Impressive for the wine to hold up…QOTD-long time ago, maybe being a 90 day wonder in Mgmt Trainee program in the Banking business and becoming a Asst Bank Manager…glad I am out of that business… http://www.winelx.com

1982: Penn State, alma Mata of myself and Lance Mehl, wins its first national Championship by stopping Heisman Trophy winner, Herschel Walker in the Sugar Bowl.

Gary, how could a 1982 Ponet Canet NOT have sediment in 2007? I usually handle an old bottle like that much more carefully (not shake it about) and decant it carefully to remove the clear wine from the sediment.

Anyway, thanks for opening an old vintage live. I love drinking older vintages and I think it is uncommon for many Americans – so thanks for bringing an old vintage to life!

1982….I’m going to have to say first kiss.

sounds like that wine would be good with the leftover brussel sprouts I just have.

Best thing about 1982: A case of Basics Beer was $5
    Worst thing: the NFL strike
and I’m sure GV was excited to see his idol, Mark Gastineau, make the Pro Bowl!

  • I’m still blocking out 1982. The Jets beat the Mighty Vikes 42-14 during that strike shorted season. How could that happen?

QOD- The Milwaukee Brewers make the World Series, blow a 3-2 game lead and lose to the Cardinals in seven games. The Brewers have never even made the playoffs, much less the World Series, since. The Cardinals did not win a World Series after that until 2006. I’m not sure what’s best about all that, but I remember from growing up in Wisconsin.

There is no way a 1982 Pontet Canet had no sediment. That should have been decanted carefully before you drank it, Gary. Watching you shake the bottle around, then pour it indiscrimately into the decanter, made me shudder. Of course once you’d done that it didn’t matter that you poured it back and forth. The damage was already done!!!! You couldn’t have properly evaluated it at that point. Do you suppose the 1982s from your 100 point dinner were treated that way?

Everything you have done to date on WLTV has been great. This just pissed me off. But I love you still.

QOTD – the 1982 Bordeaux in the cellar I haven’t had yet. And I’ll carefully decant every one.

Interesting show, as always Gary. Being a newbie, I’m interested in the right way to store wine. How long is it acceptable to keep a wine stored at room temperature?
QOTD: 1982 starting jr. year at college, being an RA; what a blast!

1982 – year of my graduation from HS and the partying in Daytona beach. Sorry, no wine but beer, whiskey and girls were the best. Then, started college in the fall and guess what – the party got better. Music was so much better then!!!

1982. I turned 18, and in Canada, that meant being able to (legally) drink. Also it was sophomore year of college, and I managed to pull my grades up to the point that I was no longer on academic probation from my freshman year of (illegal) drinking. Also, The Jam released “Town Called Malice”, Wall of Voodoo releases “Mexican Radio” and XTC released “Senses Working Overtime”. The music was great, just not all of it.

QOTD: in 1982, the Los Angeles Lakers swept Phoenix and San Antonio, then beat Philadelphia (speaking of armpits) in six games to win the Championship!

For me 1982 was Millburn HS graduation and trying (unsuccessfully) to buy beer at Mill-Spring Liquors… which was bought the following year by some Russian family. I don’t think they ever made anything of the place. Then off to college… Van Halen at the Spectrum in Philly was memorable.

    Hey Gary,

Glad to see you are back to form, you have that spark again.

QOTD: 1982 gave us “Rocky 3” which ruled.

And, on a sad note, a moment of silence for John Belushi (1949 – 1982).

    That’s right, Belushi died in ’82… I can’t believe it’s been 25 years.
    He was a genius.
