Are you still reading comments, GaryVee? I discovered these videos and decided to watch from EP 1! Thanks for the education.
New to wines, so I haven’t yet tried a Barolo.
Read today that cork’d has croaked. LOL! Too bad, but created an account with cellar tracker.

Great episode I as well have not yet sprung for the Barolo but will be soon. Have a great trip to greece and San Fran. Thanks for pre-recording.Qotd Winter time calls for Chicken parm. or Sausage and peppers over penne. But in the summer it’s all about Fresh Basil and Roma Tomatoes a little olive oil maybe a little fresh mozzerela or parm.tossed with spaghetti…and I got to go with a chianti

QOTD: BBQ-ed spicy italian sausage paired with a good Barbera.

Off to a South African tasting…Cheers!

I can’t wait to try some Barolo in Italy next month. Now I know what to look for, thanks Gary!

Nice to see some Italian wine in the house! I’ve tried a few barolos and always find them to be over oaked and too light and not very complex. I’ve even tried a few highly rated ones. Maybe I just got some bad choices. It really sucks to drop $50_$100 dollars on a bottle and hate it, especially on my budget. Enjoy your trip!

this episode makes me happy that i have a barolo waiting for me in my wine cellar. not sure i have quite the same level of barolo, but i definately think it’s worth a shot. enjoy san fran, and can’t wait till you get back stud!

qotd: this is an absolutely impossible question to answer. some days it’s just a perfectly prepared pasta dish like all’alamatriciana, some days it’s a rabbit lasagna, some days it’s osso bucco, some days it’s a salad of tomato and basil and mozzarella, some days it’s good old pizza done just right.

i can’t choose the wine either. is there really a perfect match? is a barbera d’asti really going to be that much better than a chianti classico reserva? probably not.

the perfect dish is the one i’m eating, and the perfect wine is the one that just seems right at the time.

Awesome episode. Best thing about good Italian wines is how well they pair with regional dishes. My fav is beef and sausage lasagna paired with Tuscan red. Sangiovese and tomato sauce is a match made in heaven!

Great show! Never had a Barolo. The price tags are just to high for my wallet.
QOTD: Does pizza count? I can eat pizza anytime, especially gourmet…quality toppings light on the cheese. I’ve been enjoying the rose’ with my pizza lately.

    Barolos are awesome!!!!!

QOTD: Homemade sauce and pasta, with homemade meatballs and spicy Italian sausage, some bread with olive oil to dip in. Pair with either Chianti Classico Riserva (Just had this meal a week or two ago with a bunch of wine, and included a 88’CCR) or Barolo.

  • Ed Cathcart

Barolo prices are daunting but your review and others I have been reading make them a must try.

thx for the barolo’s.. i picked up a bttl of the Massolino can’t wait to try it now.

QOTD – Italian meal – Risotto Milanese, superb (especially if preceded by a good Capresi, with Mozarella di Bufala). Italian wine to go with it, not sure if I’ve found the best yet, a good, quality Pinot Grigio maybe, but prefer an Alsace Pinot Gris.

Nice episode. I’m a HUGE fan of Piedmont.

(back-story) I was Orlando for business and stayed at a Marriott World with a high end Italian restaurant. Their speciality was Osco buco (braised veal shank). Recommend pairing was barolo. Ranks in my top 5 all-time food/wine experiences. It was the only good thing about Orlando (intentional smack down to Disney).

I make Osco buco and pair it with Barolo about once a year. Heaven baby!

  • Gary,

Great episode. I love barolo. In answer to the question of the day: there is too much Italian food to choose a favorite, but since Barolo is aged chestnut rather than in oak barrels, I’ll go with chestnut polenta, which is how they made polenta before corn was introduced to Italy. Very sweet, goes well with a spicy sausage topping. Good with an Amarone, but I bet a barolo would do nicely as well. Here’s a link to my recipe: http://bendaniel.org/?p=45

QOTD: favourite in our house has to be homemade spaghetti and meatballs or if im feeling lazy just dumping some pesto, cubed chedder and tomato slices onto a saucepan full of penne pasta….comfort food ..yum!

As far as wine goes we are still experimenting.
    Currently checking out some chablis.
    Any other recommendations??

    Enjoy your hols!

  • mbannon

Barolo, nice!! Haven’t had one in ages, think I might have to rectify that soon.

QOD – Just good ol’ fashion spaghetti with spicy meatballs. Yuh uh uhm.

  • Brian

You officially rock for taping 12 episodes in one day!!! I think itâ??s time I try a Barolo, they sound quite tasty.
QOTD: My favorite Italian dish is defiantly chicken parmigiana. With it, I usually have Merlot or Cab, though it all depends what I have available at the time.

  • redneck in w/hollywood

GV, thanks for another great show. We should all learn from your “wearin’ of the green” in raider nation. I probably won’t but I hope others do…Just tried the NZ Newhaven 2006 and it was “fully loaded”. Stacked up well against our local fave Brander 2006 SB county which was lighter in style and aroma but still tasty. Great tear up the vineyards letter. Never had a Barolo but maybe someday.

My favorite Italian food:Wild rabbit lasagne w/side of squid tartar.
    Enjoy San Fran and Greece!

UPdate: Found the Massolino Barolo Margheria in a shop in my own city! It’s the 2001, but according to a vintage chart I found on some dodgy website (something by a guy called Robert Parker – who is that?), it should be even better than 2000. I’ll be buying a few bottles when I get back from my trip to Sicily next week (44 EUR a bottle – ouch)…
