Is there an easy way to shop the website for half bottles? Love the idea, but no local shops seem to carry half bottles!

QOTD: Suprano's Prosecco, as soon as I can find it :/

  • castello

Maybe I'm in now. I hope I don't have to log in everyday.

  • Jeremy

    Sir Gary,

My pants are definitely not coming off with excitement if I am denied a Tuesday show! Where art thou?

  • DAveAll

    nice show.
QOTD: for 4th. Blackberry Cabernet. Mango Blanc. and Chambourcin (a NC top hit).

  • canadapete

Keep fighting for lighter red wines. They are considered deficient and inferior by most critics.
We need to keep the diversity and subtlety of wine alive!!!! There are way way too many over extracted mass market same old thing red wines with no varietal characteristic. Save the small producer!

  • cellarrat5

Glad you were feeling this one Gary, these last couple shows have been exactly what you said you were going to start doing. Tight, too the point and back to basics.

QOTD: I am going to High Sierra Music Festival this 4th. Going to bring a couple selections from St. Amant (the wine I help make) to a friends house, the only problem is that his brother in law and sister hardly ever drink wine. I will be interested to see what they think.

  • Melissa

QOTD: My husband and I are having a Red, White and Bubbly party, so we'll be sharing a bunch of nice ones, I'm sure. One in particular that I'm excited to share (especially with my Syrah digging friends) is the 2006 Carhartt Syrah. Have you heard of them? We were there a couple of weeks ago and had a great tasting! They are in Los Olivos and do a really nice job! Nice Sauv Blanc too.

  • ewb

Gary you were locked in like Darrelle Revis on a “Would-Be Receiver”! Love it! Hope WLTV lasts forever. Keep up the good work guys.
QOTD: The in-Laws don't have the same appreciation for wine. So I am thinking of a Francois Lurton Domaine des Salices -Viognier. Had a glass at the Chatham Squire in Cape Cod earlier this year and really enjoyed it with the lobster roll I had.

    Great episode.

QotD: 4th of July is Gruner and Riesling territory. I will scream the praises of dry high acid whites from Austria all summer until someone jams a fist down my throat. And well if I feel cheap and maybe don't like the peeps at the BBQ as much I'll carry the cheaper cousin Vinho Verde.

I saw a 3 litre box of Trocken Riesling in a store the other day…maybe time for another tetra/box/can/whatever-else-they-jam-wine-into show?

  • Blythesville

For Canada Day… Most likely going to pop open Raats Chenin Blac (World Cup's on, guys) and Bran Caia 2008 Tre. Happy 4th of July to our American friends!

  • Jacqueline51

    Hey Gary,
Jacqueline here from Toronto! Great episode. You were smokin'!

QOTD: As our national holiday is this Thursday July 1st, Canada Day, I'm going to press my nose to the glass of a few canadian beauties. And as I live in Ontario I'm going to stay local and enjoy some of Niagara's gems.

Being a birthday celebration, I think I'll start with a little Sparkling Riesling wine from the Konzelmann Estate. For 16 bones it surely brings the thunder as you say! They also do a fabulous Sauvignon Blanc 2008, again only 15 bones. For a red I'm drinking the Henry of Pelham Baco Noir 2007 (this family has an american history, check them out at http://www.henryofpelham.com).

    Wikipedia — you rock!

Hope to see you on the 10th!
    Cheers
    Jacq.

Thanks Gary. That's why I and everyone else watch.

  • srdonjulio

Alright… now you really are rollin'. Great episode.
qotd: no wine this 4th but will be enjoying some local brew from a kick a$$ brew pub in Bellingham, WA!!

  • winecrazy

    Oh!!!!! NY Pete!!!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY

  • cellarrat5

Honestly, I will take what I can get. There were a few guests in the perfect storm that brought serious thunder. That being said, its always good to see you get back to basics.

  • winecrazy

Nice show……toned down alot. When am I goint to see Sir Vaynerchuk?? I miss that character.

QOTD: I'll be drinking many wines this weekend. Mostly Turley Zins, Stags Leap Cab, Pinsoni Pinot and Pax Syrah…… maybe some Domain Carneros Tattingers Rose I like. Going to watch the fireworks form the bay on the Boat so you need to have the bubbly… 🙂

  • Shannon

Great show! I typically don't comment as I watch you on iTunes, but want to get back to the basics myself and start watching you on winelibrarytv.com so I can comment….and not be a lurker ;). QOTD: we're heading out to the Willamette so we'll have a ton of great pinots, but am most excited about doing a Domain Drouhin/Joseph Drouhin head to head tasting!

Isn’t 05 Bordeaux good early and later? I’ll try to wait a few more months, years, days.

  • Anonymous

I got it back thank you. I mean no thanks to you….
    Edit this! : )

  • Anonymous

I think i fixed my discuss problem. Had to go to their website, log in then go straight to wltv.

  • Anonymous

    I’m ok now.

  • Anonymous

I’m really old school in my approach to a number of red wines, especially
Bordeaux. My palate enjoys fully mature reds rather than (IMO) the thinner,
more tannic offerings of young reds. If you just can’t stand leaving them in
the rack I would think that most Right Bank (Merlot driven) Bordeaux would
be better choices. Me? I have tasted a few (2 or 3) of the 90 that I bought
and the rest of them won’t even be looked at until 2012 at the earliest, and
most likely 2015 for the better ones.

    Thnx, Sir Spam-a-lot! 🙂

  • ian42

Riesling story- I was at Monvinic in Barcelona last month. I had a 2002 TBA ( I don't have the producer handy) and it blewwww me away. It was so dark and viscous it almost looked like syrup. The flavors cascaded over my palate and persisted forever. Luckily they had it by the half glass but it was still pricey. I think it is the best dessert wine I've ever had. Even more than D'yquem or Rieussec .

  • cellarrat5

The Oysters must be like your soul, slippery, grimey and full of spam.

  • SamKw

CKC reporting here! I guess I'm at the baller end of the spectrum though, since I often shell out money for classified growth bordeaux, barolos, burgundies and what not. But that's only possible because I have a part-time job and whatever is left over after paying bills and book expenses goes into buying wine. Would you be happy to know that you're the one who got me into all this, Gary?

QOTD: I always love getting my friends to try Italian varietals they haven't had before. Most people in my age group do not have much wine experience beyond cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, riesling, merlot, and shiraz.

  • Tholland

Good episode. Love the back to basics approach, but don't mind the OCCASIONAL guest as long as they bring something to the show (ala, Kermit Lynch or Brian Loring).

QOTD: Can't wait to see my family and drink 2006 Quinta Do Vale Meao Meandro and maybe 2005 Clos Du Prieur. Planning on cooking up some Rib Eyes.

  • NY Pete

    thanks Waynooooooo!

  • NY Pete

    thanks Randi!
