  • QOD: Funny you should ask…I’m currently reading “The Accidental Conniseour” by Lawrence Osbourn, which is a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BOOK IF YOU’RE INTO WINE!!!! Well written, fun to read. I’d send you a video thingy, but I have no way of doing that, so I probably won’t. Maybe by episode #2,934,902.

Anyway, most importantly: BEARS OVERRATED!?!?!?!?!?! Geez, we’ve got the best defense as far as points allowed AND we’ve got, if not the best, close to tops on points scored on offense. I’ll admit, our schedule is a bit easy this year and it sure helps that our division sucks crap, but HEY, whaddya gonna do. The 85 Bears had an easy schedule too for that matter and look where that got them. Either way…I’m fine with people rooting against the Bears cause they don’t like them, but, as a football fan, I LOVE what I see when I watch them play. That defense freakin’ HURTS people. The offense is scoring like we’ve (Chicago that is) has never known. It’s a perfectly balanced team. Barring any real significant injury, we’re going all the way. And, because the schedule is sooo easy (what, we got the Jets, Giants, Dolphins plus our crappy division) we actually have a chance to go 16-0. I think the Patriots will give us a bit of a hard time, but after that, it’s the Playoffs that will be the real match.

Sorry to rant. Go BEARS!!!!! And yes, Gary, you are correct in saying that the Ravens are overrated.

    See you later!!!

Dirty, dirty fish? Here’s a win-win- If the Jets win, free shipping for all. If the Dolphins win, free shipping for us. Get ready for a nice order (but will need to hold it a few more months until it cools off in Florida).

Great episode, I will add Rocky Creek to my order (with free shipping due to the Dolphins victory).

QOD: Not reading much, except preparation for boards.

What is the purpose of posting “#24”? Do you feel dumb when you post “top 10” and are the 11th poster? How ’bout “#3” when you are actually the fourth? What about the fifth? Or “11”, and you’re the 12th??

I just don’t get it. Gary uses the number of comments as a measuring stick, but for the life of me cannot figure these posts out. I mean, there hasn’t been a t-shirt offered in 50 episodes or so, correct?

Thanks to all those who post notes with substance- be it wine, football, your precious daughter, etc.

    Gary,

I am also reading the Accidental Connoosseur (I work with Tony S.).

THE BEARS ARE NOT OVERRATED!!!!!!!!. The Ravens are though. Let me explain.

The Bears went 10-6 last year with absolutely no, and I mean NO offence. Now we have one of the best offences to go along with our UNSTOPPABLE …er unscoreagainstable DEFENSE!

Also, the Bears have too much depth this year. Just about every Bear with the exeptions of John Tait, Olin Kreutz and Robbie Gould could get hurt, (I’m knocking on wood right now) and we would have a stater caliber player to take his place. Maybe long snapper Patrick Mannely we couldn’t lose.

Plus, with our schedule we can seriously go 16-0. Especially with the freakin’ Jets coming up. Even when we’ve played good teams like Seattle and Buffalo we’ve made them look like little school girls out there. Minnesota was the only close game and we still pulled out a win.

YOU ARE GOING TO EAT THOSE DAMN WORDS VAYNERCHUK!!!!!! AND YOU’RE GOING TO WASH THEM DOWN WITH SOME ROSENBLUM ZIN VVXXXII OR WHATEVER LOT THEY’RE ON, AND SOME 2004 BV CHARD, NAPA.

    GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

    “It’s crisp, it’s clean…It’s a wine. 82 points.” I was 😀 well into the next wine review.

I am just beginning a book called “Enough” by Juan Williams. I also just received the latest Wine Spectator, Food & Wine and Automobile magazines.

    Have a good weekend folks.

Go Tigers! Up 2-0 in the ALCS.

Go Lions! (For the love of God, can we get just one win this season?)

    Couple of things I forgot.

    Madison’s intro is precious.

Mike P (comment #26) I heard Gary’s comment, too. Funny.

    To Karl Satrilev,

First of all you can find 20 year old (and older)Bordeaux out there with good provenence. Other than that I would recommend drinking. 99, 97 (green vintage, so you’d better like back end and tannin), 94 (sleeper), 98 (right bank vintage, some sleepers on the left) and lower tier 2000.

  • Finally, the California cabernet vs. Bordeaux episode you’ve all been waiting for is online! That’s right, Two Buck Chuck goes toe to toe with Costco Kirkland Pauillac. Which wine is better? Are either drinkable? Is Tony a better wine reviewer than Gary (I already know the answer is no)? Watch now and find out!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=816toJzgidM

Sorry, Gary, but I went ahead and started WLTV II, like ESPN2. Maybe you can use that idea for people can post their own wine reviews. Or not. Lord knows I’m not as charismatic as you.

BTW, that’s my wine fridge behind me in the video.

Make a point not to read books… Wine Spectator and USA Today every weekday. All other info comes from online sources.

    GO JETS = FREE SHIPPING.

Question – Is there a catch? Do I have to order a complete case to get free shipping or can I order like 2,3,4 bottles? Also – When the Jets win, where do I get the shipping code?? Do I need to e-mail you Gary to get it?

  • Matteo

    Tony – good spoof

I have never tried decanting Two Buck Chuck. It would be interesting to see if Gary would taste this and compare to your score. Great Job

  • Jason R,

Actually, that was the second take, but I never got to tasting the wines in the first take. I flubbed the intro first time around and then started over. Other than that, it was straight through. Couldn’t think of a QOD, though. 🙁

I need to work on being a little more entertaining, but I don’t think I have the charisma of Gary – and I don’t have a loser team to root for. It was fun, though. I can see why Gary gets so jazzed doing it. I might just add a vlog to my wine blog.

Good episode, Gary. It was good to see an inexpensive Cali Zin come to the forefront. On reading: after watching President Hugo Chavez skewer President George Bush in front of the UN general assembly (Pres. Chavez was pretty funny in my opinion) I got the book he recommended everyone read which is Hegemony or Survival by Noam Chomsky. It is a powerful indictment of US foreign policy over the last 50 years which really helps to make sense of the reasons we have been at war so frequently. I may not be as funny or charismatic as Pres. Chavez, but I too urge folks to read this book (preferably with a nice bottle of wine to sip.) Jim

I am reading sports history as usual. “My Name is Mister Ryan” by Matt Chaney. The story of the Puxico, MO high school basketball team that won the Missouri State Championship in 1951 & 1952. They went 40-0 in ’50-’51 and 39-2 in ’51-’52. Win Wilfong who went #4 in the 1957 NBA draft (Hawks)was the top player. The other 4 starters played Division I ball at Memphis State and St.Louis. Puxico scored over 100 points in 13 games in ’50-’51, averaged 138 per game in the 1951 sub regionals (4 games). Won the 1952 State Tournament championship game 85-37 over Shelbyville. Norm Stewart’s high school team. The Milan,IN “Hoosiers” team would not want to play Puxico. GO Jets! – Free shipping.

What am I reading you ask, well I am currently reading the very fun and exciting book by Mitchell & Jolley called “Psychological Reseach Design Explained”, the fourth edition of course. Now as if that wasn’t exciting enough, I’ve been getting really crazy lately, and I’ve been occasionally reading sections of “The New Edition of Home Improvements 1-2-3” put out by Home Depot. (you may have heard of it). I find the sections on Plumbing, and on Cabinetry to be exceptionally entertaining. You may be bold enough to say that these section are “The Bee’s Knees”.

Good episode today Gary, sounds like I have two wine to try this weekend. Actually, I’ll save them for Tues and Thurs; (school nights).

Brandon was that your daughter? She’s an adorable kid. I’d make a vid intro of my daughter but she’s only 5 months old, so it may be a bit too soon, oh well.

  • OK. Someone asked that we upload photos of our wine collections. Great idea! I’d love to see everyone’s – particularly John Manzi’s custom wine room. I got nuthin’ like that. Just bottles stashed around the house.

The good stuff goes here: http://flickr.com/photos/52842899@N00/268923734/ in a 100 bottle wine fridge.
