Great episode, Gary. Glad to have you back. Can’t wait to try some South African wine after watching this.

    QOTD, favorite website huffingtonpost.com

However, I spend the most time on ebay, since I’m an ebay seller, but that’s work. For fun I browse huffington and of course WLTV is taking up a lot of my time since I found you recently. 😉

    HI there Gary,
My DH has been hooked on you! He sits hear with his head set on “Laughing, agreeing and really enjoying you.” I now see why!
I can`t say I missed you because I`m fairly new to you!
I enjoyed your weird mood today!
I must say I don`t ever recall having a had semillion.
I recently e-mailed you. I`m sure you remember it was about mead! I`m a bit leery about trying it. I did pick up a bottle from the wine library. You have three different ones and I asked about it and was directed toward them and they left hanging. NO Advice about them! I kinda figured that much. I`m not saying that the guys at the wine library aren`t helpful. They are very very very helpful, as the one guy that helped with my purchase of Grappa. And the tall guy there is also great! Sorry don`t know their names. Well, I bought the Lurgashall mead 2005. I`m guessing that this is a mistake to buy!?!? (As my hands are waving!) LOL! I can`t believe you didn`t knock the bottles of wine over?
If you recall the sight I hang at is recipezaar.com and we are getting a wine tasting together and this one of the wines we are trying.
Here`s the page that it`s all going to be happening

QOTD2 – http://www.pemberley.com — devoted to all those things Jane Austen. The great thing about Jane Austen is that her books pair well with any kind of wine.

Condado de Haza looks like Pesquera if you squint a little. Are they related?

QOD1: White Bordeaux is on the shortlist. Other than that, I don’t think I know from Semillon.

    QOD2: http://www.dailykos.com and http://www.cookingforengineers.com (brilliant).

Nice episode â?? the De Toren sounds like a wine I would enjoy. Iâ??ll need to seek some of that out.

QOD #1: Aside from Sauternes, which is made from the Semillon grape, Iâ??ve had Bordeaux Blancs from Pessac-Leognan and Chateau La Louviere. Both of these wines are most likely Semillon blended with Sauvignon Blanc. The only 100% Semillon that I can remember having was from Rosemount and it was only OK.

QOD #2: The very first website I read every day is: http://www.cyclingnews.com/
    Also, I frequently read http://goski.com/ , http://www.eurosport.com/ & http://espn.go.com/ . Although there is some wien related content, I also read http://www.epicurious.com/

  • Same comment as users above: I’ve tasted Semillon in blends (Chateau Guiraud) and late-harvest/botrytized Sauternes wines (like Chat. Haut-Bergeron 2003, Chat. Filhot 2001). I haven’t tried my better Sauternes yet (Chat. Suduiraut 2001, Chat. Rieussec 2003), and I haven’t tried any D’Yquem yet (although I did buy my Dad a 2004 “Y” from D’Yquem).

Just stumbled across this wikipedia listing for Wine Library, and even updated it a little bit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_Library_TV

I haven’t tried a Semillon before but it’s on my ‘to drink’ list now.

QOTD – This one is mandatory for grad students! Piled Higher and Deeper Comics – http://www.phdcomics.com/comics.php

If you think the Barrosa is good you should try the hunter valley in NSW.

  • Been drinking Semillion longer than you have been alive Gary. You may or may not remeber that most of the original white wine from California was not Chardonnay but Semillion and was it bad stuff. Until I tasted a Sauterne I didn’t know you could actually make good wine from Semillion grapes. My favorite other than French is Kalin from CA that makes a very interesting Semillion and a Semillion/Chardonnay blend. You should try Kalin if you have never tried it.

    QOD–

Yes. Lots. It is good if generally unexceptional and ordinary juice, except in its Sauternes incarnations and the occasional aged dry renditions from France and Australia. Burge Family makes a lovely young unblended Semillon. All of the Great Forgotten White Wine of the world– Bordeaux Blanc– contain some percentage of Semillon blending with the majority Sauv Blanc.

Gary, Sorry I’m late to the party. Nice episode, I appreciate the variety. My favorite site is radioparadise.com a great eclectic streaming music site, run by a refugee free-form DJ from the 70s. A great mix, much like today’s episode.
    Peace…

Nice varietal.
