lines of the day – ‘kinda smells like a girl’s action figure’ and ‘I’m the new and relaxed Gary, I don’t know if you’ve noticed Mott’ …’No I HAVE NOT’

Nice show – enjoyed it

Gary I think the Copain was a bleed wine, whereas the other 3 were drain tank wines, which kind of explains why it is disjointed and not complete from front to back, it is almost an afterthought to darken up the pinot. No question the south of France has a handle on producing vibrant rose's, and the Spanish seem to be on their way

  • thnx Lucy 🙂

  • thnx Lady L for joining us~

  • Great call on the Spinifex and the Arrivo, two of my favourite Australian Rose's.

  • we are lotr fans too…but boy was my wife pissed off about the handling of Faramir, and the fact that the Elves showed up at Helm’s Deep in TTT, among other discontinuities…come to think of it, I don’t think I ever got her to watch ROTK she was so mad.

  • sorry Randi, I’ve been burned before too. Even though Disqus is behaving for me, I’m at the point where if at any site, the post is longer than a few lines, I write it up in Notepad first, or some other word processor, and then copy/paste it in…just in case.

  • I was having a Disqus problem several weeks ago, and after clearing the cookie cache and logging into Disqus, it was all good.

  • Nice tight reviews on this show. Hoping for the couch on Friday! I have had a couple vintages of the Muga before, which I loved. My wife doesn't love the ultra-dry ones, but it's something we can easily agree on for summer. Will have to pick up a few Bandols soon.

QOTD: Going to agree with Funny People and Godfather 3 on this one.

  • QOTD; No movies come to mind, I guess I've been lucky.
I'm a fan of the dry pink, Left coast and Vindon for Pinot noir pinks.

  • scottEJ

Thanks for the pink, G. I'll be looking for some to serve up this weekend with the grilled goodies. Hard to find ones that please everyone. I certainly prefer ones with a creamy feel than those that are overly bitter or mineral driven.

    QOTD: I got nothin'.

  • Jim Harris

    Gary,
Love rosés. I like them all year but the summertime temp make me gravitate towards them.
    Drink pink!

  • Great call on the Muga, my friend is the importer of this wine and I have been drinking it for a few years now and nice to see it got the praise it did from you.

  • corkscrew

I find most Rose's thin or too sweet. Had a 2009 Caldwell Syrah Rose recently which was fantastic since it had body and structure with great flavors that most Rose's don't have. http://www.winelx.com

  • orangebottle

great show, who knew rose? I guess you did.
QOTD: Knowing. A great suspense movie in the beginning, it was keeping us guessing. But after finding out the aliens, it was below par.

  • Jr.Vol

Gary, great job on the Rose show. I have been a huge fan of Rose for the past five years. As a retailer in Tennessee, our customers have accepted Rose as a part of their summer drinking habits. Rose is also really good with grilled white meats (chicken and pork). Also, the Muga Rose has 30% Viura, which is a white grape.
    Keep the shows rolling.

  • QOTD: Atonement. Amazing start. Massively all over the place finish that just fell flaton its face. Still glad they made it though.

  • I'm a fan of rose, especially in this weather in Florida. Not a lot pops up around town though. I guess it's just not popular. My friend just ordered a couple bottles of Chateau d'Esclans Garrus Rose, which I'm looking forward to trying. I've had their low end Whispering Angel and enjoyed it. Curious what an $80 Rose tastes like.
Been a fan of the Muga since about March or April when I went to a tasting with Emilio Moro and Muga wines. The Muga Rose was my second favorite wine of the day, after the Muga 01 Prado Enea.

QOTD: The first movie that came to mind was Training Day. Really good for the first 2/3 or so and then just turned into a typical shootout chase movie at the end.

  • cellarrat5

serious? whats not to like about a classic Mel Gibson Jesus alegory ending? 😉

  • cellarrat5

your comment is pointless, rose will always be made.

  • adam_riley

So many movies like this. Pineapple Express and Wedding Crashers are the 2 winners for me.

  • dsallen

lol it's one of my favorite movies, but I would rather just watch the first half twice than finish it 🙂

  • c'mon GV, questioning the back-end hype, the front end is telling the tale with rose sales increasing steadily for several quarters.
That said, the pink is where it is at…we have the now annual neighborhood Rose by the River party coming up in a couple of weeks. Last night we had the tasty Chateau Lancyre.
    VRAC!
'A metre en vrac' is what the local folksdo in France, buying in bulk, filling up 25 litre plastic jerry cans and then bottling them at home for just a couple of euro per litre.

hey send Mott home with a bottle of the Bandol for the holiday!

    QOTD: Waterworld

  • lau1

QOTD: Moulin Rouge, LOVED the first half, then it got boring and disjointed.

  • Allan 2.0

I have done a bit of leaping this evening…….. Stag's Leap that is.

2005 Stag's Leap Artemis. First of, where is it? (Give it some air!) Oh, there…. First things first, coffee roast, cigar box, FRESH black currant for days without end, even a hint of cranberry sweetness comin' at the last minute. It's a “delicate beast” this wine (my opinion) it's very well made, refined without a doubt, but i have to say, i think, this is trying to be something it is not (bordeaux of course). It lacks Bordeaux's structure and RICHness. But the balance is top dollar. If i have to rate it QPR wise, it's going to be a 88p & a pazz. But ultimately the bottle is in my view quality-wise a 90-91 point wine, but the price considered, no! 🙂

Give it a try. After all, we only live once!

    Cheers!

  • and Sophie Marceau!

  • Good episode. One thing about the Muga, I don't know if other people have noticed but they don't age well, their crisp and tasty but once they've passed the 4 year mark, they drop fast; we have them available locally and you often see them getting pushed to the front as their years begin to show. Very good for the first two years though.

QOTD: for me, a movie that kind of fits your description is “The Draughtsman's Contract” by Peter Greenaway. The first two thirds of the movie are intriguing and sick but the last third is not so much. Good, good movie nonetheless.

  • lawrenceleichtman

Avatar seemed to go on forever and not get anywhere other than CGI overkill at the second half. Almost all movies that go much over 2 hours seem to stall at the end. I too like Bandols but find them hard to come by in Santa Fe.

  • Mike Drash

Invictus. Just kept going, and going, and going…

  • Mike Drash

Bedrock Grenache Rose for $20 was fantastic, BTW.

  • Love the zone!! Hope you stay there for awhile!! Rosé wine have rocked my summer so far! Your right easy, don't have to over think them and great value! My favorite so far is I'M Isabel Mondavi it's a Deep Rosé made from CabSau and its delish!!

  • waynooo daaa wino

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • BrianAF

QOTD: This one is easy Full Metal Jacket

  • zanne_70

Another QOTD: so we probably all know that most rosé wines are to be drunk young. What do y'all think about ageing some of them though? Has anyone ever had an aged rosé? What was it like?

  • bartbgood

    La Source 2007 Sparkling Rose…. And, I don't like sparkling wine. 🙁

  • TonyL

Love the Rose show. Could you do more rose before the summer is finally over.

  • angelatcarslon

    Fun show!
Loving the Pinot Roses: 2009 Close Pepe ($23) is way yummy and delicious.
Hey, how about a Santa Lucia Highlands/Santa Rita Hills Pinot Show?
    Great area with awesome wines.
Showed much better than the Anderson Valley at Pinot Days.

  • Thanks for the rose show (however I still think it's a bit girly).

QOTD: It has to be “The Sound of Music”!!!

  • Jacqueline51

    Hey Gary,
Jacqueline from T.O.. All I can say is YES…..REAL MEN DO DRINK ROSE!!! Great show. I like that many of you fellas have said you already are into them!! And like you say Gary, us girls are into them too!

Loved the dorm smell references. You are just so quick and witty with your comments!

You've got to try the Chivite Gran Feudo Rosado 2009 from Navarra Spain. It's 11.95 here in Toronto. Cheap and cheerful. Medium bodied, soft strawberries on the palate, nice acidity. Great on its own or with food. Good on a hot summer day.

If you really want to impress that special girl or guy in your life and have a few extra buckaroos to spend…..Laurent Perrier Rose Champagne. I recently had it with….get this…..a red cabbage salad with carrots and green apples. The dressing was extra virigin olive oil with freshly squeezed lemon. I know sounds weird, but what a combo. Really brought out the fruit in the champagne.

The secret is to not chill these wines too cold as they loose, well everything that is going for them quite frankly.

    Fantastico Monsieur Gary!

    Cheers
    Jacq.

  • Jacqueline51

    Oh yeah forgot the QOTD:
For me – Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise…….starts off exciting and intriguing and then……………………..
well as you say it draagggged onnnn and lost my interest………….

    Ciao

    Jacq.

  • nolongerthelurker

    QOTD – Braveheart!
What a suprise show, wouldn't have thought to see Rose. Opened my eyes. Changing my wine world for sure.

  • teckdeck2008

I need to try and drink dry rose's more. Rose is just something I never got too excited about.
Qotd: Hancock. Will Smith was so funny and entertaining, and then half way through they forced this awkward and bad plot line and finish which just killed all the good vibes I got from the first part. Just poor directing and writing imo, I don't blame Will Smith at all for that movie flop.

  • teckdeck2008

I totally agree with you on the chilling of wines. The most I'll do is 15 min of chilling in the frig before opening the bottle, if i think the wine calls for it. Other than that its none at all.

  • Eacarrr

QOTD: Stripes… Great movie up until the graduation scene, then the last 20-30 minutes just tried a little too hard.

  • A dumb Rhein king

    QOTD: Nothing comes to mind.

  • A dumb Rhein king

Thanks for bringing something different to the table. You do a lot, but I don't know how many times it has been a rose.

  • Allen

QOTD: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

  • ewb

Solid! Just bought a Bandol white tonight (chateau de pibarnon bandol blanc). Not sure what to expect.
    QOTD: Avatar

  • markie

love roses!!!! love charles & charles and and charles bieler roses! gary awesome show…back to a the format I want to watch again! thanks and have a great 4th

  • jsums

You're in the zone, dude. Keep it up. Recently picked up some Domaine de la Fouquette '09 CdProvence. Killer rose distributed by Regal here in NY/NJ. Selling like hotcakes. QOTD – Sunshine. It was epic and awesome until it fell into basic horror film action.

  • jsums

A bad, watery vodka/cranberry…like the finish Gary described on that PN rose. Most just lose the beautiful fresh fruit flavors and the alcohol starts to dominate.
