Purple Moon Shiraz from Trader Joes is $3.99. It’s really not bad for the price.

  • Rick McQ

Amano Primivito from Italy in not bad either if your looking for a little variety in the $10.00 range

  • OK…JUST IN TIME FOR NUMBER 100

The website for voting on the vaynerNAMES is up and running.
I’m just waiting for the web site name to truncate to everyone before I give it out.
One vote per email address….no cheating!
It will probably be up tomorrow. I will keep taking submission on names so get them into me if you want them to be voted on.

Early leader by my account looks to be vaynerNATION, but the votes will be the ones to tell!
    If you don’t vote….you can’t complain!

Les Deux Rives Corbieres ain’t bad for about $9 local–bear in mind, though, that the $7 Di Majo Norante sangiovese from Episode 76 (which ain’t a bad wine at all BTW) runs about $13 here.

Sir Brian Woolley, please allow me to thank you for your contribution to the awesome spreadsheet. I drove 30 miles from home bypassing umpteen wine shops to drop a couple bones at The Wine Library this weekend in large part because of the spreadsheet. I feel obligated to patron establishments that display excellence and value. Thank you for your contribution to excellence! Thank you for the value-added experience!

Gravatar.com is doing some major upgrades. They made mention of this earlier today. The homepage is down as we speak. I always see good reviews for the Eroica. The Monchhof Riesling is classified as an Auslese so it is approaching desert wine sweetness (but not quite). I agree it should be paired with something rich and or spicy. It would go great with a cheese plate as well.

  • The San Felipe Cab is a steal at $6.99, reviewed in ep #45 and still available at WL. I ordered 3 bottles on his recommendation and then bought a case more after tasting it.

  • Something to keep us busy until Gary gets back…

In my comment #61, above, I commented on a very disappointing experience I had with a 1999 Dominus cab last Saturday.

What kinds of experience have you had with very expensive, “top shelf” or cult wines? Were they all they were cracked up to be? Swill? Overhyped? A bargain at any price? Here’s your chance to show off all the ’61 Cheval Blancs and ’82 Latours you’ve had. 🙂

  • Tony…I ordered a case and didn’t think it was all that great…it seems to be a MUCH better wine after about 2 – 3 decanting…try that and you may like it even more.

2003 BV GEORGES DE LATOUR – WOULD RATE 87 pts – THIS LIKE SO MANY OTHER “HIGH END” CALI WINES JUST ARE NOT PUTTING OUT LIKE THEY USED TO 10-15 YEARS AGO?? I THINK THEY SHOULD DROP ABOUT 30-40% OF THEIR FRUIT – INTENSIFY THE WINE AND KEEP PRICE WHERE IT IS AT AND THEY WOULD HAVE WINNERS FOR THE DOLLARS AGAIN>?

To ALL interested in the VaynerNAMES Vote,

I’ve continued to struggle with choosing between â??VaynerNATIONâ?? and â??VaynIACSâ??, although I think Iâ??ve come up with an idea that allows us to continue using BOTH terms. The idea is based on this distinction â?? that we ALL are individual VaynIACS who are members of a larger group called VaynerNation (i.e. Republicans are all part of the GOP). Really, they do have different meanings that work well together.

So, the first decision is to see if people agree with my suggestion that we all could and should still use BOTH terms (versus just voting for one term).

If folks agree with this concept, then the discussion really shifts to coming up with, and agreeing to, a slogan that utilizes both terms (for the T-shirsts). Iâ??ve come up with a few possibilities, but welcome any suggestions to tweak:
    1) VaynerNATION is filled VaynIACS!!
    2) VaynerNATION..filled with VaynIACS!!
    3) â? VaynerNATION â?¦..filled with a bunch of VaynIACS!!”

I think I like #2 first. Obviously, I also welcome completely different slogans that utilize these two terms. (SUE Z…your great with this stuff….any suggestions or do you approve of one of mine?)

I look forward to responses to this ideaâ?¦.both positive & negative.

    Brandon M. (& all VaynIACS),
I guess I would ask that you add, as a separate nominee, my idea of using both words moving forward. So, along with all of the other single-name nominees, VaynIAC would be one nominee, VaynerNATION a second, and agreeing to use BOTH VaynIAC and VaynerNATION would be a third (to include the concept of the, using these 2 names in a slogan for a T-shirt). If that concept wins, then a second vote could be had for what the actual slogan should be (in case my suggestions are not liked). I apologize for mucking this thing up, but I had…what you would call…an epiphany. (or maybe I’m just nuts!!) What do you think?

Please comment everyone…the web site will be up no later than tomorrow morning, but I’m hoping it truncates today.

I don’t want to piss anyone off with my comment but I might. Let me preface my remark by saying that I do appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm.

I’ve seen more posts lately about what to call the people who post here than about wine. When you over-analyze something like this, it takes a lot away from it. Usually names are arrived at in a serendipitous fashion. You guys should decide on something and then “let’s move on…”.

  • I comment on wine, and the WLTV ezpewrience, for me, it’s all on topic. It’s not like we’re going out and talking about 1935 Chevy Coupes.

Brandon M: I don’t want to take away from your fun — I shouldn’t have said anything. This whole naming thing just seems a little forced in my opinion. Something like the Vayner-nod and Vayner-chuck was funny because it was spontaneous. That’s all I’m saying. Then again, maybe I’m just hyper because I’m in WLTV withdrawal…

  • And I know you weren’t trying to ruffle any feathers, and you really haven’t, but think about what your saying. We haven’t had an episode in six days, and this blog is still going. That’s becasue we are keeping in touch through this BLOG. It just proves that we don’t HAVE to have a VLOG everyday to continue to communicate. I personally feel that the BLOG is much more dynamic and much more exciting when we interject our own creativity into this experience. To say “You guys should decide on something and then â??letâ??s move onâ?¦â?.” is kind of a slap in the face.

There are a lot of people puting time and effort into this, and I’m trying to get things done, like T-shirts at cost, to make our WLTV party a bigger success.

I just think there are plenty of WINE SNOB BLOGS out there that stick to just the topic of wine, which is a shame. We are a wine community, and with that comes more than just tasting notes.

  • actually, I’m glad you said something, because I would love to try and change the way you feel about it. Your not taking away from my fun, no one can really do that, but I would really hate to see this thing become the “Wine Spectator” of VLOGS….if it does, so be it, but for me it really is more than that. I can read spectator and go watch their’ VLOGS anytime, but where’s the fun and interactivity in it?
