EP 161 Petite Sirah Wines After a Big Loss

Wines tasted in this episode:

Petite Sirah is it the same as Syrah? Is Petite Sirah bigger or smaller then Syrah? Is Petite Sirah the same as Durif? All these questions and more will be answered by a sad Gary Vaynerchuk.

Just came back from Napa and tried some great Petite Sirahs, have had some over the yrs but maybe only a couple times a year, now I will seek them out more, not had these Gary drank yet. QOTD-too broad a questions, depends on what caused the sadness..Jets losing which caused you to shave would be a Cab. http://www.winelx.com

That was terrible!! So sorry you’re so sad, Gary, but I hope you get back to it soon.

QOTD – whatever I run into first.

    TRUE STORY,
On December 19th my girlfriend broke up with me. (we live together) and so I moved my stuff into the second bedroom of our apartment. I set up an old iMac that I have and plugged it in and like magic had a wireless signal. Things are looking up. She gets the TV room, and I have to suffer with old iMac and no Tivo. But that same day I discovered WLTV on Digg. Well, I must have watched 30 episodes that first day to catch up and so not to be seen in the little apartment we have. well one of them was episode 100 that really touched me. It was the pride your father showed of you. This sounds so silly, I know but I decided that I wanted that from my GF and family. So, inspired by your success and enthusiasm, I decided to get back to work in real estate and get back into the nice things I used to enjoy like wine, cheese, and cooking and golf. Things have turned around dramatically and because you update almost daily, I have a reminder and an enthusiastic friend in the computer box telling me to stay on path. so what wine do I drink when I’m sad? Il Bastardo, its cheap and goes with crappy pizza, how sad. Chin up Vaynerchuk, and thanks for being an inspiration to this young businessman…..oh and my girl let me back in the bedroom!

Gary, you showed alot of heart today by showing up and cranking one out.

That’s what it’s about folks: showing up.

    QOTD answer: chocolate milk.

    Grackle out.

Gary, Your misery was palpable. I was waiting for you to snap the thin neck of your wine glass. Thanks for taking one for the team, playing hurt and doing a show for Vayniac-nation. Oh yeah, and thank you for not shaving naked.

  • jared

yes it does suck the jets lost to the patsies, but it was a much better season than we had expected. 10-6 was great. also, as was mentioned above they are in a great cap position with only anthony clement on the roster to sign. at least herm lost as well…do you get jets confidential or jetsinsider.com? if not look them up….

By FAR the best WLTV episode I’ve ever watched. I love you Gary, but you were becoming a little too obnoxious. Glad you’re back down on earth with the rest of us 😉 It’s just a game. Get over it. Now get back to work.

    Wow!

132 comments (with this one) and climbing. Not that the Jets lost, but that GV looked so down pulled the sympathy strings on (most) of us including the most lurkers to ever log in to comment (I think).

So . . . weep, moan, and wail. Get it out of your system and come back as the Vay – ner – chuck that we all love.

QOTD: Beer (Just not Sam Adams).

  • Gary,
Lift up your skirt. No one likes a trash talker that puts his tail between his legs when it hits the fan. Perhaps flexing your beer muscles is best. Hopefully the shaved facial hair was glued to your chest; be a man damnit!

Cheer up ole’ chap; more was lost during the Civil War. Besides, this was the first time Jets make it to playoffs since 1960’s? Try to look at the glass 1/2 filled : )

I usually don’t get depressed, but when I go blue, I like to drink a nice merlot with earthy tones; especially the ones that have wet tombstone nuances on the nose : )

Gary so so sad. Just needed a funeral hymn or dirge and I would have cried.

Know how you feel as sometimes when one of my teams lose a playoff game/series I can’t real the sports page for a few days.

I feel your pain, Gary. I’ve been there. 2001 Superbowl Rams Vs. Patriots(I choke on that word). I was behind your team all the way, my friend. Not only because of the 2001 outcome, but because I have the utmost respect for your team (THE JETS! goddarn it! – A Frick’n Work’n Man’s Team) and your obvious love and support for their success, which I commend in you and them. May the Pat’s lose it in humiliating style against the Chargers: 24-7.

    Mike Workman

PS: #161 – It’s back to work, Buddy. Good job. I didn’t know a damn thing about ‘Petite’ Sirah. But now I do. Hey….just do’in what I can in my small circle to change that wine world.

  • I knew as soon as you said your name that it was going to be a rough episode…..
Hey Gary, now you know how we felt when Zidane head butted Materazzi. And we have to wait FOUR YEARS for another shot.
QOD: Margeritas with really really good quality tequila.

  • Skol

To get over things I have no control over I usually drink a nice burgundy, preferably a 2002.
Jean-Marc Bouley – Pommard, “Les Fremiers”
    or
    Jean Tardy, Chambolle-Musigny Les Athlets,

Puts you in the right spirits.

How many other disappointed Jets fans have hundreds of strangers commiserating with them? You are truly blessed.

QOTD: only you can answer that – look to your personal favs to cheer you up with a sure thing you can count on.

Wallow in it. Feel it. Let it take you over. And then rebound. Life.

By the way…it’s happening to me right now with my beloved Buck’s.

Thanks for bucking up and doing a show today — it had to have been hard to get inspired! I love Pets and think it is one of those “hidden” varietals that can offer great value because it is just off the radar screen of many wine drinkers.

QOTD — I share some bubbly with a friend. I don’t drink alone if I am down and it is hard to stay down when you pop open a nice sparkler.

P.S. — to Joey daMush — please note that there are other words other than “gay” that mean “lame, unacceptable, bad, etc.” than the word “gay.” Those of us who are “gay” get tired of the word being used as an insult. We are all Vaynaics — gay, straight, or whatever…..

    Gary…..
I am a huge Dallas fan…..you want to talk about being SAD?? I would have rather the Cowboys have been beat REAL bad then bummbling an easy 20 yard field goal to end the season. Cheer up man! Oh…when the Cowboys lost I skipped the wine and went straight for the Ardbeg single malt scotch.

Stop crying about the friggin Jets! At least you didnt make an error in a world series game. My wife and kids still dont talk to me and my dog pisses in my frosted flakes every morning.

  • Foster

    Gary,

Long time lurker (watched since the WL tour episode) brought out by this episode, and the push for 150 comments, which I know will cheer you up. All I can say is at least you’re not an Ohio State fan. Wow.

I’ve enjoyed the Concannon PS several times before and always think it’s a great value. I know you’re too “down” today for fun facts about the winery, so I’ll fill in.

“Concannon has a history of firsts. Its austere vineyards produced the worldâ??s first Petite Sirah from the 1961 vintage. Its innovation pioneered the creation of the widely adopted Cabernet Sauvignon Clones 7 and 8, securing Concannon Vineyard’s prominent place in the annals of California viticulture and planting most of Napaâ??s Cabernet vineyards. And its eye for winemaking talent discovered Americaâ??s first female winemaker, a Hungarian ballerina named Katherine Vajda.” – winery website

QOD – Nothing. Not until you suck it up and get back to being you. I know you’re only messing around, but remember there are far too many things in life that are actually worth being sad about.
