I feel honored that you read my post!!! BTW – Love the Question of today!! I will be revisting the comments frequently as I enjoy all the comments too. GREAT JOB!!!

    Drank in last 7 days:
    1999 – Torres – Gran Coronas – 87 – Lacks fruit
    2004 – PGA Tour Players Merlot – 85 Thin & young
2003 – BV Napa Cab – 87 Young, but I like as an every day drinker
2001 – Ebenezer Shiraz -91 – One of the better Aussies I have had – well worth the $13 I paid

gary… first, let me say that i’ve totally become addicted to watching the “show” (some guys i know who work for a local wine auction house let me in on it). second, i have to say that i was a bit disappointed with this episode. sauvignon blancs are my go-to summer white, especially babich and kim crawford (a touch above the price point you were detailing, barely). but, the disappointment with the episode is primarily that there was no excitement with any of the wines. i have to say that my fav episodes are the ones where epiphanies are made. where you get blown away by a wine and i’m nearly forced to go find it (i’m still itching to try the 2001 verite from an archived show). but, of course, i commend your objectivity. maybe a ringer in a case like this would help. whatever… i’ll keep watching. it’s not like you doing one show a month. now, for the question of the day: last wine i finshed last night (and opened night previous) was the novy 2003 santa lucia highlands syrah. def needed some breathing time. good juice, though. anyway, keep up the good work. enjoying!

    Gary:

Last wine was last night, 1994 Torre Muga Riserva, bought at WL, boought way back when WL was a small store. Initially, the wine was so Bordeaux-esque….as night evolved so did the Torre Muga, into a more familiar Rioja. Aged Terrifically!!!! Patience was rewarded.

But Gary – WHAT WAS THAT MAG of Red in the Decanter?? I was so waiting for you to taste that! What a tease.

Hey Gary – Great ending with the WL commercial.
QOTD answer – my last bottle was the 2002 Mazzei Serrata which I finished last night with a nice steak dinner.

How can I get in on some hoops?

Gary — you slay me. Great commercial.

Last wine: ’04 W.H. Smith Sonoma Coast pinot noir. Fabulous effort — I bet it would give the Chasseur from yesterday a run for the money.

Question: I noticed that two of the s.b.’s from today had corks, and two had screw caps. What’s your take on the cork/screw cap debate?

    Cheers.

  • damon

question: When I pick wines out of my cellar, many of them have alot of sediment. How do restaurants handle this. Do they always keep a bottle upright incase someone orders it. I plan a couple of days ahead when I’m going to drink an older bottle. Just curious.

last wine i had. Clos de l’Oum, Cotes de Roussillon. (my french spelling isn’t so hot.)

Also — what’s up with the decanter of (untasted and unmentioned) red wine on the table?

  • damon

yeah, I was wondering about the decanted wine left untasted.

gary, enjoyed our comments and video. i actually caught myslef laughing so it must have been funny. very glad that i do not sell any sauvignon blancs that start with “m”.

the last bottle of wine that i tried was and 2005 vintage of foris flyover white from oregon. it had all the elegance of a trailer park and tasted like of paint thinner was added to the fermentation to boost the alcohol level. basically, forget it, it sucked.

    cheers, mjk

OK, you really do rock! So, the last bottle of wine was a 2001 Maclise Vineyard Merlot from Coturri…which brings me to my request. Please do an episode on a couple of Coturri type wines…pleeease!!! i.e. â?¦small lot, rustic, not manipulatedâ?¦

Andâ?¦I really hope your sales numbers show that Wine Library TV is an asset…that way you can go tell all the cheese heads that they can blow chunks when they have a negative comment about one of your shows.

    Cheers!

    Hey Gary et al.,

The last wines I tried were the “Moncaro Verdi Di Ca Ruptae Verdicchio Castello Di Jesi 2004” and the “Schloss Gobelsburg Gruner Veltliner Gobelsburger 2005.” Tom recommended the Verdicchio for my salmon dinner; it was a great experience. As a German riesling lover, I had always wanted to try the Gruner Veltliner. Whilst staring at the various producers’ bottles Ian happened by and recommended the Schloss Gobelsburg, saying it was a perfect demonstration of the wine’s features; and for the price it was unbeatable. I loved them both, as did my sister, whose birthday I’d bought them to celebrate. Thanks y’all.

BTW…”Fun Toys” and “The Man!”; Gary’s back. 🙂 Great episode Gary.

    Hey Matty Van,
It was “frisante”. A faint fizz, like carbonation, in the wine. I had it in the verdicchio I mentioned above.

I do wonder if Gary is a WLTV comments crackhead. I am actually always up (sometimes i got to bed at 4 to wake up for work at 6) checking the comments and reading what others have to say; I am certainly a bonafide WLTV comments crackhead in addition to my WLTV habit.

Drinking right now the Gascony wine – Colombelle – purchased by the case from Wine Library. This wine is one of the best bargains in white wine that there is.

  • NATURA

Right now I try a 2006 Pinotage Rosé sample “Early Bird” from the Cape of Good Hope.

    Really good stuff!

Hey Gary! You obviously shirk from the announced blind tasting. 😉
Don’t forget to paint a nice smiley on the bag!

Last wine I had was a 2004 Neal Family Vineyards Napa Valley Zinfandel. Excellent stuff, small Howell Mountain based winery. Picked it up at the winery on a recent trip to Napa. Hard to find retail, hopefully Wine Library gets some some day!

I’ll keep to the question. About 3 times a week in the Summer and about 4 to 5 days a week inthe winter.

Interesting episode Gary, I like to see some low priced wines if for no other reason to eliminate buying them if they are not good. I just finished a 2002 Foppiano petite sirah.

Gary – My 3rd grade geography teacher would disagree with you about South Africa being a new world country… Also Wine Library has that Man rated at 89 points – you may want to adjust that.

this might be a stupid question, but when you taste whites on the show, are they chilled?

Argyle chardonnay; generic, like drinking flat sprite, wife opted for a Mike’s hard lemonade. TERRIBLE

I had a bottle Sequel Syrah from Long Shadows Wineries at dinner last night. Delicious, but almost over-powered the food.
