Huge # of comments, maybe the most up to this point. Don't have that many Bordeaux in Cellar (over priced), much more Cali Cabs. Nice to own a wine store… QOTD-tonight (Cab) 3 yrs ago?? http://www.winelx.com

Nice episode, I love seeing you taste the cult wines of our era (when they are available for sale to collectors). QOTD: I think I’ll have a 2002 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cab, which is one of my all time favorites. What do you think of the Silver Oak wines?

Glad to see you back on the job. In one of my senior moments, I opened the WOTM #4 wine a week early, so tonight I will be finishing off a bottle of ’99 La Palazzola Merlot from Umbria. Wine Liability gets credit for introducing the great wine to me through the 2000 vintage, at half what my local source was selling it for. Then I found the ’99 being closed-out at a good price and bought several of them.

Congratulations, SteveK!
QOTD: ’05 Bluefish Riesling. Peculiar- forget Wine Enthusiast- nicer on the nose than on the palate. Garbage (I think). I’ll probably dump it. Not nearly as nice as the OJAI ’04 Syrah Stolpman I had the other night that Gary recommended (thank you, by the way… it was nice).
Are we getting closer to the goal?

Wow, comments are coming fast and furious. I’ve got my bottle of 2003 Mercouri Antares all decanted and tasted — notes are ready for Jaye’s post.

I have been lurking since I got back from vacation so I thought I would drop a line. I’m looking forward to hearing about more value Bordeaux and your trip. Tonight I will have a 2005 La Montecchia Godimondo Cabernet Franc with some pizza.

2005 Bordeaux is getting really pricey. From what I have tasted, 2003 second growths are pretty good drinking wines although not necessarily consistent.

I think Gary was fumbling for COMPOTE but I am not sure.

I am going to have some Waltzing Vine Shiraz from the old box.

Did you know T-day is almost 8 months away? I wouldn’t get too worked up yet.

OK, looks like we are in triple digits. Need to kick it up a notch to reach 300.

QOTD: Watched your show drinking the NO Sauvignon Blanc and will now finish off the Three Miners Pinot I opened last night.

I wish you would get more of the Rottlan. That is some nice weekday quaffing juice.

Cheers!

• Great show today Gary–I found your comments on the last wine tasted especially informative and also amusing.

Did you ever consider seriously practicing juggling wine corks? classic.

QOTD: Ognissole Primitivo di Manduria 2005 (Feudi–from Campagnia of all places). This wine is sick. Good sick. Tasted right out of the bottle, and then decanted and tasted again and again over the course of about 2 hours. Really rich, love the fruit which is present but not bomb-y, nice smooth finish, with the high alcohol not really obtrusive–well covered. Very drinkable now, but could also probably benefit from at least 2 years in the cellar. And, incidentally, great bottle/label design. A good price at $15.99, but wouldn’t go much higher.

• Gary,
A question about the cantenac and yesterday’s Sauvignon Blanc… Why do they smell the way they do?
Is the leather boot/feces/mousy smell terroir or yeast? What causes the tire/fuel smell on the sauvignon blanc? I have smelled a fuel smell on a sauvignon blanc before, but tried to convince myself it was on the glass, because I never heard it mentioned before.

QOTD: What am I drinking tonight? – Nothing, I’m still drying out from the fabulous wine tasting last saturday at Chambers Street Wines in the City.

We are changing the wine world!!
We started with Raventos i Blanc Cava poured over with fresh pureed strawberries and Grand Marnier. Yes we had this with of all things slow cooked baby back ribs!

As of right now we are enjoying Altos De Luzon Jumilla 2004.
Home goods in Woodbridge, NJ is were we purchased it.The glass very close to your glass I`ll see if I can get the picture to post! my DH is drinking out off the glass!
A little hint for heavy red wine drinkers like myself mix a bit of baking soda and peroxide to make a paste; brush with it and you will have a white smile. It`s a little gross but ohhh so worth it.
As for the fruit in liquid you were trying to come up with is
compote is the word you were looking for. You know dried fruit cooked in sugar syrup. It is also often used as a drink, in which case only the liquid is drunk and is usually less sweet.
Hey gary what about : Intellivision or are you too young?
Oh this one counts as 2 lurkers! Wait I`m not a lurkers but my DH is so I`m writing for him as well.
