Gary I drink my wine at the little table in our living room while eating dinner with my gal. Or even more fun while I am cooking dinner.

BTW as to that screwcap on the New Zealand SB, there is also a possibiltity that wines get TCA from the winery as well as the cork.. I have had corked tasting wines under screwcap.. However I’m sure that wine was not corked.

By the way Served the Lagler Gruner Veltliner that you sell at thanksgiving as well as the Novelty Hill Syrah. Everybody loved them. The gruner is as good as some I have had at Twice the Price. I also served that falling Tractor Zin, and the Starry Night Zin.. they were real crowd pleasers. I normally would serve old world style reds too. But the majority of the people at this particular dinner were “new worldies”. and I of course love all styles of wine from super austere Loire to That crazy Syrah that you tasted. The more flavors in the world, the better as far as I’m concerned.

As always an entertaining episode. Congrats on your JETS! Interesting analogy and quite a surprise with the Run DMC/Kanye West remark. Sad to hear that you weren’t impressed with the Sequoia Grove, as I have enjoyed their non-reserve bottling on numerous occasion in the past with Michael Trujillo (I believe you said Mark T btw =p) taking over the winemaking with the 2002 vintage. A baby Karl Lawrence in my opinion. I guess I’ll pazzzz on the reserve bottling and stick with the non-reserve.

As for your QOD- I drink mostly in my den while I’m doing work on the computer OR with friends at their homes or restaurants.

Thanks for the hookup on the tote bags! As always, good looking out!

Good job GV. I was disappointed to see you give the Caro a “pazzzzzzzzzzzzz”. I actually have a bottle in my collection at home although it is a 2001 which I think was a better year for Chile/Argentina. I will have to check it out soon and post my tasting notes on the forum.

QOD: Most of the wine I drink is in the kitchen or living room, depending on whether I am eating or just drinking.

Anyway, it was great meeting you on Friday. The tasting was awesome and I was able to pick up a bottle of the Schild which I definitely loved.

As an Italian wine guy, I have to impart the only bit of wine wisdom that I’m sure I’ll ever be able to pass to you: The King of Italian wine grapes, Sangiovese, is pronounced “Sahn-joe-Vay-zeh.” Sorry Gary, you are a wine demi-god, but my Italian ancestors were crying out me on that one. jp

Wah. Houston got beat. (am I surprised? Well, not really)

Now I need to pay for shipping. Oh well. A deal is a deal.

I drink almost all my wine at the dinner table.

QOD – Drink mainly at home or at my sisters. Or at Langmeil Winery where I frequent on a weekly basis sometimes up to 3 times per week! With a 5 month old we don’t tend to get out too much for dinners.

Can you please try the Langmeil 2004 Valley Floor Shiraz…

Congrat on Jet win. Were you holding your breath when Penninton went down? I was glad when he raised his arms as he went off (that’s from a Houston fan). Drink more wine at computer desk, since TV mostly sucks.

Nice job today Gary. How much of that Garretson do you have in the store? Cause I think I might be one of the one’s whose gonna love it. Yo thanks again for Friday, you definitly did the right thing by all of us and for that I have to give you props. Most of my wine gets drank at the crib, pretty much all over it too with the exception of my bedroom and the bathroom. If i had to pick the most popular room I’d say the kitchen.

Great show today Gary. Welcome back. I look forward to seeing what I missed at the Fri. tasting.

QOD: I drink most of my wine with food, either at home or out at dinnner. I usually drink in the context of a meal (before, during, or after dinner).

I have had the Garretson “The Craic” Syrah and it was the darkest wine I ever drank. It was completely New World and definitely more of a cocktail wine than something to drink with food, which is fine. It was delicious actually. As for the Bulladoir, I don’t know if I would want to pay $55 for a cocktail. I also recently had their viognier, but it was oxidized (unless viognier is supposed to be amber like an ale). Oh well.

Big win for the Jets. If they keep winning it is going to be really hard to buy them.

GV-Nice ep as usual. I’ve been thinking this for a long time, but after todays ep I have to comment. You have an uncanny range of flavors and aromas in your memory bank. But even more amazing, you can recall them. Your access speed is amazing. Evidently wine doesn’t kill brain cells. You must have had quite a childhood to be exposed to all those smells and tastes.
QOD I am drinking the Chainti Coli Sensi while I am typing this and really enjoying it. It beats the Cananica A Cerreto I had last week. No one enjoyed it. So, at the computer, in the great room watching the news or with dinner. Always late afternoon. Mostly before dinner but some with dinner. Usually I prefer the wine without food, maybe some crackers and cheese. However, I do enjoy certain good bottles with food also. Like the Eagle Point Syrah with grilled steak on Saturday.
For the most part I am a silent but ever present vaniac since 2001.

  • Great episode as usual…honesty is great, especially with wine. Yes, thank you for mentioning that the Bears lost. They did indeed. I really have nothing against the Jets, so congrats on their win. Stupid Patriots. Dumb quarterback that my wife is in love with. OK, forget it.

Anyway, QOD: If we’re at home: Anywhere in the house will do. I don’t have a special spot. If I’m watching tv, it’s in front of the tv; if I’m at the computer (ya…very rarely at home!) it’s at the computer; if I’m organizing a room or something, it’s where I’m at; if it’s with dinner, it’s at the dinner table. Whatever.

Now, if I’m out at a nice dinner, it’s at the restaruant and if I’m at a bar or having dinner at a bar food type place, it’s an ice cold beer. Probably a cheap one.

So, where do you drink you’re wine?
    T
    GO BEARS!!!

Gary- Nice win for the Jets. I am rooting for them in the AFC. After yesterday, the Bears should be ready for the ‘domer Vikings in the outdoor cold weather in Chicago. Your descriptions were particularly vivid today, although the no-taste Sequoia was obviously a challenge. Great job.

QOD- At home, usually the kitchen or family room. Out of the house, we try for BYO restaurants where it is fun to bring bottles that might complement the fare.

Great episode. As a Georgia Bulldogs fan, I was intrigued about the Garretson. However, I was wondering, how does a wine like that have so much alcohol, yet keep the taste of sugar? I am sure it is not fortified, and I doubt it is something specific about the syrah grape (or I have never had a Rhone varietal that was both sweet and high in EtOH, nor a California syrah, nor a Aussie Shiraz).

Jets in the playoffs? Watch out for those dirty fish- my cart is getting filled up, and I am waiting for another free shipping day!

    Hunker down dawgs!

Drink it in the kitchen, with cheese, while cookiung- saving a glass for the meal, of course.

Question- I’ve recently started sloshing the wine around in my mouth to expose more of my palate to the wine, but i’m finding that this usually brings about unpleasant flavors, usually green pepper or brussel sprouts. Am I just choosing to do this on crappy wines, or do i just need more practice?

  • 97Brunello

nice episode and great variety of flavors. The last wine sounded borderline and was a bit surprised at the generous 94 pt. score! QOTD: dining room, TV room, in front of computer while watching WLTV, patio, swimming pool, wine cellar.

Gary – will you do a sherry episode please? Here are my requests and the WL codes:
    Alvear Fino – 21068
Pedro Romero Amontillado Dry Rich – 6263
Pedro Romero Dry Oloroso – 6265
    Aurora Manzanilla – 6259
Lustau Deluxe Cream Sherry – 14934 (this one especially since it’s the closest you carry to a full Pedro Ximenez, which I wish you stocked – Alvear does a lovely one…)

Loved the show GV, amazingly clever and vivid descriptors as usual. Nice job with the brutal honesty on some over-hyped wines, and exposing a potential diamond in the rough with the Barbera.

QOTD – almost always in the kitchen – cooking, eating, and cleaning in our nook. Though a recent new favorite is on our front porch while watching my boys play and bike with the neighbors on an autumn Sunday afternoon.

  • Gary,

Awesome episode. I was going through WLTV withdrawl over the holidays.

QOD: For some strange reason I drink most of my wine standing up in the kitchen. Sometimes with meals sitting down, at the computer while watching or in the family room watching TV but mostly standing, pacing, meandering in the kitchen while picking on cheese, crackers, olives, etc.
