  • ddddddddaaaaaaaaaaaavvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeee! hi.

    πŸ™‚

  • Nick

we want ep 1000 right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cool, if you can create a local group that is nice. Sometimes it seems hard to find the right crowd but glad you were able to! To me Gary stands for three very good things: trust your own taste (i.e. don’t care about what people tell you to like), wine is for everybody (i.e. not just the snooty know it alls), and try new things. The packaging has its own distinctive New Jersey charm which isn’t for everybody but the underlying message is actually pretty darn cool, especially given that it is free!

Have any wines that you are loving?

  • Can’t wait myself. Can’t help but wonder what 1k will bring. Sasha? Mischa? Throwback to episode 1? Can’t wait, nice buildup to it.

  • SASHA! πŸ˜€

  • Yeah, would have liked to have given them at least an hour or so. Should have opened them all during the first “day” at least.

  • I left tons of comments on the episode and recall you being the best comment guest of all time! I’ll go leave one more ;).

  • DaveAll

    hi

  • QOTD 1: Gary won’t (part)-own the Jets for many reasons, including because he’s too good a businessman.
QOTD 2: Best Ep of the week? The one when Gary V drank wine with some white guys who alternated between giggling and putting their serious faces on… Guess that doesn’t narrow it down, huh? (You talk about expanding your palate, how about expanding your demographics?) If I had to pick one, then it’s Ep 997 by a nose, if you ignore the parts when Kahuna was speaking.
QOTD 3: Most recent Washington St. wine was a merlot from Canoe Ridge Vineyards.

    Episode 1000, where are you????????????????????

  • oh good lord 4 pages of comments.

I’ve had several Leonetti’s and I gotta say I wasn’t impressed with any of them. The “aged” ones started out smelling fantastic, but were thin in body and taste. No complexity at all.

Man, I would have liked to sample that Antinori….

    will do Joel

    You got that right Andy

The powers that be thought it best to level the playing field

Actually we were all there because we actually know Gary and have been contributing for a few years. That said you really should get to know BLou hes an incredible poster

  • Amavi… that is the jam!

  • Yeah, I agree… tremendous color.

  • Boo. no Canucks. Good choice on the wine. I like that C Smith a lot.

  • Anonymous

QOTD on Washington wines: Owen Sullivan Cabernet Franc- YES.

  • Anonymous

Great series of tastings! Julius seemed to know his stuff, including how to scarf a little extra $210 wine….I don’t blame him a bit. What happened to the leftover wine? Did the whole room get a chance at them all? Just asking.

QOTD: 1- The planets would really have to align for that to happen, maybe as a member of a consortium. 2- Hard to differentiate, all were great. 3- K Vintners Syrah.

In response to your comment on #2 you have to remember that when Gary started WLTV the people who bought and were interested in wine, the internet and wine tasting were predominantly white males. Younger enthusiasts, females, and non-whites were and, to a certain extent still are, in the minority just look at the composition of the board even today. The wine world has opened up to diversity to a great extent within the last few years but we have a long way to go.

  • QOTD: No Question about it…No. 2. Really, all of them, and No. 3, I really like Red Diamond. And then…. HOLY COW!!! 999!!!! I know you’re at SXSW having a great time, and won’t see this before episode 1,000; in any case, congrats, and CHEERS!!! Crush it man!

Joshua, I appreciate your insight. I agree with you on your points about
Gary. As for what I am drinking right now, I continue to be amazed by the
quality of Hungarian wines. They are outstanding, especially the ones from
    Takler.

  • Wow, that is one area I haven’t explored much. Will have to look into it!

laurie, sorry to hear about your Mom. You and her are in our thoughts and prayers. πŸ˜‰

  • I was with you at Morrells and in spite of the time spent in the glass, I still found the Foley Claret (which Gary still doesn’t pronounce correctly) over the top.

  • Anonymous

I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Like Mike (smokenmirrors) says, it leveled the playing field to toss them.

    QOTD: Yes
QOTD2: Today’s show was my favorite of the week because I like to see more Rose wine on display.
QOTD3: I believe it was a Columbia Valley.

  • The “Super Tuscan” could be said to have started back in the 16th century when Catherine de Medici had Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Tuscany (Carmignano) to blend with Sangiovese, the regulations of which were imposed later (in 1716) by Grand Duke Cosimo III (making it the first “DOC” in the world.

  • John__J

Now I don’t expect the 1000th episode to be up on a Sunday, but I wouldn’t be surprised if ALLAN somehow got the 1st comment on it already πŸ™‚

  • You felt a disturbance in the Allan force. πŸ˜‰

  • Coupe 60

and Julius should know as he was a close friend of Catherine de Medici growing up…

  • Coupe 60

Couldn’t agree more with your answer to QOTD #2

  • Coupe 60

BTW, Dave’s wines are all really quite outstanding. Starting back with his pre official for sale wines from 2007, to his awesome Meritage and Merlot of 2008, to his 2009 Rose…Kaella is definitely something I will buy year after year..

  • Coupe 60

no, only Dave’s Kaella…the rest we did not get to try

Here we are on the edge of 1000…is it just me or did anyone else notice that KMurph seemed to be the only female in the room all “week”?

QOTD: Gary may own the Jets some day, but it might not be as much fun as being the uber-fan that he is now. Less time for wine wouldn’t be worth it IMO.

I liked all of the shows because we got to put faces to forum/comments names, but I really enjoyed the young man who didn’t back down from picking a Riesling because that’s what he wanted to drink.

Pacific Rim”s Chenin Blanc is the WA wine I have in my fridge right now. At my local TJ”s in CA where I work, the Red Diamond Cab & Merlot are very popular and I’m looking forward to the private label Columbia Valley AVA Riesling that will be coming in next week.

BTW Gary, we have a Sancerre & a Poully Fume in stock right now and I’m always on the lookout for any more Loire Valley wines. Massively delicious!

Joel, I realize you were being sarcastic, but sometimes a bit of gentle humor is meant to provide exactly that: support, in the way of a friendly nudge. I don’t know of a single one of us commenting here that haven’t ranted or posted a particularly cranky comment. Really. It’s ok. And I appreciate your apology above.

    Hey, thanks!

I just watched all the Vayniac episodes in sequence. What a great day and a fantastic way to lead up to the big show. I cant get over what a great feeling seeing the way all of you have bonded through the years over wine and this great show. THAT is what wine in truly about for me. On a side note to me it seemed like everyone was especially critical of some pretty fantastic wines. Maybe it was the “company”…..and WTF no Bordeaux?? oh and please stop letting the secret of great Riesling out…for real

  • Excellent episode, one worth coming back to WLTV for – good to see the forum greats in action on this and the previous shows.

  • Finished watching all 4 of the special episodes, and have to say none is my favorite … they all had some aspect to them that I loved. You guys all did great, and the camaraderie and comfort you had with each other was clear. Gary, you started something great. Thanks!

  • Really enjoyed the special shows. I think you might be on to something here. Maybe do this more regularly?

  • Anonymous

    Yet another great show!

I am very excited to see what Gary has set for show 1000

  • Anonymous

999 unbelievable! Massive achievement. You gotta be proud. Thank you. QOTDs:

    1. Deep down he’s got more sense.
    2. Maybe this one.
    3. Never – I live in the UK.

  • I loved this show, it’s refreshing to find regular people who are so passionate about wine. Great job Gary for keeping the show focused on the wine and the people.

QOTD1: Gary WILL own the NY Jets…no question about it.
QOTD2: I liked this show the best…more mature crowd; Gary listened more and asked great questions.
QOTD3: I like everything I’ve tasted out of Washington. But sadly it’s been all Chat St. Michelle and Columbia winery. Need to taste more from Washington. Hope to see the Sangio RosΓ© from the show in stores some day soon πŸ˜‰

Thanks for a great episode #999 Gary,

    -Armond

  • My parenthetical diversity comment was meant more as an observation than a criticism. In my part of central NJ I run into plenty of women, as well as folks from east Asian and southern Asian, who are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about wine. Since GV has shown keen interest in drawing in the CKC (college-kid crew), I’m just wondering why these other demographic groups are under-represented and haven’t been enticed to join in more. It couldn’t hurt WL’s business to do so…

  • Tony Tombstone

Continue to love the episodes. Wondering if any offline tastings being done in So. Call.?

Gary just got book 2 today in mail. Looking forward to diving in.

Gary is a genious but gotta sell a lot of vino to own part of the jets.
all the shows have been equally good.
    Washington Merlots in the house

    Looking forward to 1000

    qotd1: he better
qotd2: hmm I think as people got comfortable in the room the shows got better.
qotd 3: Andrew Will, and Buty

  • Wow. That was a great episode, Gary! Been a while since I’ve watched, but will definitely go back and watch the rest from this week. Loved seeing the faces from the forum. Can’t believe it’s been almost four years since I stumbled upon WLTV. Jeez, time flies!

Q1 – If the player’s union strangles the league and they shut the league down for 2 years, they just might be cheap enough.
Q2 – 997 with SSChris and Kahuna. Because they are the big dogs.
Q3 – CMS (their bordeaux blend and their chardonnay… both were pretty good)
