Qotd: I don’t have one favorite experience, but it does take me back to my childhood when my dad would always buy some on the way from church on sundays. and we’d eat on it all week.

Gary, I am a black licorice fanatic ( or Phanatic… originally from Philly) I now live in Anderson Valley CA…. one of your favorite places and I am working 7 days a week in the wine biz…. 2 of those days I am with Phillips Hill and 3 with Toulouse…. I think you may remember our wines…. I have ( in my humbled opinion..) the BEST pairing of wine and licorice known to mankind…. Toulouse, 2008 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir and Kookaburra Aussie Black Licorice….. a match made in heaven… or Australia and California… Please try… Everybody! Please try! Plus, black licorice has essential iron… so you can eat candy and say it is benificial for your health! Win, Win!!

    QOTD: Fav licorice experience?

That’s easy – as a kid – biting the ends off of a red Twizzler and using it as a straw to drink my Orange Crush.

Thanks for the correction. Finland was just ranked as the best country in the world – must be the licorice 🙂 Tyrkisk Peber will always be Danish to me, though, since it’s the candy of my childhood (and adulthood too, to be honest) 🙂

  • Grape shoestrings. Where are they?

It must be the licorice… I’ll give you Tyrkisk Peber, the Norwegians can have their Tyrkisk Pepper and the Finns can keep Turkinpippuri (perhaps it’s all in the name). A fantastic sweet, none the less.

Fav licorice experience: Playing little league baseball. b/4 a game I would buy 5 grape vines and put them in my left hip pocket and 10 black licorice twists in my right pocket. At strategic moments I would roll up a “vine” in a spiral fashion and place it in my cheek. (just like the major leaguers)
