  • Next week we’ll shoot hoops. Umm, what is the deal with commenting first? I think Gary should cough up a shirt or bottle of wine per episode or something.

Now to answer the QOTD: the 2004 Vivir, vivir Ribera del Duero, which I picked up from the front display of your store two days ago. Thanks, Ian.

Although it is convenient, working about two blocks from the WL and passing it every day can also be deadly to the bank account. My colleagues tease me, saying I have direct deposit for my twice monthly pay: one check goes to the bank, one to the WL.

  • The last bottle of wine that I drank was the Cafe Noir from Arcadian in the Finger Lakes. I enjoyed it for a $9 bottle, has that black olive flavor. Right, Colin?

  • Oh, the last wine I had was a homemade wine by my friend Paul on Sunday night. It was extremely good. I’d rate it a 90. 🙂

I had a bottle of 2001 Mondavi Oakville last night. Good, but tiring on the palate. I try to like American cabernet, but seem always to prefer the dryer French wines.

  • Oh snap.

Correction: Paul’s wine was the last wine I had, and I agree that wine, especially for homemade wine, is not even right (the good kind).

    Hi Gary,

The last bottle of wine I tasted was really not that good. It was a 50% cab franc/merlot blend from Raphael Vineyards out in the North Fork of Long Island. As I pointed out in an earlier post (probably the NY wines blog), the reds from Long Island just were not that good while the whites and the dessert wines seemed to shine. I have read many articles that compare the Bordeaux region in France to Long Island from the point that they are on the same latitude or longitude (I forget which) and have similar weather, etc. Whoever writes these articles is a joke because I have yet to find a NY red that is worth putting away…….

    Gary,

If you are a “comment crackhead” I will have to post some comments tonight at 2-3am just to see if I have the power to get you up out of bed in the middle of the night.

questions for gary or anyone else on this board….gary you described the first 2 wines as… “a little risante” (spelled way wrong) I have never heard this term before. what does it mean?

    Gary,
    Another super episode!
I really LIKED this episode. I normally only drink reds soooo I will try some dry white soon thanks to you. Thanks for challenging what types of wine I drink!
The last wine I had is good especially for the money($4). It is Concha Y Toro Frontera Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot. It is meduim bodied and very dry. The alcohol content is just right for me at 13%. I would give it an 89.
That’s right Gary, I am the Susan who was asking about taking out a loan to buy wine. I am the original big spender! Not!
    Thanks for the great podcasts!

2001 Etude Napa Cab at Ruth’s Chris. It was incredible. I only wish that WL would sell it….

  • Last Wine Tasted Last Night: Casa De Sonoma 2005 Sebastiani Russian River Valley “UNOAKED”…I’m drinking it like a mad man.

Hey Gary…I know your the star and all, but howabout bringing on some other WL employees when you do a blind tasting. Also…I wouldn’t give up the guests all together, I enjoyed meeting different wine makers and owners from different wineries.

Not a big fan of Sauvingnon Blanc, but enjoy the comments all the same!

Hey gary. Last wine I tasted was with pizza last night. It was a 2004 Monte Bernardi Chianti Classico. What ever happened to your “heat” issue topics that you were going to address?

  • Last bottle: 1998 Domaine Pontifical Chateauneuf du Pape. Which you don’t carry, BTW.

I had this in a restaurant and was extremely impressed. Went right home and got on the WL website, but was sorely disappointed. I cried for hours. Fortunately, a google search revealed that 20-20 Wines out here in California had it. I ordered a case (your loss).

I know – I’m admitting that I’ve been unfaithful to you Gary, but only when you didn’t come through for me. You’re still my steady guy…

Yeah…no, actually I’m married, so I’m not like coming on to you or anything. I mean, sure, you’re good-looking and all for a guy, and if I was…you know…then, sure, maybe…

Um, gee, that got kind of awkward. 😉

Maybe you should have asked what was the last wine you had from WL (and how did you like it), and we would have avoided an awkward situation.

I’m still waiting for that heat episode. Hopefully, you’re deep in research mode as we speak.

  • alright…last bottle: Sierra Cantabria Cuvee Especial…man, that bottle was awesome….killer structure…good blanace…nice fruit with just the perfect rioja acidity…just a great wine for under $20 (i think). most often i would be drinking some bargain bordeaux though….gary, thanks for the shout out….i think. question: am i wasting my time with my bargain bordeaux…could i be getting a lot better wine for the same price from other regions…or are bordeauxs as good as i think? that rioja at the top was just killer and it makes me think i might should be looking elsewhere…
