Nice comeback wrt the wine glass. That’s what I luv about WLTV.

I like a good sirloin buger, made with whole fillet of sirloin (preferably prime), cut, then put thru the food processor with kosher (or sea) salt. Medium cooked on a grill. Served on a potato bun with a little ketchup. Bacon and cheese ain’t bad either. Pickles and fries on the side. I luv pickles especially the sour garlic ones. Then wash it down with an ice cold beer like a stout. Heavenly!

    Good luck on Sunday.

  • Tom T.

    Ooops, burger, not buger 🙂
Also like Rock ‘n Roll burgers like we in NJ can get at the malls.

Good job dodging the slings and arrows Gary.

In response to Mr Blotto-JJ PRUM!!!! the alpha-dog of German Riesling-I mean incredible stuff. About a year ago I tasted a vertical of some of his Kabinets and other stuff since about 1997 through 2005. Awesome. And Alsatian stuff, all the single property Zind Humbrecht stuff, Julian Meyer Grittermatte 2001, Rene Ostertag, etc, etc. Gary is so right on this, taste more Riesling, perhaps better riesling and it all makes sense.

Simpsons cup was great, although it needed a blue twisty straw for full effect.
QOTD:I love a good crumble of Gorgonzola Dolce, or Cabrales, or if you want to stay American a hunk of Maytag blue. A thick slice of Vidalia. I also like the vampire factor, no beef above medium rare.

Pop the pretentious! Way to go, Gary. medium rare Kobe burger with bacon, melted blue cheese, vidalia onion slice and a small dollop of German mustard.

Great show and I agree with you wholeheartedly about the glass debate. Way to stick it to the snobs who give reguylar wine connoisseurs a bad rap. And I was holding my breath to hear your answer to the question regarding Rieslings as nothing more than wine coolers! Yes, the person who wrote the question is worthy of an butt-kicking. The same type of kicking Peyton will bestow on your buddy Herm (We Won, They Lost) Edwards.

Have a great time this weekend and I’ll be rooting for your boys in green.

QOD: Favorite burger? I only eat burgers during the summer off the grille and prefer them stuffed with bleu cheese. Yum!

    Go Colts and Jets!

Another fine episode. Love the dedication, the humanity. Plastic cup was hilarious. The Riesling rant was brilliant. Gary V., the hardest working man in the wine biz!

GV — there’s definitely something in the air. You’re on your way up here to Providence, the Jets are playing the Pats in the playoffs, I’m bidding obscene bones for the same plastic cup that I used to drink beer out of in college…

    It’s out of control baby.

See you on the streets this weekend…

    Gary,
Thanks for answering my question. I will definitely get a bottle of sweetest Riesling for my father as well as the driest for myself. Great suggestion.
I bought him Louis Latour Beaujolais Villages once but no success. I drank it all.

    QOTD:

I like my burger medium rare with no bun and fries on the side. All on the nice plate with a glass of red. No ketchup.

As far as â??typicalâ? sirloin burger-grilled Vidalia onions on top with melted cheese.

Nice episode Gary…I have to admit, I wasn’t fond of the glass yesterday for some reason, but to each his own. If it is your cup of tea, then use the damn thing! 🙂

QOD: Grilled Burger with Mayo, Jalapenos and some sharp-sharp-sharp Cheddar. YUM!

Oh, did I hear a remark about my beloved Cubbies?? 2007 is our year baby!

And finally….please SHIP TO MICHIGAN OR INDIANA so I can share in all of this fun and maybe pick up some Clone 5 while I’m at it!! Go Jets!

Hey, that was a great idea–wines that taste good in a pool party glass. I loved the show.

To Mr. Blotto, the guy who says rieslings taste like a wine cooler without the fizz, put down that pretty blue Schmitt Söhne bottle, stop taking home the bottle because you think the blue nun looks hot and drink some real riesling. Here’s the sad part, a bottle will cost more than the $6 you are paying now. Drop me a line and I’ll be happy to send you my list of life-changing Rieslings you can afford. (It’s getting shorter, because Gary keeps selling out of my picks)

    Gary, You’re a f-ing MANIAC!! Hysterical!!

I just finished SS work and here’s the funniest line (IMHO):
Just before tasting the last (3rd) wine, Gary is talking about how well the SIMPSONS cup is performing and says,

“It’s doing a NICE job. As a matter of fact, I might patent this one and put Riedel out of businessâ?¦..those SONS-of-BITCH’s”

Also, VERY funny when you repeat Mr BLOTTO’s “all-freakin-ready” line TWICE. Thanks for the laughs (and the wines of course)!

Funniest episode yet! And another episode on budget wines! It shows that you empathize with the common man – you know, the one who doesn’t have an entire wine library at his disposal. A shame about the shiraz not being as good as you remember. The Ercavio is available at my local liquor store, though, so I’m definitely going to pick up a couple of bottles.

QOTD – Buffalo burgers cooked on my grill. Charcoal only, not the new world gas grill.

    Fun Show Gary!

I agree with the comments that Mr Blotto has to try soem REAL RIESLINGS. Riesling are absolutesly great wines and unbelivable values considering the quality. You can gets some World Class wines from German that are a tremendous value compared to the price. Earlier in the 1900, Mosel wines were more prized then many wines from Burgundy or Bordeaux.

Jon E and Gene V made some great suggestions. Try some Kabinetts from the Mosel, Rheingau, or Pfalz regions of German. Although some have a hint of sweetness, they are balanced by nice acidity. And many are dry. Try a Gunderloch Jean Batiste which is dry and under $20. Another nice introduction is a Chateau Ste Michelle – Eroica jointly produced from Washington State with Dr. Loosen a top wine maker from Germany. Once you try these You’ll see why many consider the Riesling the greatest of the white grapes. Mr Blotto, you have some great tasting ahead of you.

As to the QOTD: I enjoy a nice sirloin burger, grilled medium rare, on a “hard roll”, with some lettuce and sliced jersey tomato fresh from the garden. If the tomatoes aren’t in season, then some chedder and bacon does quite well.

This is a first time comment from this long time lurker from Louisiana. I’ve enjoyed WLTV since the beginning and have told many friends to watch. Being new to the wonderful world of wine, Gary has been a GREAT help to me and others. I have enjoyed witnessing the “evolution” of the show and of Gary’s showmanship. Thanks WLTV
