and, just for the record, I am FULLY aware that my last posting (#143) was completely over-the-top AND overanalyzed….but that IS the joke…and I think that Brandon M and I are both in on this joke.

It’s one thing if we didn’t realize that some of what we’re doing is over-the-top, but I think we both do (Brandon, I know I assuming here…please correct me if I’m wrong).

But, TimF, you’re a good man….I’ve enjoyed many of your postings and I fully support your right to not like this “over-the-top” stuff. I personally think it’s hilarious AND, I still think my idea is GREAT! (sorry, I had to throw that in to continure my “over the topedness”) 🙂

  • Not really any correction needed Chris….I do have to say (and my wife hates it) that when I get into something, I’m the kind that jumps in with both feet and doesn’t look back…that’s probably why I’m all over the place with this.

  • I would like to comment on a cuisine note.
My cousin Cathy’s restaurant and Inn scored one star (Indicates “a very good restaurant in its category.” According to Michelin, it is a place offering cuisine prepared to a consistently high standard) in a very difficult San Francisco restaurant issue of the Michelin rating book where only one restaurant (French Laundry) received three stars….congrats Cathy!

Rick E – I found the Advanced Certificate course to be immensely enjoyable and worthwhile. One of the benefits (at the IWC where I took it) was that it was a much smaller class than the Intermediate level. And while several students were in the industry, there were as many, like myself, that were not. I am considering entering the diploma program, but that would be dependent on a career change, also under consideration. (Did you hear that, GaryV?)

P.S. That Accidental Connoisseur is a very enjoyable book.

here is a link to a picture of a 1935 chevy pick up truck, I really like this offering from chevy, I think the color is pleasing to the eye and the long wheel base looks as if it would make for a comfortable ride

And notice how the wheel color accent matches the color of the roof and hood 🙂

Rick McQ — I’ve pasted the link to the WSET course at Johnson & Wales below. I took the intermediate level, and am considering the advanced (even more so with Julius’ feedback above). The problem is that I’m not necessarily flush with free time. And oh yeah, it’s just a hobby…

Did you take advantage of the free shipping when the Pats stomped on the Jets? I was traveling at the time so I called the following week and was told the shipping offer is only good for the week. Shasta. I now have 11/12/06 marked on my calendar.

Thanks for the information on the classes. I actualy did not take advantage of it because I had placed two orders a couple weeks prior. I ordered the Twenty Rows Cab (Love It) and mentioned it to my neighbor. She ordered a case and did not like it. So I bought it off her. Basically, I’ve Spent $600 on wine this month. So I was hoping to place it next month. Since, it expired I guess I can’t. If anymore wine shows up at my door my wife would be a little upset. Try to let the dust settle

  • Brandon,

We had about a glass and a half of the Dominus left in the bottle after dinner. Tried it again the next day and it showed a minor improvement. It went from a $8 bottle of wine to a $9 bottle of wine. Still, I came up $99 short. A pretty sad commentary on cult wines in my opinion.

  • Isn’t it sad how the cult wines continually under-deliver, but the one that hits a home run makes you come back again and again.

What was the year on the Dominus?

  • BTW, Tim F, I pretty much agree with you. Seems a bit weird to obsess so much about such things, though it certainly has its fun aspects. But this is how cults get started. Hmmmm…VaynerCULT. That could work! 😉

When Gary starts tasting Kool-Aid online, I’m going to really start worrying.

the few times I have spent more than $50 on a bottle more times than not I was disapointed and did not find anything to be better than most of the $15 bottles I buy. I no longer see much point spending more than $20-$25 on a bottle unless its a special occasion or I want to impress someone.

A while back I rented “John Cleese’s Wine for the Confused” DVD off of netflix and thought it was informative. A lot of the info is very basic but enjoyable

Is everyone going stir crazy without WLTV?? I use the time to research. If you step back and have a look at things – WOW – there are a lot of great wines out there right now. (It won’t always be this way) We have just been bombarded with 4-5 “classic” years depending on where. 2000 Bordeaux / 2001 Sauternes / 2002 Cali / 2003 Bordeaux / 2004 – ??? Sorry / 2005 BORDEAUX.. Jump on the wagon and get it done!!!

I think Australia was great in ’04 as well.

    Tony,

Heh Heh.. Nice obscure Jim Jones reference. I’m all for joining the “cult”, but if Gary decides to do the Wine Library Party Down in Guyana then I’m running the other way. 😉

Thanks for the Input Brandon M. I have not drank many of any 2004’s and do not drink many from Australia. I guess that I like a little more classic (old school) reds. I find most Australia to be over the top (like South America).

Have not had any 2004 German’s to date – But I love the 2005’s that I have had – Crisp – I think that they will age 5-10 easy and only get better (the crisp bitter will mellow and fruit will show more balance) LOVE EM!!!

BTW – Anyone have any great feedback on Ch. Beaucastel? I have only had 1x before and have recently picked up a couple which I figure I will let lie for at least 7-10 before popping and would like to know anyone’s comments before picking up more???

If we are going to be a cult, should we all go change into a matching black sweat suits with black and white nike shoes. Maybe to mark episode 200 our prophet Gary can select a “special” wine that we will all drink at the same time that will take our enlightenment to a whole new level, and make us one with prophet gary.

I do have a few questions before I join though…

    do we practice polygamy?

will I ever have to move to a compound?

do I have to go door to door to spread the word?

can we get tax exempt status from the government?

are we allowed to spill blood in the name of our prophet?

and yes I guess I am going stire crazy waiting for #100
