Are you still reading comments, GaryVee? I discovered these videos and decided to watch from EP 1! Thanks for the education.
New to wines, so I haven’t yet tried a Barolo.
Read today that cork’d has croaked. LOL! Too bad, but created an account with cellar tracker.

    QOTD:

Eating out at a restaurant I’d have to go with Osso Bucco and either a Barolo and/or a Chianti Classico Riserva.

Eating at home I’d have to go with spaghetti, fresh homemade sauce, homemade meatballs and a Chianti Classico. As far as QPR’s go I really enjoy the way Villa Antinori’s Toscana Red Wine (formeryl Chianti Classico Riserva before they bucked the POD classification)goes with food. I also really like a good Papardelle Bolognese, Chicken Marsala, Chicken Saltimbocca, Mushroom Risotto, Lasagne, Roast Garlic Crab, Braised Ribs, Shrimp Scampi – you know I just love good food, wine and family sitting around the table. In fact I’d go so far to say that it’s not what’s served, but is who is around the table that really matters. Cliche? Well yes, let’s not fool ourselves, everyone appreciates the finer things in life.

  • Gary — you’re absolutely awesome — you nailed all three of those barolos – I mean right on the money — Oh, I haven’t tasted them — but I guess I’m going to have to now — Good Show!

Great episode – just ordered my first bottle of barolo ever last week from wine library (most expensive wine I ever bought too). Excited to try it but probably cellar for a while first. QOTD: Pumpkin ravioli with chianti classico. I’m sure there’s a better pairing out there, but haven’t found it yet. Maybe Barolo…

QOTD: rabbit and sausage with mushrooms served over polenta, with a gewurtz from elena walch reminds me of sundays in newburg.

Gary, you’re the most INCREDIBLE guy in the world! Thank you for showing how much you care by taping all those episodes…

QOTD: Osso Bucco alla Milanese is just so so good… Pair it with a nice chianti!

  • Great show, and one of my favorite regions in the world. I just don’t have the wallet to explore as much as I’d like (e.g. I haven’t had a Gaja Barolo or Barbaresco). I’ve been lucky enough to try a great many, and they seem to me to be some of the most complex and intriguing wines on the planet.

Favorite meal: Spaghetti alla Puttanesca paired with an oaked Nero d’Avola. Definitely not my favorite Italian wine, but it’s nice, and it pairs well with the olives, capers, and anchovies in the Puttanesca.

  • HEY GV
WHOA, so psyched you did a Barolo episode. I don’t know if you remember but Megan and I are going to Piemonte at the end of June for a few days so I am going to have to seek out these producers. Can you recommend any other good wineries to visit while we are there. (don’t say Gaja cuz I can’t afford it)haha
Not necessarily heavy hitters but wineries with “charm”. 🙂

QOTD: My wife makes a killer stuffed eggplant and for that we don’t have a specific wine to pair with it, probably most times a zin. Second is mushroom Risotto (home made or restaurant), which we usually pair a Old World style wine, something nice and earthy to really accentuate the SHROOMS!!

Have fun in San Fran, and in GREECE!!

If you were really MANLY you would tape all the episodes, taste the wines, and NOT spit. Now THAT’S Entertainment!

I am by no means a “lurker” but I probably haven’t posted in the comments section since the forum was created so I figured I would finally post back over here to help you “enjoy your weekend”. :o)

Big Barolo fan. Thanks for this episode GV. I have a bunch of 2000 barolo that I can’t wait to start drinking.

QOTD: Veal cutlets served with a rustic homemade mushroom and tomato ragu with some rosemary and sage paired with a nice barolo of course. :o) Awesome combo.

  • Robin

QOTD: My favorite Italian meal is eggplant parmigiana. I always get it if my companions will let me (there’s this strange Italian restaurant in town that only lets you choose one thing; or I could choose my own thing if I wanted to have 4 portions of it). I would like to have it with tastings from 6 randomly chosen Super Tuscans. I can never remember the names of the individual Super Tuscans, but I’ve always liked them. My husband and I had a nice one at Dolores del Rio in San Antonio, and we finished the entire bottle which is very rare for us.

safe trip to greece….you’ll probably find lots of great olives and tomatoes, and a lot of crappy wine…

QOTD: Cotoletta alla Milanese (Breaded Veal) with Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

Nice episode gary, always been very curious about Barolo 2000 vintage.

Great episode for me! Barolo is on my “wine wish list”. I am planning on sucking it up and spending the money pretty soon. Seeing the show makes me feel like I will be spending the money on the right bottle!
