This is a perfect episode for me Gary! Thank you so much! I am always wanting to have a glass of wine but because I work 50 hrs a week and go to school full time I don’t want something that will make it a little harder to wake up the next day. Great stuff!

    Gary,
Have you ever hated a wine and then tasted, at a later date, the very same vintage and enjoyed it? Excluding a corked bottle of course. jp

    Gary,

Some of us are longer in the tooth than some of the kids who make “cool” comments, but we have unique requirements. For example, I don’t have 20 years to wait until a Bordeaux matures. Hence, my question: “I want a very good Bordeaux that I can drink TODAY! What vintage would you recommend, and give me a couple examples.”

  • My Cotes Du Rhone just showed up from episode #101 so I’m even MORE excited for this weekend. I’m gonna take my time and taste all four along with the episode and see if I can tastes the same things Gary does, or, taste some things my palette says are different.

QOTD – I read a TON of magazines so not a lot of time for books. Favorite magazines (Wired, Prosper, Dealer Marketing, Wine Spectator, Napa Sonoma)

Hope you are right about the Jets, cuz I tool them in my f-ball pool this week.

QOTD – I’m a cyclist so I’m reading Joe Friel’s “Cyclist Training Bible”. Also have a bunch of car magazines that I gotta get through.

    Enjoy your weekend.

first, thanks to jaye and paul for answering my question. i can see how a real collection would develop.with a reconstruction of the front exterior of our house planned in the next few years my hubby has suggested we could put a wine cellar in (essentially adding a windowless room in the basement), and part of me thinks that would be neato keen. but then i have the live-in-the-moment buddha in me reminding me how much i hate hoarding anything or planning 1 year ahead, let alone 20 years (which is why i’m in the life i’m in: not typical for someone who planned better). but, who knows…we’ll see where i’m at in 5 years when wltv is in it’s 1000th episode. 2000 bottles though? wow, that just seems freaky.

right now i’m looking forward to travelling, about an hour from now, for another family weekend (last weekend was our canuck thanksgiving which was spent with family too). i only need to pick out a wine from my scant collection before we go.

qod: i’m an academic so what i read i won’t bore you with but in my few free minutes each day i’m reading jay mcinerney’s book, bacchus & me: a hedonist in the wine cellar. my sister, knowing my interest picked it up for me, even though she thinks it’s a silly interest! 🙂

The only thing that would have made Madison M cuter is if she tipped that Insignia bottle right over the table. Caymus, Cinq Cepages, Silver Oak–Brandon M, when’s your next house tasting?

GV — I’m more of a magazine guy than books: Spectator, Enthusiast, Rolling Stone, Business Week, Highlights, Ladybug, Disney’s Princess… Sometimes I’m not sure which one is which.

    C’mon Jets, Cowboy Up!

Gary — I need to know if Coles is going to have a good game this weekend. I’ve got Chad Johnson, Andre Johnson, Coles, and Burress — I can only start 3. Who do I go with?

Loved the “School Night Wines” theme! Thanks for pulling out some value wines. I’ll be trying the Pieve Del Vescovo and Rocky Creek. …Come on Jets!

    Gary –

What a kvetch. Sour grapes, perhaps? Do I sense a bit of jealousy that your beloved Jets are not 4-1 like my “over rated” Ravens? I’d love to tell you that the Ravens will kick the Jets’ ass in the AFC Championship, but we both know that the Ravens will be playing another team. I greatly admire your willingness to put your money where you mouth is and offer free shipping if the Jets win on Sunday. Perhaps you may consider offeirng a free case of 2005 La Tour to all WLTV viewers if the Jets make the payoffs this season. Like either is going to happen. As they say in Jets country, there is always next year. The next time the Jets visit Baltimore, I expect you to call me becuase I want to take you to the game.

    Love the show, babe!

  • Would you believe that I’m reading “Wine Tasting: A Professional Handbook”? Perusing is more like it. It’s a textbook on all the ins and outs and chemistry of wine tasting. I think they use this a t UC Davis in the oenology program. Very dry, but lots of structure and complexity.

Gary, good luck to those Jets this weekend. I’d be interested in finding ANY Pinot Grigio that doesnt’ taste like all the rest. Any suggestions?

Liked your take on the Rocky Creek Zin, will have to check them out when my Rosenblum runs out…ahhem…never the cuvee, always a specific vinyard. I kinda liked them…

Anyway; QOD: I’m reading all of MFK Fisher’s books right now, starting with Sister Age. She’s a world traveler/foodie/storyteller of the past century.
Recomended by Julia Child and Ruth Reichl, fellow foodies.
    Have a great weekend..I will

    Hey Gary,

Great show….thanks for trying the Rocky Creek Zin. That girl in the intro was adorable. I just want to let you know that the Stallion will be doing a Gary Vaynerchuk wine tasting segment of his own. That should be real interesting.

QOD: I am reading the latest wine spectator, and I totally think they made a mistake by not putting Concha Y Toro Carmenere as one of the best deals for under $25…I mean the wine costs $8 and is atleast an 88-89 pointer in my book.

Question for you Gary….what is your favorite wine…not just one you scored a 100, but you absolute #1 favorite wine all time
