Are you still reading comments, GaryVee? I discovered these videos and decided to watch from EP 1! Thanks for the education.
New to wines, so I haven’t yet tried a Barolo.
Read today that cork’d has croaked. LOL! Too bad, but created an account with cellar tracker.

QOTD: Calamari steak, breaded and with lemon and capers. Any fresh, zesty white wine goes well with it, I can’t think of any in particular right now.

Gary, Back in the 70’s I would buy Barolo in half-bottles already aged and the wines would be a walk through a damp fall forest on a hunt for truffles.
QOTD: great pizza+great Chianti. Thanks for taping 11. Watch you every day when I get home.

Barolos scare me. They are expensive, cannot be drunk young, and are often a disappointment.
    QOTD, Osso Bucco.

Great stuff about the Margheria!! Massolino is actually one of my favorite Piedmont producers and I just bought a bottle of their Barolo, albeit from 2001. Can’t wait to crack it open and see what’s inside.

I had my first Barolo a few weeks ago, the 01 Prunotto and absolutely loved it (glad I have another bottle!), I definitely want to seek more out – when QPR allows! Gary/Ian what are the Barolo secrets!

quotd…depends on the meal! lunch, have to go with baked ziti, maybe with a zin. dinner, shrimp parm & pasta, with a bordeaux…breakfast? cold pizza & coffee!

Lurker (but I guess I’m officially out of lurker status now) here offering my first 2 cents! Great show and thanks for so much taping while away.

QOTD: How about grilled salmon with vermicelli cooked in garlic and olive oil and then pair it with a pino grigio for some zest (like a lemon)

    Corkd: discordja

QOTD: Mom’s lasagna. As for pairing, that’s why I’m here. I usually just drink whatever I have, which usually is pretty limited.

Gary – did you read my comment?

I want FREE STUFF, preferably liquid gold (ie: tha thundah)…

Serious note…I love lasagna with a Pio Cesare Barbaresco. Delish.

  • Matt Czinger

How long you in the SF area, GV? If you’re gonna be here a while, you should put together a small li’l dinner/ wine party. I can bring some o’ the good stuffs 🙂

  • Ok Gary, you finally got me to come out of the shadows where I was lurking. Brilliant episode: Barolo is fantastic. I think you’re a bit unfair on grad students though (me being one of them)!

QOTD: Diavola pizza and a glass of Barbaresco.

GV – when are we going to see a “mountain” episode where you review Dunn Howell Mtn, Pahlmeyer, etc…

QOTD: Lasagne with a good San Giovese
Really italian red wines go perfect with pasta

Gary your energy is awesome, i’m not a big fan of wines but can’t miss your episodes

GV you called me out – haven’t posted on here in a long time. Glad to see some debate on the over-hyped 2000 vintage. Wine Spectator/Speculator went a little crazy on that. I think in 10 years 2001 might be the dream vintage in Barolo and Barberesco.

You want something good with a young barolo? Try a cheap boxed lasagna – lots of crappy flash pasturized cheeze, but it does wonders for those monstrous tannins.

  • Alos Diallo

It is Lasagna I usually have it with Chianti I love that Villa Cafagio with it.

Love seafood pasta with spicy red sauce! Will have to seek out a Barolo next time to drink with it.

Good episode. Piedmont is the center of my cellar. Can be expensive but believe it or not even in the $100+ zone, given where Burgundy and Bordeaux are going these days (check out the ’05 prices), it produces some of the best top tier QPRs you can find. Plus they last forever. Plus the food friendliness is off the charts. plus plus plus…

QOTD: how about tagliatelle with a little white truffle, maybe paired with grandma so-and-so’s rabbit dish of some kind and add a Cannubi-based barolo

I don’t have it nearly enough because I don’t eat out that often and I’m a recovering “boys husky” department shopper so I watch what I eat but hands down my favorite Italian dish is Raviolini di Funghi, Salsa e Foie Gras e Tartufo (mini raviolis stuffed with Foie Gras and truffles). Not only is it absolutely delicious but I had it for the first time right after my wife agreed to marry me. As for what I paired it with; I can’t really remember. I ordered a three glass flight and all that I remember of them was that two were very good but the third was a vile Valpolicella that put me off Italian wines altogether for a while. I know; unfair but I’m coming back around.

I just discovered you and have been enjoying your shows. Italian wines seem complicated to me- so many wine regions and grape varieties. I have tried several Barolos (much more modestly priced) and thought they too were great. Thanks for all you do.

New Vayniac here Gary…..love the episodes. Been watching for about 10 days and I’m leaving my first comment.

Great reviews of the barolos….looking forward to hunting down the Massolino. I’d order some from ya, but the Texas heat is here to stay and come Sept, no more wine deliveries at Casa de CooGAR. F’n government!!

QOTD – I love a good manicotti…..toss in some garlic bread and a nice chianti and I’m a happy fat guy!

QOTD: Fresh vine tomatoes with fresh buffalo mozzarella with fresh basil leaves. FRESH FRESH AND FRESH! A splash of Extra Virgin and dribble of fine old balsamic and I could eat it every day. The wine, Chianti.

Great episode on Piedmonte. Keep bringing the unique stuff!!! I got my wristband!
