Gary

800 Not Out. Well Done. Great to see your dad in there again and great to see you choosing Amarone.

Well done on all your achievements.

  • Oh and Gratz on the beard. Plus baby shares my birthday but my junior by 30 years exactly.

    11/01 – Great Birthday 😉

  • bourgeoisbee

Best guest as always and this one tops 655 for me. I'm liking the new tighter videos and the new comment set up.

QOTD: Ditch the rule. Why limit the WLTV pallet? We know the goal of the show.

  • mclurker

Sasha is an acquired taste. I did not enjoy the inter-generational competition, so an appearance once every 100 shows is more that adequate.

I watch winelibrary for entertainment. Gary reviews many wines that I will never purchase due to their high price. But, I still find Gary's reviews fascinating, informative, and enjoyable.

Watching this episode is like walking into the wrong theater and watching a European movie when you really just wanted to watch an entertaining American movie. Too much drama. It was interesting from a sociological standpoint, seeing more of the backstory to Gary's life.

QOTD: It's important to not plug wines from the store as it will damage Gary's objectivity and thereby damage “Gary As A Brand”.

  • scotty8m8

Sorry, but the volume level is too low

  • You really should have Sasha on the show once a week, just so the poor guy can have a decent lunch occasionally…I know he does not stop to eat, so you might have to create the feedable moment.

  • QOTD: you pick the wine, we'll watch…you got a pure Corvina in stock?

  • Mike in C-town

    Congrats on hitting 800!

I'm commenting after the Jets game — so the beard lives!

I've bought wines from WL that have been on the show. I don't think selling them prevents objectivity, particularly when you are nerding it up. Keep it a mix and you'l be fine.

  • iurileao

Hey Gary, that was a funny show. I couldn't stop laughing at your dad (the good way), because he was just in the mood for eating and drinking and not minding anything and you kept asking him to analyse this and that and he just made those funny faces…

I'm actually jealous of you, it would be nice to have my father in such discussions, he doesn't mind it a lot…

  • lukegaskell

just watched episode # 800, congratulations on the milestone. I absolutely enjoyed your dad. been watching for about 2 years now via tivo. I am sometimes blown away by your commnets on smell, taste, etc. My thoughts about wine are more like your dad it's good or not so good, thanks for the reality, knowing that I can leave all the analylical stuff to you and enjoy my wine drinking like your dad. Big time Vikings fan, would love to see the Jets in Feb. I love the show.

  • ornkristinsson

Fantastic show Gary, I just love your dad.
Tommasi Amarone definitely in the top 5 with me and my dad. At least we can agree on that much.
Keep on the good work, your show , your rules. Keep it fresh.

  • Riverino

Great show Gary! Your Dad is a legend……

Been watching from London, Uk, for just over a year now – and have learnt so much from you and your guests.

QOTD: how many Vayniacs are there in London, UK?

  • ben from boston

shows featuring papa vaynerchuk are my favorite.

    qotd – what gary said.

…BB was right to betray such a despicable organization.

  • m squared

Gary-congrats on 800! For myself, I'll let the rest of you have the Amarone. Can't believe you had a 17 minute show on Amarone, and the word “pruny” was never spoken. Ahh well, that's why they make so many different wines, huh?

  • Eric DiNardo

I Loved that episode. Amarone is the perfect wine to celebrate anything, such as father and son spending time together, or episode 800. Amarone is my favorite wine, and Tommasi is a great producer. The dynamics of this show are perfect for Amarone, a big, fun wine.

  • Jim Sobeck

Sasha is always a trip. You know he is proud of you, it's just that guys of his generation have a hard time saying so.

  • laposte

    Congratulations on #800, couldn't be a better pairing; Father/Amarone.
    Thank You!
